Um[edit]

How exactly is this a "technique" when the article itself stresses how the phantom hits are for the most part completely unintentional, and does not seems to aid the character at all? The definiton of technique in the category itself states, "Techniques are actions done by characters other than attacks that improve the skills of the player." Notrly for glancing blows. --HavocReaper'48 22:09, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

It's not a technique; thing is the Dojo lumped it in with some actual techniques. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 22:11, July 15, 2010 (UTC)
Can I have a link? Also, do we still keep it a technique? --HavocReaper'48 22:20, July 15, 2010 (UTC)
This page. We shouldn't keep it as a technique. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 22:30, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Melee image[edit]

Considering how there's no indication of glancing blows in Melee, I would argue that an image of such would be quite useless if it could even exist. Toomai Glittershine ??? The SMASH-GINEER 18:16, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

You could by taking a screenshot that shows a before and after, where a glancing blow deals half the damage with no knockback. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 18:21, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

move[edit]

Support and proof [is here] Nintendofan1653 (talk) EZMONEY!! 18:07, 24 January 2016 (EST)

Given that I have never heard of "phantom hit" until just now, and that the term is apparently Melee exclusive, I oppose. Serpent SKSig.png King 18:10, 24 January 2016 (EST)
It's not Melee exclusive, it's just used most frequently for Melee. That said, I don't see a reason for the move given that there's an official name in place. Oppose. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 18:15, 24 January 2016 (EST)
OPPOSE BIG TIME. Both terms are used a lot, but one game is phantom hit used, whilst glancing blow is rather common all around the series (except for Melee). Penro, the PenroDarkPitHead.pngand PenroZSSHead.png main. 18:24, 24 January 2016 (EST)
I think it would have to be used a lot more. Apparently "phantom hit" isn't that well known."Prioritize using official names unless a different name is much more widely used." So I oppose. -- EthanUser:Ethan7(Discussion) 22:00, 24 January 2016 (EST)
Clearly not many people know phantom hit. Oppose. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 22:16, 24 January 2016 (EST)

Oppose. I hear phantom hit a bit more, but not enough to negate the fact that glancing blow is the official term. Nyargleblargle.pngNyargleblargle (Contribs) 00:00, 11 November 2018 (EST)

Oppose. A phantom hit is a unique mechanic in Melee. In Brawl and later games, glancing blow is the appropriate term to describe what happens -- there's really no hit and there's nothing phantom about it! Really, I couldn't think of a better term for it than glancing blow, and using phantom hit for all games would just be nonsensical. SuperFalconBros (talk) 00:10, 11 November 2018 (EST)

Neutral. If phantom hits are indeed a unique mechanic, they deserve their own page and this should stay. However, if there is no difference between Melee’s mechanic and the mechanic as seen in future games, I support a move because I never ever hear the term "glancing blow." It doesn't deserve its own page any more than "Pummel (SSBM)" or something like that does, just because the mechanic works differently in that game. Calling it a unique mechanic was bad wording on my part, as the outcome only really differs in Brawl and later games in that there are no freeze frames and no knockback. It's just that that difference makes them much weirder and hard to distinguish in Melee, hence the term phantom hit and the stigma around them, which is unique to Melee. That's really what I was alluding to. SuperFalconBros (talk) 00:41, 11 November 2018 (EST)

Oppose Since glancing blow is used from Brawl onwards, I think it needs to stay here. Also being called phantom hit in Melee alone isn't enough to move it there. For personal use. Corrin Fan Walls Can Fall.jpg 12:49, 12 November 2018 (EST)

Strong Oppose, per SK and also others. Additionally, I’ve never heard anyone but the Meleelitists call these Phantom Hits. 72.133.91.93 13:41, 12 November 2018 (EST)Blueflame105

Strong oppose. There’s no point in even remotely looking into this. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 16:50, 12 November 2018 (EST)

Yeah this is kind of based on faulty evidence, since I put the tag there because I had personally never seen "glancing blow", and because of a few Google searches for sides other than here ([1][2][3][4]). I'll withdraw the proposal. PikaSamus (talk) 17:44, 12 November 2018 (EST)
