Apparently, a beta tester revealed Incineroar and PP earlyEdit

2 months ago, a guy with the Reddit handle Noatesty randomly replied to a post on r/SmashUltimate, describing Incineroar and PP's movesets right down to a T, also remarking PP was only available by using the debug menu. Everything he described ended up being correct, so I think this should be added. (Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/9fk0yw/potential_dlc_fighters/)

If you don't feel like clicking on the link, here's the post he made (very top of the comment thread):

"I worked on it for a while and no fucking joke the only one in the game as of a couple weeks ago is a pirhana plant. I have no idea why. It doesn't even have the fireball they're known for. Such a strange choice, people are going to be pissed when they announce that. It's pretty playable though just some minor graphical bugs last I checked. I assume they'll do more DLC in the future but that's the only one in the build we got (you have to use the debug menu to use him).

Also Incineroar is on the base roster, he does a bunch of wrestling moves, it's kind of weird. Also his purple skin definitely looks like Big the Cat's colors, probably a coincidence but I always found it funny. His side special is especially strange you literally summon ropes and bounce the opponent against them. Seriously I know that sounds stupid but you'll see, that's legitimately his side special. Is there a pokemon move to justify that? I can't imagine there is."108.56.71.43 16:25, 23 November 2018 (EST)

it's really weird how nobody in the Leak section added this up since while leaving the 4chan one as only authentic one that existed first. Its been almost 2 months now. Also i created a screenshot of the original rumor but i'll provide it later on. ZenythSmash (talk) 01:06, 12 January 2019 (EST)

Ultimate gameplay has leaked and revealed that Marx is the boss of Kirby's classic modeEdit

Someone needs to add this soon since I can't add it myself for obvious reasons also the one who leaked it was a YouTuber called Jared desantis

Way more than that. We're also getting Ganon as a boss (OoT version), Crazy Hand got a new remix, tons of Spirits got revealed, and two more maps for World of Light got revealed (most damning, a World of Dark version and a multi-phased boss fight). That's not even everything revealed in the datamines. I feel sorry for whoever has to catalog all this. 108.56.71.43 20:39, 24 November 2018 (EST)

That would go to the List of rumors page, as it hasn't been proven correct.   Corrin Fan   20:54, 24 November 2018 (EST)
Really, dog? This was all ripped directly from the game's files. What more does it need to be proven correct? God coming down from the sky and saying "Yup, this shit's legit?" If you really doubt this, look it up.

For anybody else reading this, here's a video documenting all this; multiple links to the info found is present in the video description (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k1qay55vmM)108.56.71.43 21:02, 24 November 2018 (EST)

Is that from Nintendo's channel? If not, then it doesn't need to be here. We can a: wait until release or
b: put it in the List of rumors page until Nintendo's confirmation. As it needs to be confirmed by NINTENDO to be true.   Corrin Fan   21:33, 24 November 2018 (EST)
Are you blind, deaf, or just fucking stupid? This data was RIPPED FROM THE GAME FILES. THAT'S LITERALLY ALL THE EVIDENCE ANYBODY NEEDS. YOU CAN FIND LITERALLY ALL OF THIS ONLINE (the WoL cutscenes, pictures of the bosses, everything) if you used your fucking brain. If you got the full copy of this game in your hands and played it and found it was all true, would you say "Nope, Ninteny didn't say this, it's not confirmed?" I know wiki moderation isn't exactly intelligent in general, but holy shit. Smh. 108.56.71.43 21:39, 24 November 2018 (EST)
Have a read of SmashWiki:Citation, and also SW:NPA while you’re at it. Your extremely unpleasant behaviour will not see you lasting very long here if you do not kerb it. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 22:15, 24 November 2018 (EST)
If I may, an early copy of the game isn't exactly a "leak" that would go under our leaks page in its own little section; it's weird, but that's how it is (unless someone would like to argue that). That said, a mention of it would not be a bad idea (i.e., "two weeks before Ultimate's release date, people began to pirate the game and stream it online, showing off unrevealed information about the game.") Regarding the current state of the discussion, however:
  1. IP - we will not tolerate that kind of behavior on the wiki. This is to be a positive environment; we're not Facebook or Twitter or Reddit.
  2. Corrin Fan - I do have to side with the IP here. There isn't much more proof than the files from the game itself. Sure, people have attempted to make up stuff before about what's in the game's files, but video proof can't really be beat. We tried to do that once, and it failed.
Aidan, the Festive Rurouni 22:28, 24 November 2018 (EST)
Yeah, no. The IP, though incredibly rude, is right. Nintendo does not need to confirm that something is true for it to be true; the game itself, and datamines from said game (plus actual Twitch/YouTube streams!) are reliable sources that can be used to confirm/deconfirm leaks, which we have. Rtzxy   Reflect! 22:37, 24 November 2018 (EST)
According to the website TV Tropes, what happened is that the game was shipped to Mexican retailers early, and the retailers just shrugged and sold them as-is. I assume we're not actually putting any of this thread in the article until after the game actually launches, though, from what I can tell.99.46.176.64 17:18, 27 November 2018 (EST)
Also, you said they were "ripped from the game files." Great, we literally have a notice on the top of every wiki page stating not to upload datamined content. SugarCookie420 (talk) 17:48, 27 November 2018 (EST)

