Deletion[edit]

The current setup I was working with was that stage element characters have to do something other than appear silently in the background to warrant having a page of their own. This includes things like 5-Volt (damaging hazard), K.K. Slider (affects the music), or Peppy Hare (voice acted). Unless we want to significantly increase the number of pages we have on very minor appearances of characters (which I'd oppose), this page is outside the current setup. The only saving grace for the Balance Board that gives it a chance of surviving is that it's also part of the WFT's entry animation, but I don't think that's enough to save it from disambig status. 1) at least give the conversation a proper topic title rather than just having it floating in nothing

2) well then if that's the case then this page can stay up until that project of yours is done, and then we can move the information there.

I mean really, there are plenty of background characters who have their own pages, I see no reason why He cant as well. I mean he appears with the Wii Fit trainer in both versions of the game, via their intro, is featured as a background element in the wii fit stage, and has his own trophy. But again, with this project of yours, we can simply keep his info here until your new project is complete, and we can move his info there.

I think you misunderstood me. The current plan is for pages like this not to exist, like at all. Otherwise we'd be signing up for an absurd number of additional pages that we don't need: every background Pokemon, every background Animal Crossing NPC, etc. This page existing would set a bad precedent that I'd rather not. If you want to argue for this page's viability, understand that's the concern you're pushing up against. Miles (talk) 01:41, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
Well then I'm going to have to say i'm against your idea then. One thing I find rather odd is when Wiki's purposely withhold information on on anything, be it characters, items, or background elements, simply because they find it easier. The whole point of a Wiki is to provide as much information on the wikis subject as they can. If you wanna withhold information, regardless of how small it is, simply because its easy for you, then why are you even here?

The main reason I want the Balance Board to have his own page is because, unlike most games featured in smash bros, we don't have a Wii Fit wiki to link too for others to read this info on. Most franchises included in Smash Bros. are often linked to the wiki's of the other games that are included in it. So if people want to read up on Pokemon, or animal Crossing NPC's, they can go to the Animal Crossing Wiki and Bulbapedia to do that. For games like Wii Fit, the SSB Wiki is the only place to go to for info regarding it.
Ixbran (talk) 01:54, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
We have to draw the line somewhere. Ultimately, we need a set of criteria for what warrants a page and what doesn't. That's the issue with saying something like "The whole point of a Wiki is to provide as much information on the wikis subject as they can. If you wanna withhold information, regardless of how small it is, simply because its easy for you, then why are you even here?". You're assuming we are going to blanket cover anything and everything that appears in Smash in heavy detail even if its appearance is extraordinarily minor? I don't think that's really within our scope. By your logic, we'd need a full page for every single sticker. Do you see how outrageous this is?

As for the point about the lack of an interwiki option, that doesn't necessarily mean we have to do it. There's a limit to what is in our coverage, and the absence of a Wii Fit wiki isn't explicitly our problem. Miles (talk) 02:04, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
Its not there's no inter wiki option, its there there is no wiki to link too. I google searched and all I found was Wii Fit on Wikipedia, and an under developed wii fit wiki that has very little, to zero information on it.

"the absence of a Wii Fit wiki isn't explicitly our problem"

I mean really how hard is it to say "since this character doesnt appear anywhere else online, despite appearing in this game, I'm gonna go ahead and include it here.". Exactly how is it a problem to provide information that otherwise wont exist anywhere else? Again, that just comes off as lazy to me.
Ixbran (talk) 02:09, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
We are not going to just enter the business of covering anything and everything that appears in Smash without another wiki for it. It's not a question of laziness, that's just not what this wiki covers. Miles (talk) 02:16, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
"that's just not what this wiki covers"
So information regarding a characters specific appearance in Smash Bros. is not the job of the Smash Bros wiki? Then what is? Because in all honesty, it feels like you just dont want this page on the wiki personally, so your asserting your status as admin to get rid of it

"So what if this info wont appear anywhere else. "I" don't want this info here, so that's why "we" should just go ahead and not have it."
This is what you come off as when you get like this. You know I have issues when people in positions of power take advantage of said positions.

