Isn't there also a time limit to how long you can hang off the ledge? The article doesn't say anything about it but I'm pretty sure there is. 60.242.169.170 11:25, December 29, 2009 (UTC)

I agree. Someone needs to research if the time varies by character or damage. - Gargomon251 (talk) 21:09, December 29, 2009 (UTC)
This sure is late, but I'll take a look at it. Espyo (talk) 15:04, 15 November 2010 (EST)

Move suggestion: "ledge" vs. "edge" numbers[edit]

Google results for "ledge site:smashboards.com": 28k

Google results for "edge site:smashboards.com": 32.5k

SmashWiki pages that start with "ledge": 4 (+18 redirects)

SmashWiki pages that start with "edge": 8 (+29 redirects)

Moving this page would imply moving all "ledge" pages to "edge" pages, but would not necessarily mean writing "ledge" in articles is bad. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Boss 13:17, 29 June 2013 (EDT)

I've always called it "edge" and heard it called "edge", so I Support unless there is considerable evidence that its better named "ledge". DoctorPain99 14:37, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
Support I know a lot of people that refer to it as the edge, but not so much as ledge. -- Conny Airconny Snake Sig.png 15:14, 5 July 2013 (EDT)
Support Edge just sounds better. Scr7Wolfsig.png 15:57, 5 July 2013 (EDT)
Support Agree w/ Scr7. RoyboyX Talk 11:29, 21 July 2013 (EDT)

Bump. RoyboyX Talk 22:24, 29 July 2013 (EDT)

Support Per above, and you don't hear anybody say "ledgeguard" either. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Spy 23:42, 29 July 2013 (EDT)

Meh, I hear both terms fairly often. Still, we might as well go with the more popular. Support. Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 23:54, 29 July 2013 (EDT)

Time to rename I suppose. Admins? [redirect needs to be deleted] RoyboyX Talk 22:50, 30 July 2013 (EDT)

Yeah I'll work on it. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Yellow 23:27, 30 July 2013 (EDT)

Ledge and Edge distinction[edit]

Should there be/is there a distinction made? I see edge as the general area off of and including the side of the stage, with the ledge being a specific part where characters may grab onto. --Quilt (talk) 04:29, 31 August 2013 (EDT)

As I have always understood it, an “edge” is any corner of a platform, regardless of whether it has a Cliff programmed into it. The term “edge cancel”, referring to interrupting aerials by landing so that the character goes straight into his Ottotto animation that interrupts his LandingAir animation, further shows that “edge” and “ledge” are not the same.
The ledge is what you can hold on to, the edge is just the end of a platform. Thus I propose moving this article to 'ledge' and change all the terms accordingly. Kadano (talk) 12:07, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
Is this distinction between the words widely accepted by the majority of the community? Personally I don't think it makes much sense to use two different words for "edges that can be grabbed" and "edges that can't be grabbed". Toomai Glittershine ??? The Hammer 12:18, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
