Should I edit the page with a list of the leaks such as that website that leaked the Subspace emissary bosses and characters? User:KoRoBeNiKi

I think so. Maybe make a list out of it. User:Malefix

uh

Why do we need this? It could easily fit on Lucario's or Brawl's page. BNK [E|T|C] 22:22, August 19, 2010 (UTC)

Currently, yes, but if/when the next Smash Bros. game shows up there may be leaks about it, so I'd say having its own page is a reasonable idea. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png 22:24, August 19, 2010 (UTC)

So uh where are the examples?

The only "example" on the page is just another rumour, not a leak (the concept of a leak means it must be true). Where are the actual examples? Toomai Glittershine ??? The Orchestral 17:29, 25 June 2013 (EDT)

Agreed. I don't think "some guy in 2007 said Sora and Geno would be in Brawl" is particularly noteworthy. Also, the only "leaks" I ever remember seeing (that ended up being true) was a list of the playable characters a few weeks before the game was released in Japan. Maybe that should be added to this article? -BrothersNotBros (talk) 18:02, 14 August 2013 (EDT)
Yeah it should, we just need to find it. Toomai Glittershine ??? Da Bomb 18:52, 14 August 2013 (EDT)

There's also the video showing off the stickers that leaked Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Ness as being playable characters. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 18:57, 14 August 2013 (EDT)

Shouldn't this be added?

I know I'm new here, but has anyone here caught wind of this imgur album filled with screenshots from the ESRB reel? http://imgur.com/a/PzeCw --Trogdorbad (talk) 15:12, 25 August 2014 (EDT)

As per SW:NEWGAME, images of this nature require community consensus. At the moment, I'm neutral on the subject of these images. Miles (talk) 15:23, 25 August 2014 (EDT)
My vote is that they're legit. They're the exact kind of thing the ESRB would want to rate a game on (the most objectionable content), and the sheer volume of them makes it extremely implausible for all of them to be fake. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Steppin' 15:26, 25 August 2014 (EDT)
We're getting close enough to release that legitimate leaks are likely to start appearing, plus the amount of evidence here is comprehensive enough to call this the real deal. Whether or not that means we should document it officially is a different story. I've been of the opinion on Bulbapedia that Hoopa and Volcanion deserve acknowledgement despite the lack of official reveal; similarly, I believe that we should at least document what is clear in these leaks, but hold off on any debatable info until official media can clarify it. VinSymbol.pngVinLAURiA (talk) 16:05, 25 August 2014 (EDT)
I'm of the opinion that it should all be considered official. But, it's probably more official to use the things that are clear: Junior, Ganon, and Shulk. ...a new NuttaNutta's Mallo sig.pngis approaching... 16:09, 25 August 2014 (EDT)

Just as an update: the videos that correspond with this data have been removed by a copyright claim by Nintendo themselves, and there's word going around that the leaker has been fired and being sued. I say there's no reasonable doubt left that this is legit at this point. VinSymbol.pngVinLAURiA (talk) 20:44, 25 August 2014 (EDT)

It's still a rumor, although violating a NDA is a big deal. Wouldn't be surprised. That said, I agree that the videos' removal is strong additional evidence in favor of their legitimacy, as Nintendo wouldn't have any interest in removing a fake. Miles (talk) 20:50, 25 August 2014 (EDT)
And judging by the addition of the new pages, I'd say we've reached a consensus that this is legit? VinSymbol.pngVinLAURiA (talk) 20:52, 25 August 2014 (EDT)
We've only decided the videos are legitimate. The screenshots are a related but separate issue and should not be used as evidence at this time. Miles (talk) 21:16, 25 August 2014 (EDT)
Fair enough. Lock and load. VinSymbol.pngVinLAURiA (talk) 21:18, 25 August 2014 (EDT)

All-Star Mode

One of the leaked screenshots from two weeks ago had the menu for All-Star Mode shown in today's Pic of the Day, and it looks exactly like it. Should this be noted on the page, or should it be left out? Nintendocan (talk) 17:42, 2 September 2014 (EDT)

ESRB Leak - are the images official yet?

