Name in "Origin" section

I think we should refer to "Ren" as "the protagonist" in the Origin section like we do on Protagonist (Persona 3). Fans disagree just as much on his "canon" name as they do with Makoto/Minato, and ATLUS hasn't really said anything, so. Yes, Ren is definitely the more commonly used name in official media, but I feel like SW:OFFICIAL can apply here.

Many characters have changeable names like Cloud and Byleth so it’s better to keep him in the origin section as Ren and also it be confusing and weird to call him “Protagonist (P5) is the main Character” for example Thegameandwatch (talk) 09:21, May 24, 2020 (EDT)

The difference here, though, is that in FFVII Cloud is the default name that's written in the spaces; thus making it "canon" or at least the default. Not sure if it's the same with Fire Emblem, but default names have been a thing in that series since the advent of custom avatars so it wouldn't be too farfetched. Meanwhile, the name "Ren Amamiya" only appears in spinoffs, and not even all of them. Also, regarding the part about it being confusing, it was done quite well on the P3 Protag's page. "But what about Yu Narukami?" He's kinda the odd one out here, since ATLUS has been so consistent with using that particular name with him. I'd say he goes more in the "Fire Emblem" category I mentioned above, as opposed to FFVII or P5/P3. tl;dr: those ones either show up in game or are consistently used, while Ren is not, and the P3 Protag's page does well in calling Makoto/Minato "the protagonist". Unfortunately, spoilers are such a low priority for SmashWiki that the Wiki doesn't even make an attempt to warn users about spoilers. If you wish to avoid spoilers, either don't read certain sections that are likely to contain spoilers (like Origin or Trivia) or just don't browse SmashWiki at all. A lot of pages do have spoilers for the fighter's games, the difference is that a lot of fighters come from old games where the story can be summarized as "bad guy did a bad, stop him". Only more recent fighters, such as Joker and Aegis, are involved in games that have detailed plots. There may also be the level of devotion from editors because Young/Toon Link have a lot of detail because there is story to get invested in but Lucina doesn't because she's from Fire Emblem, a series where sometimes the reaction is (from my understanding) "oh yeah there's a plot in my dating sim". --CanvasK (talk) 14:37, April 20, 2021 (EDT)

Spoilers are not an issue and Persona 5 isn't even that new anymore, but on the other hand there is a benefit in trimming character bios in general since most are honestly too long. Rdrfc (talk) 18:32, April 20, 2021 (EDT)
