Personally...

I feel a condensed article for metal and gold versions of characters would work the best. We could even add Tanooki ones too and things like that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RobbyB3ll4s (talkcontribs) 17:42, 2020 February 10

So...

A thought dawned on me. Due to the differences between versions, should we include the 3DS version's Metal Box characters as well, or would that be overkill? That thought crossed my mind. But the problem is there's no fast and easy way to do it, because Special Smash isn't an option in Smash 3DS. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 23:06, 11 January 2016 (EST)
Considering I supplied a temporary Cloud one from 3DS until a Wii U one is supplied, I can be the one to supply the images if it's decided to do it. Disaster Flare My signature image for the default signature. Duplicate of Lucina's life white stock head. (talk) 23:08, 11 January 2016 (EST)
Like seriously, I can spend an entire day working on that if they're needed. I don't mind one bit. Disaster Flare My signature image for the default signature. Duplicate of Lucina's life white stock head. (talk) 23:19, 11 January 2016 (EST)
I could add them if you don't mind. I have some time. --My signature's image :v The 70's called. They said BeepYou was here :v 23:24, 11 January 2016 (EST)
I think we should wait for more input first. I don't wanna start any big project without support. Disaster Flare My signature image for the default signature. Duplicate of Lucina's life white stock head. (talk) 23:25, 11 January 2016 (EST)
Awright then. But if you get the green light, you can still count on me. --My signature's image :v The 70's called. They said BeepYou was here :v 23:35, 11 January 2016 (EST)

Though getting a green light without Ryan due to his hiatus will be hard considering Nyargle is currently semi-active, Miles is usually occupied and OT and Mr. Glittershine are not active. --My signature's image :v The 70's called. They said BeepYou was here :v 23:40, 11 January 2016 (EST)

Wii U Mii Fighters

While the most recent ones show the "default" Mii Fighter designs, on the page itself it show the thumb for the older uploaded ones which depict different Miis. I don't have time right now but I think the way to solve this is to re-upload the correct pic and delete the old one? Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 13:39, 16 January 2016 (EST)

I had that issue initially, but it fixed after refreshing the page. Have you tried that? Disaster Flare My signature image for the default signature. Duplicate of Lucina's life white stock head. (talk) 13:39, 16 January 2016 (EST)
Yea hard refreshing fixes anything like that. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 13:40, 16 January 2016 (EST)
That works, but in principle I don't think that it shouldn't be a thing. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 13:42, 16 January 2016 (EST)
Trust me, neither do I. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 13:43, 16 January 2016 (EST)
Oh, you uploaded them, so it could be an easy fix. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 13:46, 16 January 2016 (EST)

(Reset indent) ...I might've read that first comment wrong, and now I'm confused. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 13:47, 16 January 2016 (EST)

I'm saying the "old" pictures (the ones NOT depicting the "correct" Miis) should be deleted. Idk how to do that though. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 13:50, 16 January 2016 (EST)
That might not be possible, considering Aidan uploaded over them. Disaster Flare My signature image for the default signature. Duplicate of Lucina's life white stock head. (talk) 13:51, 16 January 2016 (EST)
Yea they're not new files, they're just new images over old ones. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 13:52, 16 January 2016 (EST)
Tag them for deletion, re-upload them (copy them to your computer first if you don't already have them on your device), put them on the page. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 13:53, 16 January 2016 (EST)

(Reset indent) Why does it matter if I do that? AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 13:54, 16 January 2016 (EST)