A number of the Pic of the Day(s?) have shown evidence for the leak, Shulk matches up with his artwork and appearance in the leak, and this video shows the exact same roster (albeit with only the confirmed characters). At this point, there isn't any evidence that it's false. Should we make Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, etc., or is there still a reason to wait? (Obviously, it's only one week until it's out, but still) ...a new NuttaNutta's Mallo sig.pngis approaching... 14:52, 6 September 2014 (EDT)

Let's just wait. Assuming it's all valid, we should only have a matter of days until we can source actual gameplay video of all available characters. Miles (talk) 15:07, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
Can I at the very least make references to it on their page now? (i.e. Dr. Mario was leaked as a playable character in the ESRB leak) ...a new NuttaNutta's Mallo sig.pngis approaching... 15:09, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
Personally, I'd advocate waiting. Miles (talk) 15:23, 6 September 2014 (EDT)

Split

I oppose a split. Here's why.

  1. The Gematsu "leaks" was around and believed by many for over a year; the ESRB leak was only around for about 3 weeks and was doubted by nearly everyone almost immediately (before proven true).
  2. The leaks page is not large enough for a split, only about 19,500 bytes, which is less than the 32,000 bytes recommended for a split.
  3. Even if we did split it, there would only be one other leak for the SSB4 category.
  4. Other well-known leaks don't have their own page, why should this one?

Release date leak

Earlier today, before the official announcement of the Wii U release date, I read a rumor (on several sites) that an Australian company had leaked the release date. Amazon leaks

Here's what Amazon has leaked about SSB4-Wii U under product description:

"Whether you’re creating stages on the GamePad, competing in challenges crafted by Master Hand and Crazy Hand, or outwitting your opponents in a brand new board game mode, there’s no doubt that the ultimate Smash Bros. game has arrived."

Is this reliable enough to confirm as an actual leak? Links: Amazon, Nintendo Everything. Unknown the Hedgehog 13:16, 17 October 2014 (EDT)

I would say no, since Amazon has provided incorrect information about games in the past (one that comes to mind is how an old description for Golden Sun II claimed that Felix was Isaac's long-lost brother). If the leak turns out to be true, however, I would support its inclusion on the page.

Anymore thoughts on the whole thing with the Amazon leaks? Unknown the Hedgehog 14:22, 19 October 2014 (EDT)

I'd put this in the category of "probably legit but we shouldn't put it anywhere but List of rumors until confirmed". Miles (talk) 17:29, 19 October 2014 (EDT)
Yeah, Miles has the best idea. Seems to be popular, but let's treat it in the same way as the ESRB leak. Qwerty (talk) 17:37, 19 October 2014 (EDT)

*ahem* Amazon leak. AidanzapunkSig.jpgAidan the Gamer 10:09, 25 November 2014 (EST)
What? I mean, Amazon is not strictly official as it's not affiliated to Nintendo, as far as I know, even though the blurb is obviously genuine. On the other hand I guess the Facebook page is mantained by insiders and thus it serves as an official source, unless I'm missing something. --Menshay (talk) 16:59, 26 November 2014 (EST)
It's a leak, even if it's leaked by Nintendo or even Sakurai himself. As long as it's true, revealed accidentally, or/and the information is taken down shortly afterwards, it's a leak. Also, Amazon is not an official source and has no affiliation with Nintenod whatsoever. Rtzxy Image for my signature (and before you say it's too large, I'm going to resize it as [[|20px]]. Split ESRB leak

I think we should consider splitting it. It's by far the biggest leak in Smash history, spanning a number of leakers, websites, etc. Every other leak on here is stuff like Ganondorf making a cameo in a video and having an offhand mention in a Miiverse post, Amazon mentioning modes that hadn't been confirmed yet because they were some of the best features, one user posting a small chunk of the roster, etc. This leak, like I said, had multiple people involved, confirmed the full roster and several stages, and was so big that Nintendo actually sued the original leaker (supposedly). And while it's mentioned above that it isn't as large as the suggested leak size is, there's a lot of more specific information we can add, which we also did with the Gematsu leaks when they were split. Thoughts? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 14:30, 26 November 2014 (EST)

