GeemerEdit

In Super Metroid, there were purple Zoomers, so the color is not proof that these are Geemers. PikaSamus (talk)   10:16, 16 September 2014 (EDT)

Apparently, according to the tips, they are indeed Geemers. Berrenta (talk) 10:26, 16 September 2014 (EDT)
Ah. I see, then. The purple ones were called Zoomers in Super, so I assumed it was the purple Zoomer. I support now.PikaSamus (talk)   10:36, 16 September 2014 (EDT)
Since I'm the one who attempted to move the page in the first place, I think I should clarify why I decided to do so. I'll try to make this quick. During the development of Super Metroid, the Zoomer enemies from the original game were renamed Geemers. But the English localization team decided to keep the name Zoomer for the weaker ones, and call the stronger ones Geemers. This mistranslation also carried over into all translations of Metroid Prime. But as of Other M, both variations of the species are known as Geemers. The Smash Run enemies are based on their Other M appearance, and are (most importantly) called Geemers in the Tips section, clearing any doubt. So I obviously support this move. According to MetroidWiki, Geemers did not appear in Super, but only in the 3D games. I'm pretty sure both variations were called Zoomers outside of Japan until Prime called the stronger ones Geemers. PikaSamus (talk)   11:33, 24 September 2014 (EDT)
Hmm. I searched a bit, and found a reliable explanation, courtesy of Metroid Database (a website with a very long history of translating text from Metroid games). Seems you're right that Prime was the first to make a distinction between the two. The Smash Run enemy is still called a Geemer, but at least the confusion is finally cleared up. I'll do everyone a favor and move the article already. EDIT: I just found that the "Geemer" page I created is still intact. Apologies for this mess. It's obviously been too long since I've edited a wiki. FateSystem (talk) 07:11, 25 September 2014 (EDT)

Don't add useless comments like that, please. Rtzxy   Smashing! 18:52, 26 September 2014 (EDT)
According to the trophy (in the PAL release at least) it appears to be Geemer, this is probably the most reliable info over appearances in other games. TheDavsto (talk) 06:45, 11 October 2014 (EDT)