In principle, having to hard refresh to see the correct image shouldn't be a thing? It's not difficult, but I don't have the time to do it right now, that's why I'm suggesting that someone should do that. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 13:56, 16 January 2016 (EST)
So you're asking me to do a multistep task to avoid having to simply press Command-R (or F5 if you're on PC)? ...Your logic is a bit flawed. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 13:57, 16 January 2016 (EST)
Caching is a thing that exists. Hard refreshing or using the purge command isn't hard. Miles (talk) 14:01, 16 January 2016 (EST)
Not really. It's not a matter of "It's not hard, you can just do this to correct this." Must we have a notice on the top of the page saying "To see the right image for the Mii Fighters on this page, please hard refresh?" It's a matter of making the page better, a matter of things not being the way they should be, but in response, improving it. It's very small, yes, but it's something that could be improved and I don't think one should have to refresh the page to see the right information, or in this case, the information we desire to present. Logic: Hypothetically, you go to a character page, like Greninja. You see its damage output on its page. Turns out you have to refresh the page to see the current damage output from the latest update. Shouldn't that be there from the start? Would you want that?
Anyways, I didn't know about purging so thanks for that Miles. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 14:04, 16 January 2016 (EST)
...I think you're missing the point. Most people who work on this wiki would know by going through the Recent Changes if an image gets updated; that said, if the image present on a page is not, then they refresh it. As for people without an account, they actually get the most recent version of the image right from the get go (if memory serves). AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 14:08, 16 January 2016 (EST)
I should have clarified earlier that I was logged out looking at the page, and that I didn't see the intended images right from the get-go. I did when I refreshed though. Idk I just think it'd be more "professional" if you could actually see what is intended to be on the page from the start. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 14:13, 16 January 2016 (EST)
As I said before, so do I. But that's just the way things are. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 14:14, 16 January 2016 (EST)
But it's fixable. I'll probably just do it myself tonight Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 14:15, 16 January 2016 (EST)

(Reset indent) I'd avoid that. After a few days, it usually fixes itself. Just leave it be. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 14:17, 16 January 2016 (EST)

Ah, and it was just uploaded yesterday lol. Wow I'm dumb sometimes lol Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 14:20, 16 January 2016 (EST)

Additional screenshots?

So I've been thinking, and I decided I wanted to put this to a vote because I'm rather torn: Should certain costumes have screenshots as well? I don't mean costumes with minor changes, I mean very clear differences. Here's some of the ones I mean:

  1. Cloud's Advent Children costume
  2. Wario's classic costume (Would apply to both Brawl and SSB4)
  3. Potentially the majority of Villager's costumes
  4. Bayonetta's "Witch With No Memories" outfit when she's released
  5. Hoodie Mac

Some optional (but unlikely to be used) ones are:

  1. Swimsuit Shulk
  2. Pikachu hats (Would apply to all games if so)

I'm okay with it if it's either supported or opposed, I just would like to see what everybody thinks before doing something like that. If supported enough, I can supply the 3DS screenshots almost immediately, but someone else would have to do the Wii U screenshots. Disaster Flare My signature image for the default signature. My official opinion is eh. This page is already sort of a fun bonus thing, more than anything. Miles (talk) 01:33, 28 January 2016 (EST)

I, on the other hand, support it. --My signature's image :v The 70's called. They said BeepYou was here :v (talk) 02:00, 28 January 2016 (EST)

Unless anybody has any objections, I'll be getting around to this today. I'll be skipping out on Swimsuit Shulk and the Pikachu hats though. Disaster Flare My signature image for the default signature. Duplicate of Lucina's life white stock head. (talk) 14:02, 30 January 2016 (EST)