A split suggestion was put into place a few months ago, and I opposed it. Here's were my reasons for that oppose.
  1. The Gematsu "leaks" was around and believed by many for over a year; the ESRB leak was only around for about 3 weeks and was doubted by nearly everyone almost immediately (before proven true).
  2. The leaks page is not large enough for a split, only about 19,500 (now 23,500) bytes, which is (still) less than the 32,000 bytes recommended for a split.
  3. Even if we did split it, there would only be one other leak for the SSB4 category. This point is now false, so just ignore it.
  4. Other well-known leaks don't have their own page, why should this one?
The main thing I point out is #4. While it's still a major leak, I stated that many other notable leaks don't get their own pages. HOWEVER, I now think otherwise. I believe the ESRB leak is notable enough for its own page, but I'm actually quite neutral about the split, for the other reasons above. Files for "Roy" + "Ryu" found. Pontential DLC?

So this has been going on ever since Mewtwo was added into Super Smash Bros 4.

Apparently, this guy (who is known to hack into the files of Super Smash Bros as a whole) discovered some hidden content after 1.0.6 of the game was patched.

It consist of songs already in SSB4, and two that go completely unused (* are the ones):

  • A remix of the Forest Stage taken from Kirby Air Ride.*
  • Reshiram/Zekrom Battle from the Unova League stage.
  • The Pac-Maze theme.
  • Ryu's theme from Street Fighter II.*

There were also plans to add the Gourmet Race theme from SSB64.

It also consist of fanfares for "Mewtwo", "Lucas", "Roy" and (surprisingly) "Ryu". Of note is that the fanfares used for the three characters from Pokemon, Earthbound and Fire Emblem (respectively) all originate from Super Smash Bros. Brawl; meanwhile, the fanfare for "Ryu" is completely new and original.

So, what are your thoughts? Hylia's Eye (talk) 19:03, 15 April 2015 (EDT)

I tested by zooming in and out and changing monitor resolution; it's always two, even if it has to be scrolled or there's a ton of blank space. There's a good chance that it's just filler, but since it lines up with the leak and has been pointed out multiple times by different fans (basically all of my friends who play have noted it, it's been all over my Twitter feed and Tumblr feed, etc.), I think it's notable as a small comment. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Splitting ESRB leak

I'm bringing this back up because we only had two users input last time. So here we go.

Like I said in the previous proposal, the ESRB leak is inarguably the largest and most popular leak in Smash history. A quick glance at this page makes it clear that it was a unique case that has never happened before and will likely never happen again. While it wasn't discussed for as long as the Gematsu leaks, this can easily be explained away by the fact that it was more realistically leaked only a few weeks before the game was released, and even without the years the Gematsu leaks have under their belt, the two are very close to even.

My only concern would be how much we could realistically fit onto the page. I would write up a userspace draft, but I gotta go to bed in a few minutes... So I'll just go add it to my to-do list and hopefully do it when I have time tomorrow. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 22:25, 15 January 2016 (EST)

Rewrite Roy and Ryu section to discuss all major datamining leaks?

Other than the Royu leak, datamining has revealed other unannounced content in the past, namely the Geno outfit and (arguably) balance changes from 1.1.4 and 1.1.6. Should we add one or both of these to the section for the Roy and Ryu leak, or do they not qualify as widespread enough? Nyargleblargle.pngNyargleblargle (Contribs) 21:17, 21 May 2016 (EDT)

If it's widespread enough or not shouldn't be relevant. If they're leaks they're leaks. Battlefield Omega leak was barely covered from what I can recall but it's still worth bringing up here. If the section can be expanded sufficiently with other datamining leaks (maybe via explaining how, such as how CDecrypt was used to uncover stuff from the Wii U updates like Roy and Ryu), then maybe we should do so. - EndGenuity (talk) 22:37, 21 May 2016 (EDT)

