Misfits Gaming (MSF) is an esports team founded in 2016 by Ben Spoont. Misfits Gaming was created after the ban of their original parent organization, Renegades, from the League of Legends competitive scene, which detained an American squad and a European squad called Renegades Banditos. While their American team's spot was quickly sold to Team Envy, Renegades Banditos rebranded as a brand new team, picking up the original name of their former parent organization: Misfits, before eventually rebranding as Misfits Gaming. In a few years, they became a major western esports organization. Misfits Gaming detains also two separate team brands, The Florida Mayhem and The Florida Mutineers, playing in the Overwatch League and Call of Duty League respectively. They also previously owned a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and an Apex Legends team.

Misfits Gaming ventured into the Smash a few months after its creation by picking Melee player La Luna on December 29th, 2016.[1] A few weeks later, they added Larry Lurr to their roster, on January 13th, 2017.[2] Almost two years later, on October 31st, 2018, both players announced their departure from Misfits Gaming, thanked by their now former CEO Ben Spoont.[3][4] Their departure also meant Misfits Gaming closed its Smash division.
