Pictures

If I were to take pictures of the stages in the mode that doesn't show any detail, just the basic makeup of the stage (via debug menu), would anyone agree to put them on the stages' respective page? It would show more importance than the normal pictures of the stages. I'm not asking for help in the project, I would gladdly finish up the rest of the descriptions for the pages before I added the pictures themselves, I just want to know if anyone else thinks this is a good idea. If you don't understand the kind of pictures I'm talking about, I'll do an example picture this afternoon. Oddeven2002 12:50, September 28, 2006 (GMT)

Well, nobody plays on the debug versions of the stages, so it would be confusing for casual players interested in learning about the stages on a more superficial level (and while we do want this to be a useful resource for competitive players, we still want SmashWiki to be accessible to everyone). I would consider using both a normal picture of the stage (perhaps zoomed out so everything can be seen), and a debug picture if you deem it necessary. --MaskedMarth 15:04, September 28, 2006 (GMT)

You do know that I mean the regular stages, just with a different view, right? Not the TEST stage or any of the other ones accessable only by the debug menu. I could provide with two pictures of the stages, though. That could be easily done. The debuged one practical, and the normal one flarish. Oddeven2002 21:33, September 28, 2006 (GMT)
Yeah, I understand, and I think it's a good idea. Go ahead :) --MaskedMarth 05:57, September 29, 2006 (GMT)

General non-NPOV in many stages articles

I'm talking about the "artistic design" sections in many of the articles. The way they're written, these sections are purely opinion. A while back I tried putting the "Fountain of Dreams" article in a more neutral way, but I feel that it's still overly biased material (how does one determine whether Smashers on a whole find Fountain atmospheric or beautiful?). I still think artistic design deserves to be mentioned, but it will require an overhaul to remove the opinion from the fact. So yeah.....I might do some of that myself, but I'm kind of uneasy changing large amounts of text. If any of you could help that would be super. --MaskedMarth 15:26, November 20, 2006 (GMT)

Generally the articles have had a pretty atrocious writing style (tense-shifting, use of 2nd person, lots of fundamental grammar mistakes), and I have been through a few of the stages so far (Princess Peach's Castle, Kongo Jungle, and Great Bay) to basically restructure the articles in a clean manner with the original ideas still present. However, I do have to question the use of the 'Artistic Design' element in the articles. It seems very superfluous and unnecessary to the purpose of this wiki. It seems like an in-depth discussion of the technical aspects of the stage would be much better than this. The section also lends itself to being horribly NPOV like you said. It basically amounts to 1) Take a structure from the map 2) put a lot of flowery adjectives on it... And almost any flowery adjective is NPOV.--Aperson 19:15, December 14, 2006 (GMT)

Action Replay

I don't know much about this tournament stuff, but using AR you can play those "forbidden" stages. No comments about those? – Smiddle / talk 22:22, December 1, 2006 (GMT)

Aah, the n00bness of mine

What does a neutral stage mean? I guess singles mean 1v1 and doubles mean 2v2, am I right? – Smiddle / talk 19:04, December 14, 2006 (GMT)

Isn't Flatzone suppose to be banned for both singles and doubles?

Isn't it? The Magnum Master 22:23, December 14, 2006 (GMT)

The official names for the Master Hand, Polygon, and Metal Mario stages in SSB

While taking a look at the Japanese site for SSB (the English one is now Dojo, covering SSBB), I found this list of stages. I noticed that it had names for the Master Hand, Polygon, and Metal Mario stages. Not knowing Japanese, I put the page into the Altavista babelfish translator. The Polygon stage came out as "f...," which obviously isn't correct (especially because the same name was also given to Saffron City). However, Master Hand's stage got the name "Terminus," and Metal Mario's stage got the name "Meta crystal." I was wondering if these might be the official names, and if someone who knows Japanese could better translate the page. By the way, here's the translator. Hm, it's been a while since this was posted, but I do have some input. Kirby's Rainbow Resort has a list of the music in SSB (scroll down and click "Super Smash Brothers (N64)"), and Metal Mario's stage is referred to as Meta Crystal there (although they could mean Metal Crystal, which makes more sense to me), so you might be on to something. Terminus is a pretty cool name for that stage, BTW. Teamrocketspy621 15:39, October 29, 2007 (EDT)
Okay, I have something new on this. I stuck it through the Google Translator, and got this: [1] I noticed one thing: That Metal Mario doesn't translate from the Japanese name as Meta Mario, but Meta Crystal does. This means that Metal and Meta are actually two different words, as recognized by the translating program. Also, Master Hand's Residence is referred to as Endpoint. Last I remember, Ending Point was one of it's accepted names. When you think about the other Engrish in the translation, Master Hand's Residence might very well be called Final Destination in Japan, as in Melee. Teamrocketspy621 15:46, October 29, 2007 (EDT)
Too bad, the update about Brawl's Final Destination confirmed that so-called Terminus IS a Final Destination.("It always seems to be one of this around, eh?") King M 09:20, 1 March 2008 (UTC)King M (talkcontribslogs) mARCH, 1ST 2008 10:"0 (gmt +01)

Hazard Category?

Since this question is related to all stages in general, I'll put it here.

Should we add a category for stage hazards, like the Ultimate Chimera, Banzai Bills or Polar Bears? It makes sense to me -- I think there are enough for their own category. Teamrocketspy621 13:57, November 3, 2007 (EDT)

Naming Conventions

I know you guys went through a lot of irritating headaches trying to figure out what to do about these stages, but I still don't understand why Mushroom:_Kingdom II is the correct name for that stage...and this concern applies for all the stages. Do we really need this colon-underscore-spacing disaster that really puts a knot in everything? How did this idea even start? And perhaps the biggest question of them all......what's wrong with Mushroom Kingdom (stage)? That solves the Mushroom Kingdom confusion pretty quick when you add some more modifiers like Mushroom Kingdom (SSB stage) and Mushroom Kingdom (SSBM stage) too...

Just a thought for those of you who are working with the stage articles. Brackets are your friend. --RJM Talk 21:35, January 14, 2008 (EST)