"Jiggensteins leak" in the Smash 4 section

Are we sure this should even be here? It looks more like a guess to me. There was no follow-up and there was no proof outside of the vague details they gave being right. I also find it slightly suspicious that they only knew that Robin would use magic, no other details about their moves or that Robin used both sword and magic. Number one, please make new talk pages posts at the bottom of the page, not the top. Number two, please sign your comments (four tildes at the end, like this: ~~~~).
Number three, while some of the information was proven false, there was a lot of truth to Loz's words. While the section you're complaining about mentions that most of what he said in his second post was false, I don't see what the problem is. At the very least, I suppose we could say that he admitted he was trolling and got lucky, but as far as removing the section goes, I don't think so. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. If he has said that he did not have a legitimate source and just got lucky, the section should be moved to List of Rumors, as it is not a leak (it was not actually insider information). However, we would, of course, have to see the source of him saying that, to fully understand the context. (Unless it's on the page already. In which case, I definitely agree with the IP's question.) The Golden Sun Item

I'd like to know a valid reason as to why the section cannot even stay on there aside from the horrid excuse of "it has to be confirmed to be a leak". What more do you need for it to be confirmed at this point? A blog post? For Pete's sake, guys, saying that something that came from a video posted by the official Twitter account of Nintendo of America, needs to be CONFIRMED, is highly ludicrous! This isn't a rumor, this is a leak similar to the Ganondorf leak prior to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS's release.

I'm simply saying this right here, right now, I believe that a leak is completely valid if it comes from an official Nintendo source that can be verified, regardless of what state it's in. There should be no need to remove a section on the grounds of "it needs confirmation" when the confirmation is right in front of you in one link! That being said, I propose the leak section for the Growth Psyenergy stays. Enigma (talk) 22:52, 25 October 2018 (EDT)

SmashWiki is not speculative. We do not know for sure that that item really is Growth Psynergy; that's speculation. That being said, I do believe that we should mention that the item (whatever it may be) was indeed leaked. VoqéoT 23:06, 25 October 2018 (EDT)
The "it needs confirmation" statement isn't referring to the source of the image (being Nintendo), it's referring to the fact that we're not sure if it actually is Growth Synergy. For all we know, it could very well be an item relating to the Healing Field, considering they share similar icons. That said, we should still have a section on here for leaked items, no matter how minor. If I remember correctly, two other items were leaked a while ago in screenshots without actual reveals from Nintendo on the website. Pokebub (talk) 23:06, 25 October 2018 (EDT)
I've tried to move your section to the List of Rumors page, but since only administrators can edit at this point in time, I just left it on the Talk page for administrators to add it in. Unless we also get the remaining claims of his confirmed (additional Square Enix and Minecraft content), I think calling them "proven" leaks seems dubious at best. Miles (talk) 16:01, 1 November 2018 (EDT)
Given the consistency of Vergeben's leaks, I do think that he does deserve a spot in the leak page rather than the rumors page. However, I do also believe that the best way to handle this is by only putting in Vergeben's confirmed leaks, and keeping anything left unconfirmed on the rumors page until they are confirmed or deconfirmed, while also linking to the "rumored Vergeben leaks" and vice versa. I'm certain you guys would agree, considering that he had gotten a lot of the leaks correct in the first place. I think it sounds like a good compromise. Enigma (talk) 02:24, 4 November 2018 (EST)

One major problem though HE WAS CORRECT! If you are going to hold up loz18 as a confirmed real leaker after he confesses to being a know nothing troll but then hold DasVergeben to seperate standards, then you are nothing but a big fat hypocrite. I get it, he fucked your mom in front of you. Get over it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.56.148.18 (talkcontribs) 16:49 4 November 2018 (EST)

Piranha Plant spitting out fire is part of his moveset when he is supposedly available in the final game?

Apparently a leaker talked to IAmShifty and the leaker stated that the Piranha Plant has a move where he spits out fire and this was before Piranha Plant was confirmed to be in smash as DLC source but there is no footage of the Piranha Plant spitting out fire in the trailer. Can you make sure when the Piranha Plant is available in the final game, can you find a move where he spits out fire? --Andreepika11233 (talk) 18:44, 3 November 2018 (EDT)
