Team Rocket Gen 3

Since there's an edit war going on about if the FireRed/LeafGreen artwork of the Team Rocket Grunts should be added, might as well make this.

Oppose: The differences between the Rocket Grunt outfits in FireRed/LeafGreen and the Let's Go! games is honestly way to small to warrant adding their FireRed/LeafGreen artwork. SuperSmashTurtles (talk) 19:47, September 20, 2019 (EDT)

Support Some characters, assist and fighter, don’t use newer art as it differs to what it’s based on. Drastic or minor. Take Samus for example. Her suit is different in the various Metroid games, but we use the ones it’s “based” on. Same goes for Zelda characters. The only Gen 7 reference is the Miis used in the presentation. The hair isn’t part of the costume, it’s part of the Mii. The Rocket Grunts have grey on their costume which matches the art of the Gen 3 remakes. They are white in the Gen 7 remakes. That’s difference enough. Just like Samus’ suit, which have either minor or drastic differences. Mario has the art with Cappy because Cappy is a taunt. Why not just have both Gen 3 and Gen 7 because of the presentation? If not, isn’t the game art suppose to match their Smash appearances? 172.58.173.40 20:28, September 20, 2019 (EDT)

I oppose as well. Like SST said, the difference is way too small for the change anyways. Plus, it's pretty clear that the developers were going the LGPE route in the trailer, with Pikachu and Eevee appearing (as well as Mewtwo, but that's just a reference to the Mewtwo-Rocket theory) and the designs of the grunts looking similar to the LGPE iterations.

To IP, we generally stick to those rules when there are major differences in design, eg. if something isn't represented in a piece of artwork, we'll use the one that's referenced instead. Oppose, because they're not relevant to Smash regardless of the design difference. It'd be like uploading art of Link from Skyward Sword, or Red from Pokémon Masters; it hasn't appeared in Smash, so it's unnecessary. Still, if we have set a rule, we should adhere to it as much as we can; it won't really be consistent having the most accurate origin image for the majority of the characters on the wiki except the Mii Costumes. Also, if we treat costumes like characters, then I don't see how they're not relevant. I'm probably playing more of a (not sure if it's the right connotation) devil's advocate at this point, but it's still something I believe should be considered. Skyward Sword Link and Pokémon Masters Red don’t appear in Smash, and neither does Let’s Go Rocket Grunts. “Mii Designs” have nothing to do with the costumes themselves. The “Miis” being of Let’s Go has no baring on the fact the costumes are based on FireRed and LeafGreen, just like Pokémon Trainer. Miis themselves do not determine what the costumes are based on. The Miis used in the presentation are referencing Let’s Go, but the hair isn’t included in the costume. If they were, then it would have been Let’s Go. The art is different, and different enough for it to be changed so that it matches what is used in Smash. Which, according to CookiesCream, is a set rule. Ok, maybe "set" isn't the best way to describe it. What I meant is that we should just stay consistent with what we've been doing so far for other characters, and that's use the image that best match a character's appearance in Smash. (reset indent; apologies for bumping this) The Mii designs are, as far as the wiki's concerned, the official designs for these Mii costumes, due to being used in the various promotional videos and images. This is why we use them on the costume pages, like this one. In theory, the origin images should match these promotional designs as closely as possible. In practice, this is the first time the distinction has come up, because the only other Mii costume based on a generic NPC class rather than a distinct character is Martial Artist. I would say matching the design of the Miis is a higher priority in this case, but if nothing else we can add an image of the FR/LG Rocket designs in the Origin section. ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 15:40, September 24, 2019 (EDT)

Again, I pointed this out to you, we only include additional subject images in the image box if there's a significant design difference (Link, Marth) or if it's a unique character (Wedding Mario, Pikachu Libre). If it's an earlier version of the design that has influence on the current design, it goes in the Origin section. (See Mario, Diddy Kong, King K.
