Split[edit]

Almost forgot that this page covers both the Ink effect and mechanic. Completely support splitting, tag provides all the justification necessary. Acgamer28A duplicate of CaptainFalconHeadBlueSSBU.png to be used as an addition to my signature. 17:54, June 22, 2020 (EDT)

I have to agree. Ink (the ammunition) and ink (the status effect) have nothing in common but the name, so I don't see the reason to have them on the same page. Ahemtoday (talk) 18:11, June 22, 2020 (EDT)

Also support. Could be split into pages "Ink (Fighter Ability)" and "Ink (Effect)" maybe? Silva (talk) 04:29, June 25, 2020 (EDT)

I like this one. Support, but make a Disambiguation page with it.--PlagueSigImage.pngPlague von KarmaPlagueSigImage.png 13:38, June 28, 2020 (EDT)
Support per Plague. Pokebub (talk) 13:46, June 28, 2020 (EDT)

Bumping this: even though there seems to be a clear consensus that we ought to split this page, how exactly should we do this? A page soley on the ink effect will be split off, but how do we name the article about it as a mechanic? "Ink (ammunition)" and "Ink (effect)", maybe? Ahemtoday (talk) 18:43, July 20, 2020 (EDT)

Bumpng and Supporting this move this is a good idea. S3AHAWK (talk)This image is my signature icon. Also seen on Wikibound as File:S3AHAWK SIG.png 23:18, August 11, 2020 (EDT)

Oppose I think the Ink effect is small enough to not warrant a page of its own. It's better, in my opinion, if it stays here with its own small section, especially since the Ink mechanic and the effect often appear together. Hitbox Enthusiast Zeck (talk) 23:25, August 11, 2020 (EDT)

Okay, upon reading up, there are actually three separate game mechanics shoved into one article. There's the ammunition in Inkling's moveset, there's covering people in ink, and then there's the "ink" effect (which is just a particle effect like the Flame effect). None of those things have any correlation with each other at all, and yet here they are. People who want to look up information on one of these things currently have to search for it between the parts that are information about the other two. I think it's absolutely terrible. Ahemtoday (talk) 12:03, August 15, 2020 (EDT)

I thought I already gave my support on this, but guess not. Support. As for "ammunition" it could be "Ink Tank" similar to how Joker has Rebellion Gauge and Hero has MP Gauge. Then you have the ink mechanic which affects the damage multiplier and then the visual effect. --CanvasK (talk) 13:46, August 15, 2020 (EDT)
Ooh, "Ink Tank" is good. Put my vote toward that one specifically. I'm still not sure about coming up with names for the other two. "Ink (effect)" for the visual effect seems like a given based on how we do stuff like Water (effect), but that makes it a little difficult to name the remaining page. "Ink (mechanic)" is a little ambiguous because it could refer to all three of these - that's kinda how we ended up in this mess in the first place. "Ink (status effect)" is the least ambiguous thing I can come up with, but that might come a little too close to "Ink (effect)". Ahemtoday (talk) 16:23, August 18, 2020 (EDT)
Support, since the fighter mechanic and effect are different. I'd say do Ink Tank and Ink (Effect) or something like that. ---PinkYoshiFan
Been a while, but I want to reiterate that if this split happens, there should be a disambiguation page. PlagueSigImage.pngPlague von KarmaPlagueSigImage.png 06:38, November 9, 2020 (EST)

Maybe u can do the one that makes the most sense? Dcx (talk) 08:41, December 1, 2020 (EST)

...Yes, that is the idea of having this discussion. Which one do you think that is? Ahemtoday (talk) 12:09, December 7, 2020 (EST)
Support, I say "Ink" refer to the mechanic and "Ink (effect)" refer to the effect. Sincerely, Samuel the BANjO-KAZOOiE Boss. Picture that will go next to my signature, a duplicate of Banjo & Kazooie's stock icon. 17:12, December 14, 2020 (EST)

Okay, so let me formalize a proposal on what exactly we're doing here. The way I see it, there'll be four pages:

  • Ink (disambiguation), which is a disambiguation page that links to all three of the following pages.
  • Ink Tank, a page that details Inkling's ammunition, shield special, and the ink costs of moves.
  • Ink (status), a page that details the mechanics of covering fighters in ink, which moves do so, and how much.
  • Ink (effect), a page similar to other effect pages that list the attacks that have the ink particle effect.

Does this sound good to everyone? Ahemtoday (talk) 20:34, December 15, 2020 (EST)

I don't see there being enough information on the Inkling's mechanic to warrant a whole page, but rather I feel that could all fit on the Fighter ability page; I could be wrong on that, though. Otherwise, all that sounds good to me. Sincerely, Samuel the Banjo-Kazooie Boss. A bit late, but I made the split. Ahemtoday (talk) 22:45, March 28, 2022 (EDT)

Regarding the damage equation[edit]

I feel like the equation provided is rather difficult to parse. Is there any way it could be reformatted in proper Latex notation? Fennaixelphox (talk) 22:59, October 20, 2020 (EDT)

I'm not sure what "proper LaTeX notation" is. Only thing I can think of is replace the "*" with a "×" and maybe brackets around "ink * 0.5", but following the order of operations would give the same result regardless. --CanvasK (talk) 05:03, October 21, 2020 (EDT)
It's three simple operations, there's no need to replace it with an image in the same way as the knockback or aura equations. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Wacko 07:26, October 21, 2020 (EDT)

How does the effect work with free-for-alls?[edit]

When a character is covered in ink, so they take more damage from every source, or just Inkling, and if they only take damage from Inkling, is it just the Inkling that applied it or any Inkling. Furthermore, if an Inkling attacks an opponent covered in somebody else's ink, does the other ink get slowly removed, or do opponents take even more damage from multiple colored inks? The article makes it clear that individual inks are exactly the same on their own, but it doesn't mention how it interacts with other inks. 72.219.72.215 17:51, April 15, 2021 (EDT)

I have put this to the test, and here are my findings:
  • Ink damage applies to damage received from anyone, regardless of who applied it.
  • Only one colour at a time can coat a character. If they are hit with a different coloured ink, their colour will suddenly change once there’s enough. How much this is depends on the coat value of each colour, with the higher one being the dominant colour. Concurrent values will count down as normal.
  • Despite my findings above, multiple colour coatings DO NOT result in further increased damage.