How come the datamine isn't anywhere on this page?Edit

It's pretty dang significant if you ask me. The entire game was leaked two weeks early over the internet after early copies were accidentally released in Mexico, and tons of stuff was shown off like all the music tracks, all the bosses, Snake's Codecs, Mii costumes, spirits, how tons of modes like Squad Strike work, Palutena's Guidances, the entirety of World of Light, it's maps and it's cutscenes, and so much more. It boggles my mind how something this huge is barely mentioned at all like it never even happened. And this stuff was never shown off before, and was all found via leaks and the leaked copies of the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JustrzBustrz (talkcontribs) 23:56, January 3, 2019

Please read the page more carefully; the leak you mention is indeed listed under the heading "Completed Game Leak". Toomai Glittershine   The Spectrum 19:34, 6 February 2019 (EST)

Did you read the page, IP? Because the datamine is, in fact, on the page. Should the Grinch Leak be included on this page?Edit

The Grinch leak was probably one of the most convincing fake leaks for Smash Ultimate, and I think it deserves a spot on the page. Not really much else I want to put, just that question. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blue Guy (talkcontribs) 16:26, February 11, 2019

As the so called "Grinch Leak" was proven false (with only one of the supposed characters being in the actual game), it stays on the List of Rumors page. The leaks page is specifically for leaks proven true/correct.CardboardLuigi (talk) 20:19, 11 February 2019 (EST)
AAAAAAAND for leaks that are made by people we like. But not leaks made by the evil Kraut Man. Kraut Man Bad. Joker's stage leaked?Edit

Joker's stage may have been datamined, it seems to be Mementos.

Should the CoroCoro stage thing be on this page?Edit

While I'm aware that the List of Rumors is still locked, I'm curious as to why some people decided to add the C.C. thing to this page.
I just want to know what the plan and consensus is regarding this entry. CardboardLuigi (talk) 17:33, 23 February 2019 (EST)

I'm guessing because misprint or not, 108 is the correct amount of stages, the 103 we have now and the 5 we will get for DLC. SugarCookie 420 17:57, 23 February 2019 (EST)

This added to the article. It make sense to delete this now. RobbyB3ll4s (talk) 20:29, February 10, 2020 (EST)

I'm going back on this. I still have my doubts as to whether or not this belongs in leaks at all. Their next issue dropped the stages from 108 to 103, and DLC wasn't publicly announced until the November 2018 Direct. I'm highly doubtful that CoroCoro was given information about the announcement of the DLC stages from Nintendo or some other source given that their September issue with their "108" stages were mostly retreading the content announced from the August 2018 Direct. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 08:13, March 5, 2022 (EST)

Stage Builer leakEdit

I though the stage builder leak was supposed to remain on the rumors page MateNan (talk) 14:42, April 10, 2019 (EDT)

It was agreed on (mostly) that since the leak came from an official source (Nintendo), there is no way it could be false. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Sonic Fan Leave a message if needed 15:11, April 10, 2019 (EDT)
I am also of opinion that it should be in Leaks. VoqéoT 15:50, April 10, 2019 (EDT)
It's not a matter of whether or not it's false - it's a matter of it being not fully confirmed yet. It's weird, I will admit, but I'm simply following what's been done previously, as all three were on the rumors page before official confirmation. Aidan, the Springing Rurouni 15:53, April 10, 2019 (EDT)
I don't agree that this is really how leaks should work. Fact is, whether intentionally or not, Nintendo leaked information about the upcoming update, and therefore it should be noted in the leak article. It makes absolutely no sense not to. Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 15:56, April 10, 2019 (EDT)