I dunno, maybe I'm taking this too personally and need to step back, because really this should not be upsetting me as much as it is. I'm finding it very difficult keeping this conversation civil with you. I feel like if I deal with this any longer I'm going to result to using foul language. And I don't want to do that.
Ixbran (talk) 02:37, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
Get a glass of water and relax. This is really not worth getting upset over. Like at all. Miles (talk) 02:46, 17 July 2015 (EDT)

(Indent Reset) The way I see this, it's more so about consistency. Even if there's no information on it elsewhere, the unfortunate fact of the matter is it's technically out of our scope. If we were to include this, we would need to include loads of extraneous pages, or it would seem odd. As you correctly pointed out, Wiki's are about having as much information as possible to be presented. However, unfortunately, this is just... not within our remit, so to speak. *Sarcasm Mode On* Loathe as I am to agree with Miles, he's right in this case. *Sarcasm Mode Off* But, seriously, How is he being arrogant? Anyway, enough from me for now. *Hums "Bright Side Of Life" to himself* ScoreCounter 03:18, 17 July 2015 (EDT)

I guess its me just taking it too personally. I was feeling very proud for having made the page, and thought people would appreciate its creation. But instead, it gets a deletion tag and I'm suddenly feeling like my contributions aren't appreciated, and it both upsets and angers me. I really need to learn not to let this sort of thing effect me personally, seeing as this is a wiki, and ANYONE can edit it. I would like to see it stay, but if it gets taken down due to majority vote, then I will respect that decision.
Ixbran (talk) 04:00, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
Exclamation mark appears above head* Oh! Now I understand. It's not that we don't appreciate it - given, it's a good page. It's just, because it's not in the remit of this wiki, keeping it would result in expanding said remit, which is too much work for to little benefit, and it strays from our mission statement. You know... whilst it's still up, there's nothing stopping you from copying the source markup. Yaknow - just in case you need it. And since no-one else seems to have said it - thanks. You're doing a good job. "Sometimes, the most wisdom comes from taking a step back and seeing the greater picture." ScoreCounter 04:31, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
Thanks, its nice to know that, despite not being needed, its appreciated to some extent.
Ixbran (talk) 05:29, 17 July 2015 (EDT)

I oppose deletion. I actually think this is an okay page to have, and the balance board serves as 1) a background character, 2) a platform that changes the layout of the stage, 3) part of Wii Fit Trainer's entrance animation, and 4) a trophy. I think this warrants enough for a page. In comparison, the background animals on Animal Crossing or Pokemon on the Stadiums only appear on one (maybe two) stages and have absolutely no effect whatsoever on the game, and might have a trophy. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 16:56, 17 July 2015 (EDT)

yay, thats 2 for keeping the page ♥
Ixbran (talk) 16:59, 17 July 2015 (EDT)

I support deletion. It hardly does anything as a stage character, and aside from its other appearances, it doesn't do enough to warrant a page. Berrenta (talk) 17:05, 17 July 2015 (EDT)

Neutral. I don't believe that entrance animation elements deserve pages, but since balance boards serve as platforms, I'm not sure whether or not this page should be deleted. Nyargleblargle (Talk) 17:12, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
For completeness's sake, the Balance Board has four roles: trophy, part of an entrance animation, background character and platform (stage element). So it's at the very least more relevant than most Animal Crossing villagers. Neutral, anyway. --Menshay (talk) 17:03, 18 July 2015 (EDT)

I oppose deletion for the same reasons as the unsigned comment by (maybe) Nutta. Aykrivwassup (talk) 11:53, 3 August 2015 (EDT)

I support deletion for aforementioned reasons Berrenta and Miles stated. Allowing this gets a foot in the door for more unnecessary pages such as this. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 16:06, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

I oppose deletion, for a reason Ixbran brought up. We are a wiki, after all, and, as a Super Smash Bros. wiki, we should try to cover everything in Smash Bros. with as much detail as possible. The Balance Board appears in Smash, so we should try to cover it. LittleMacmain97, the World Circuit is mine! (Talk) 16:55, 1 September 2015 (EDT)

I echo Miles once again, this would get the foot in the door/open the floodgates/set the precedent for things we don't need and want. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 17:42, 10 September 2015 (EDT)

You've already made your vote, you can't go in and say you oppose it twice and have both statements count for individual votes.
Ixbran (talk) 06:23, 30 September 2015 (EDT)
Of course not, silly. Reaffirming my stance does not mean I "oppose it twice." Smashedpotatoes (talk) 12:31, 30 September 2015 (EDT)

I oppose deletion, the Wii Balance Board makes a whole host of different appearances that are all detailed individually here, and I even learned something I never knew by this article existing (I had no idea the board classified as male). Also, if it helps, it's currently:

  • 4 for keeping it (My self, Nutta Butta, Aykrivwassup, and LittleMacmain97)
  • 3 for deletion (Miles, Berrenta, and Smashedpotatoes)
  • 2 neutral parties (Nyargleblargle and Menshay).
