FYI, for anyone who's wondering, I've specifically avoided referencing Night Slash as a potential name for this move until we get confirmation. This is due to the fact that Night Slash's Japanese name doesn't necessarily imply anything to do with nighttime. It's definitely a possibility, but it's significantly more ambiguous than the Mat Block reference, which actually does use a tatami like that move's Japanese name implies. Night Slash Reference[edit]

I don't think that a reference to Night Slash is truly speculation. The way the move works is identical to Night Slash in the anime (the user jumps at its opponent and attacks with multiple slashes), with the moon being a possible reference to the English name. To say it is definitely Night Slash is speculation- however, all I did here is point out the similarities between the two. There is no proof that it's a reference to Mat Block, either (although it is more likely, seeing as it's Greninja signature move and is the only move which functions in that way, whereas there are several slashing attacks), so if this counts as speculation, I believe that should as well. ...a new NuttaNutta's Mallo sig.pngis approaching... 21:38, 9 September 2014 (EDT)

It should still be avoided. The Japanese name for Night Slash refers to a samurai move; nothing to do with nighttime. So please do not add it back. Berrenta (talk) 21:46, 9 September 2014 (EDT)

Official English Name Confirmed![edit]

I got my hands on a SSB4 3DS Guidebook at EGX 2014 which lists all the moves of the starting roster, including the Final Smashes. Thus, I'll be editing the articles to match their english name. Is there a way for me to also rename the entire article or does an admin have to do it? :) MM720 (talk) 17:55, 30 September 2014 (EDT)

Ah. I didn't see that. Never mind then :) MM720 (talk) 17:55, 30 September 2014 (EDT)

"Mysterious Ninja" translation[edit]

I'm not sure where this translation came from, but it fails to factor in the "", so I'm pretty sure it isn't accurate.
I can see a couple possible translations, and I was wondering which one the wiki thinks we should use. The lack of kanji means obtaining an absolute translation is essentially impossible without input from the original dev team.
(For those who aren't familiar with Japanese, it uses both a phonetic writing system called kana and a pictographic writing system called kanji, both of which can be used to write the same things. The official name of this move is written entirely in kana (probably a reference to the tradition in Pokémon games of using entirely kana for the naming of moves), which can make determining the meaning difficult due to the large number of words sharing the same pronunciation.)

  • 1: Secret Ninja Technique (忍びの秘奥技) - This is essentially the same as the official English translation. However, this would normally be written as しのびのひおうざわ, as using for the final kanji is somewhat irregular (although still correct).
  • 2: Ninja Lily (忍びの桧扇) - For this one, ひおうぎ is one word instead of two. The type of lily in question is a Blackberry Lily, which fans out in a way that somewhat resembles the crossing slashes Greninja makes after he flings his foe skywards. The same kanji also refers to a type of folding fan, although I don't think that is the meaning here.

Also, if anyone happens to know of another possibility, let me know. FirstaLasto 19:01, 10 November 2014 (EST)

Since nobody is commenting on this, I'm going to go ahead and pick one to use. If you think it should be the other one, let me know here. FirstaLasto 20:17, 18 November 2014 (EST)
Secret Ninja Technique sounds more plausible, as the connection to a lily is kind of a stretch. Return of Air Conditioner Image for Accoolx's signature. the (Not Very) Omniscient 20:22, 18 November 2014 (EST)

Final Smash[edit]

Is it worth noting that it seems like Secret Ninja Attack seems to use both Mat Block AND Night Slash? The initial attack is very strikingly similar to Night Slash. Bulbaboy (talk) 23:27, 17 November 2014 (EST)

As has been stated before: there's no clear connection to Night Slash as it's known in Japanese (tsujigiri), so we shouldn't state any connection. Miles (talk) 23:46, 17 November 2014 (EST)

Source for being in Ultimate?[edit]

I’ve seen a lot of people saying it’s just a resin of SNA with Ash-Greninja, and personally, that’s what I expected it to be ever since the Smash Blog mentioned it. But I have not seen a single source anywhere on the internet, and am hesitant to just believe without evidence. We’re a Wiki. We’re supposed to cite sources anyway. 72.133.91.93 07:21, 18 November 2018 (EST)Blueflame105