RenameEdit

Support moving to "list of notable leaks", and perhaps splitting per-game as well. Toomai Glittershine   The Honcho 11:01, July 6, 2019 (EDT)

Honestly? I don't really care what they are moved to so long as they are made consistent. That's just me though. - EndGenuity (talk) 11:48, July 6, 2019 (EDT)
I don't feel "notable" is necessary. "List of leaks" is enough. Bwburke94 (talk) 16:48, July 7, 2019 (EDT)
”List of leaks” implies that we documented all of them. The thing is, there might be some that went right under or nose. Regardless, [[List of Rumors” should have “notable” added to its title so that we make it clear that we aren’t documenting EVERY single rumor. Lou Cena (talk) 16:18, July 8, 2019 (EDT)
If there are "some that went right under our nose", then they should be documented here as soon as possible. Sure, this page might not have every leak in Smash history, but that is certainly the goal of the page. - EndGenuity (talk) 22:24, July 8, 2019 (EDT)
Support. Better this be List of leaks than just "Leaks" and "Rumors". --Meester Tweester (talk) 23:21, July 19, 2019 (EDT)

I see there's already a discussion here despite the fact that I added the tag. Despite this, one of the pages should be renamed for consistency, and "Rumor" sounds terrible. 72.203.118.154 17:13, January 9, 2020 (EST)
Support If any of the two pages should be renamed it's this one, as "Rumor" sounds stupid. SupαToαd64   20:25, January 12, 2020 (EST)

Does it have to be "list of notable leaks"? I mean... I don't know how or why leaks have to be "notable": they're either confirmed to be real or not. It works for rumors since that's actually a metric used to determine what goes on the page. Unless I'm mistaken, a leak's veracity can not and should not be determined by how much traction it gets, but if it verifiably leaks information before its intended publishing date or not. Perhaps "List of notable rumors" and "List of confirmed leaks" would work in this case? - EndGenuity (talk) 21:06, February 10, 2020 (EST)

Adding "notable" to the title lets readers know if said leak was reliable. For example, the I remember somebody on Reddit saying that King K. Rool would get in, without any other info. Even though he did get in, there is no way to prove if he was right because he had no other info. 72.203.118.154 10:46, February 21, 2020 (EST)
But that's the thing: if you can't prove that it's a real leak, then it by definition is not a "confirmed" leak. Plenty of fans said K. Rool would be in the game, but obviously that's not leaking and it's completely impractical to prove that it was. And besides, isn't another component of notability how much discussion it gets? Because certainly several pieces here, particularly in the Ultimate section, didn't garner significant discussion (though that might just be more of a sign that we need to trim the fat...). And even then, the stuff here is supposed to warrant discussion because they've been confirmed. - EndGenuity (talk) 13:14, February 21, 2020 (EST)

...You're absolutely correct. "List of confirmed leaks" is a better name noe that I think about it. Though it should be noted that there are a couple of reliably true leaks that didn't garner discussion, such as the E3 leak that leaked Echo Fighters and the Piranha Plant leak. While those did have a little wrong info, (Squid Sisters being Inklings' FS and Plant being in a car), those seem to be more human error than wrong info. 72.203.118.154 05:04, February 22, 2020 (EST)

Bumping this: the tag has been up for a long time so let's decide on one name: either list of rumors gets moved, or this is going to be:

  • "List of leaks",
  • "List of notable leaks",
  • "List of confirmed leaks"

Me personally, the last one makes it clear that this page is for confirmed leaks.   OmegαToαd the Toαd Wαrrior (BUP) 20:55, April 6, 2020 (EDT)

Support "List of confirmed leaks". - Mega Mario Man (talk) 16:00, April 7, 2020 (EDT)

Wait what? We're not putting the "confirmed" in the title? Or was there not enough consensus for it? Granted, I don't really care since "notable" is not in the title, but still. - EndGenuity (talk) 20:52, May 9, 2020 (EDT)

For now it's a minor thing so I don't think it's needed for now. There was a bit of a conflict going on so for now let's just leave this the way it is unless there is a big disagreement.   OmegαToαd64the Best Kαrter 21:00, May 9, 2020 (EDT)