Deletion

After having tagged Gold Fighter/Character gallery for deletion on the grounds that it was unnecessary, I had it pointed out to me that we also have this gallery of all the fighters in their metal form. As with the gold fighters gallery, I have tagged this page for deletion, and since this was the article created first I think this is where I should make the case for its deletion. Simply put, there is nothing of value, either informatively or of interest, about having a gallery with an image of every single fighter in their metal form. As is stated in SW:NOT "SmashWiki uploads a few sets of assets for use on our wiki (such as head icons, alt pallets, victory themes, etc), as well as oddities or interesting sprites and sound clips (such as unused content), but it is not to contain every asset in the game". Palette swaps are an example of a good exception to this policy, as they are unique to every fighter, they often contain references or easter eggs, and they are commonly used in competitive play, even being a part of many smashers' identities. As such, having a collection of all of them is both informative and interesting. Unlike palette swaps however, metal forms are entirely homogenous, in the sense that every character's model is affected in exactly the same way, simply replacing all textures with the metal texture. All that is necessary to provide information about the nature of the effect is perhaps one or two images from each game only, as once you have seen one metal fighter, you have essentially seen them all. There are also no other interesting or unique features of specific metal fighters other than metal Mario appearing in games outside the Smash Bros. series, and there is no tournament legal representation of metal fighters in competitive play, so this case cannot be made for this gallery being kept either. Finally, having a gallery such as this one puts us in a situation in which we are either being inconsistent with our treatment of statuses, or in which we should have to make a gallery for every status condition, including giant, frozen, flowered etc. in the name of consistency.

For the reasons outlined above, I believe that this gallery, along with the gold fighters gallery, should be deleted. Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 19:57, July 11, 2019 (EDT)

Bumping this. Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 03:47, July 16, 2019 (EDT)

Oppoing deletion for this page. Gold fighter gallery though I'm neutral. SupαToαd64 Image for my signiture icon. 20:11, November 11, 2019 (EST)
Support: Only a few images are really needed, like Mario and Mr. Game and Watch (the latter because the metal interestingly makes him appear 3D due to how the model is normally flattened). Those few images can be ported to the Metal Box page. Crazy456Rhino (talk) 13:46, December 4, 2019 (EST)
Delete this and the Gold gallery (possibly the false one too), then put the images in the galleries of each character's respective fighter pages. There is no real reason to compare each character to each other making this article a bit on the pointless side, but I don't see a need to delete all of these images. SerpentKing 12:22, December 3, 2019 (EST)
On second thought, changing to neutral leaning towards delete. The images shouldn't be deleted though, instead moved to the characters' pages. SupαToαd64 Image for my signiture icon. 18:42, December 4, 2019 (EST)
I'll echo supatoad64 and Serpent King's points that while the page should be deleted, we should move the character's images to their respective pages. While the gallery is generally unnecessary (would work better on the Metal Box and Gold Fighter pages, but even then it's just fluff that floods the page), the images can definitely be repurposed. --Plague von Karma (talk) 01:53, December 10, 2019 (EST)
I agree with SerpentKing, supatoad and Plague here. The images in this gallery can definitely be put to good use elsewhere. Even if SmashWiki isn't a resource repository, there are already plenty of screenshots in many fighter galleries that can be considered relatively "miscellaneous," so why not add pictures of actual in-game assets to them and de-clutter the wiki of useless galleries while we're at it? Voting to delete this gallery and move each of its images to their respective fighter's article. (and to possibly do the same for the Gold + False fighter galleries as well) Acgamer28 (talk) 14:52, January 20, 2020 (EST)

I don't see what place the images would have on the fighter pages rather than the page relating to the actual powerup. It's all or nothing for me. Aidan, the Festive Rurouni 18:53, December 4, 2019 (EST)

Support - We don't need a full-blown gallery for what is simply a texture effect. - Searingjet (talk) 19:37, December 14, 2019 (EST)

Delete Yeah I retract what I said above, there's not really a point in keeping these around. SerpentKing 13:26, February 20, 2020 (EST)

I oppose deleting this page, but if consensus agrees to delete it, I support putting the Metal, Gold, and False character pictures on each character's page. - Mega Mario Man (talk) 03:55, February 25, 2020 (EST)

Alright, this discussion's lasted for almost a year now, so I intend to resolve this soon. If anyone has any last input, I advise providing it today. Right now the fate of both the Metal Box and Gold Fighter galleries aren't looking good, but I'm willing to hear out any arguments against axing them before I resolve this.