So It Seems The Dragon Quest Spirits Got Leaked...Edit

From what I've heard, a few people messed around with urls used on some official site used for Spirit Events, and people found previews for spirits that Hero seems to be bringing with him, such as the iconic Slime enemy,a Golem,a King Slime,a Killer Panther, and three other baddies plus the entire party of Dragon Quest XI (ala The Phantom Thieves spirit) that I don't have links to.
So do we add this to the List of Rumors and later this page, or what? CardboardLuigi (talk) 21:35, July 26, 2019 (EDT)

Removal of Stage Builder leakEdit

The stage builder "leak" listed this page should not be considered a leak on the basis that it was directly showed off in an advertisement. Unlike the SSBB Lucario/Jigglypuff/Ness leak and SSB4 Ganondorf leak, Stage Builder being showed off in this ad was seemingly intentional. The ad was not edited or removed to reflect the "leak" and the ad even takes time to emphasize the new mode in the background. This same argument can be applied to the Battlefield Ω "leak". So with that said, I support removal of the Stage Builder and Battlefield Ω leaks. Señor Mexicano (talk) 07:52, December 16, 2020 (EST)

Support. Not much else I can add to that. Aidan, the Festive Rurouni 15:54, December 16, 2020 (EST)

Intent is not what defines whether something is a leak or not. A leak is simply when something is revealed prior to an official announcement/acknowledgement. Intentionally leaking something is entirely possible, and in fact many individuals/companies have used this technique. Alex the Weeb 08:41, December 17, 2020 (EST)

And in what way is this ad not an "acknowledgement" of the mode? Intent matters sure, but if the intent is to intentionally reveal something in a tease, then it's not a leak. Under your argument, just about any tease from any developer or publisher could be considered a leak. Señor Mexicano (talk) 14:01, December 17, 2020 (EST)

To reiterate what I said above, something being teased or shown off without a formal announcement is not always a leak. In a recent example, the Xbox Game Pass twitter account recently posted an Among Us gif. Was this a leak about the game coming to the service because there was no formal announcement? No, this was a tease. Similarly, Nintendo teased the new mode in the advertisement. Señor Mexicano (talk) 14:33, December 17, 2020 (EST)

Bonus DLC characterEdit

Piranha Plant's code is 70050000008501, Joker is 70050000008502, and so on until Byleth, the last character in the first Fighter's Pass. This is then followed by the Mii costume of Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is labelled with the code 70050000008507 and is given as a bonus for purchasing Fighter's Pass 1.

The same applies for Fighter's Pass 2. Min Min, the first character, has the code 70050000018967 and the numbers again ascend chronologically up to Pyra/Mythra, who have the code 70050000018970. The two unannounced fighters have the codes 70050000018971 and 70050000018972 respectively. But, curiously, the bonus Mii costume that comes with the pass is listed with 70050000018974. remove Sora LeakEdit

its so obviously a coincidence, there's definitely posts out there like this for every day possible. theres no way of verifying it and its highly unlikely someone with that authority would just leak that info for no reason RSM    (talk) 13:54, October 5, 2021 (EDT)

While it's certainly likely to be a coincidence, it's not "obviously" one. Like it or not, real leaks do happen, and while it's certainly less credible than other similar 4chan "leaks" due to having less information, I think that the stir it caused within the community makes up for its sketchy origins in terms of notability as a rumour... but most certainly not as a "leak." So I moved it to List of rumors instead. Sincerely, Samuel the Banjo-Kazooie Boss.   14:50, October 17, 2021 (EDT)
Coincidence or not, it was 100% correct, and thus fits more under this page. I'm not saying it can't be a coincidence, but to say it's "obviously" one sounds more like denial than anything else. I also want to add that it specifically mentioned using music in the presentation instead of the game, and Simple and Clean is only in the presentation, not the game. 68.4.176.97 15:13, October 17, 2021 (EDT)
Mate, this page is only for 100% confirmed true leaks. You can't say "coincidence or not" when coincidences are not permitted on this page. Being a possible leak that could just be an interesting coincidence does not qualify a post for this page, any admin will tell you that. Sincerely, Samuel the Banjo-Kazooie Boss.   15:53, October 17, 2021 (EDT)
The fact that the leaker specified their job lets us know that this is the only thing they could leak, and supports the credibility by giving an actual source. They can't leak any more characters because Sora was the last one. They couldn't leak the mii costumes because none of them were disney. They couldn't leak Sora's moveset because they're not a game developer. A lack of info is a terrible reason to call this a coincidence when we go by the circumstance. 68.4.176.97 16:23, October 17, 2021 (EDT)
"A lack of info is a terrible reason?" Are you kidding? There's too much of a reason to NOT believe it was real. I'm not convinced either way, but you're being a bit too optimistic here. Of course the story is believable, but for all we know it's just as likely a skilled, logical, think-it-through liar came up with this crap; and in case you didn't know about how this stuff works, hundreds of these text-based "leaks" appear on message boards every week, so as RSM stated a lucky guess is possible enough such that we can't dismiss the case one way or another. Sincerely, Samuel the Banjo-Kazooie Boss.   17:23, October 17, 2021 (EDT)
If you and RSM are really that insistent that there is a possibility of this being a coincidence, the best compromise would be to keep the Sora leak/rumor on both pages in the same way Vergeben and Gemastu are. Putting it solely on the rumors page when the info is 100% correct just sounds asinine. Even then, I think putting it on the rumors page at all isn't a great idea when "widely considered to be a coincidence" is a total lie. I only see you and RSM calling it one; everywhere else I've seen post-reveal realizes that there is a much higher chance of it being legitimate. Pre-reveal, sure, it could be brushed off as a coincidence, but post-reveal, there's not enough evidence to suggest it's a coincidence. Most of the leaks on this page that aren't done by Nintendo are text-only (only exceptions I can think of are the ESRB leak and the 7-11 leaks), with the only difference between those and this being that they'd leak more characters, something that isn't possible with Sora being the last one. This is what I mean by a lack of info is a terrible reason to call it a coincidence; there's not much to go over to begin with. The universally accepted leaks that leaked actual movesets to my knowledge were the Piranha Plant leaks. While Sora's moveset wasn't leaked, I want to stress again that specifying that the music (Simple and Clean) was for the presentation instead of the game adds some credibility to the statement. 68.4.176.97 18:44, October 17, 2021 (EDT)

In light of a chat with Omega Tyrant on the Discord server and the description of this edit of his, I hereby withdraw my case. Still split on the leak being real, but I do admit there were aspects of it that I wasn't considering in the middle of this debate. Although FYI, it should be noted that I and RSM are far from the only people who would prefer to treat the posts as indeterminate; you'll discover that on the Discord server. Sincerely, Samuel the Banjo-Kazooie Boss.   15:07, October 20, 2021 (EDT)

Chris Niosi Leak?Edit

Chris Niosi was the initial voice of Male Byleth but was recast and patched out of both Fire Emblem Three Houses and Fire Emblem Heroes shortly after release as a result of violating his NDA (along with other allegations raised against him at the time). The comment that got Niosi fired was something along the lines of "I'm voicing a character who will end up in Smash Bros the game is coming out soon" Should this be taken as a legitimate leak or was this just wishful thinking on Niosi's part that ended up being true? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cBVHRhF3uLcNVZJ6B2s-kkrtrCRgLN9TJ5zs7nP4stk/edit Skibot99 (talk) 15:36, January 18, 2023 (EST)

I'd say it was wishful thinking. I don't know if a voice actor would know their character's getting in Smash that far in advance and looking at the tone of the Google Doc he was just being cocky. 123VideoGamerNinja (talk) 14:24, January 19, 2023 (EST)

Regarding "Jane"Edit

Regarding the section about the "Jane" text leak. There have been several additions, recently and in the past, of speculation that it's connected to Ann Takamaki. I wanted to point out that any such connection is purely speculative and not supported by evidence in the data. The internal naming conventions in Ultimate refer to all of the Phantom Thieves by their codenames ("panther" in this case) and make no mention of "Ann" with any spelling, nor does the game use single-letter prefixes like "J" to group data. There is nothing connecting "Jane" to anything in the final game with any reasonable certainty.

I do accept the possibility that it's connected to Ann; however, it is pure conjecture, and no more definitive than any other theory. On that basis, I am happy to leave in the article a mention of the theory, but without the definitive wording currently present. Dr. HyperCake (talk) 20:28, January 25, 2024 (EST)
