MergeEdit

Support per tag.  Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 08:06, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

Support same as with Upperdash/Electroshock Arm. WolfBloodSpam (talk) 08:29, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

Support. Only difference is fire effects and damage. b2jammer (talk) 11:26, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

Strong oppose. Didn't jump in on the Electroshock page, but imo it'd be better to leave special move pages separate if they a) have a different English name and b) belong to a different character. That just makes more sense to me as where to draw the line. Miles (talk) 11:45, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

Oppose. Per Miles. It's still a different move. I'm actually opposed to Fox's and Falco's Blasters sharing a page, so I have a problem with this suggestion. John   PK SMAAAASH!! 11:59, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

Oppose per Miles. Honestly I felt that Electroshock Arm shouldn't have been merged with Upperdash Arm either, but whatevs. Disaster Flare   (talk) 12:01, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
The two are pretty much different moves. Different knockback, as well as effects. It'd be like merging Fox Illusion and Falco Phantasm together.  Aidan, the Wandering Dragon Warrior  12:10, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
We ought to split them then, right? Honestly, I think we can afford to split Palutena's Bow and Silver Bow too. John   PK SMAAAASH!! 12:27, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
Uh, what's the point of this? I don't get it. The tag lacks sound logic. Oppose. MuteSpittah (talk) 13:03, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

The moves are virtually the same. Heck, the description of the move on this page is extremely short, simply saying it's like Dancing Blade but with fire effects, and most of the writing probably belongs on a hypothetical moveset subpage. It's almost like splitting Rest into Melee and Brawl/Sm4sh pages. The only difference is that the moves have different English (not even Japanese) names in this case.  Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 13:11, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

I get that it's significantly similar, but I wouldn't say it's the same as splitting the same move into two. If the two moves have different knockback, which I actually don't know if they do for myself, it'd make sense to split them. I'd say the fire and the hilt mechanic are almost enough to differentiate the two but differing knockback would seal the deal. I'll retract my oppose due to my ignorance of that. MuteSpittah (talk) 13:32, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
Boomerang and Gale Boomerang might be a better comparison, then.  Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 13:35, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
Nah, this is more like Fox Illusion and Falco Phantasm. Two different moves from two different characters with enough properties to be differentiated. Sucks I don't have Smash with me to test if the knockback is different. MuteSpittah (talk) 13:39, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
I can see a case for merging those pages, too. Half of the differences are frame data.  Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 16:12, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
Support They are almost identical moves, and as Nyargle said, the Japanese names are the same. Penro    13:29, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
Are you kidding me? any special moves mixed together is a bad idea, thats like mixing Dr. Mario with Mario just because they both have mario in there names  Poultry (talk) the Team Liquid 14:51, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
This discussion is literally the opposite of your hypothetical situation. These moves are similar in everything but name.  Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 16:12, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
Strong oppose per Miles. The moves are different enough in my opinion to warrant their own separate pages. Serpent   King 20:37, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
I'd like to ask, what's the benefit of merging? What is there to add with a merge? Roy and Marth are two different characters with significant differences in SSB4. I think it fits to have this and Dancing Blade being kept separate. I get it with Marth and Lucina who have near-identical movesets save for a few properties. I really only see a merge unnecessarily bulking up the Dancing Blade page. What's the purpose in merging - OCD satiation, coherence, consistency? MuteSpittah (talk) 04:45, 12 April 2016 (EDT)
Consistency, mostly.  Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 06:37, 12 April 2016 (EDT)

As the one who proposed this merge, I have no strong opinion one way or the other. This proposal was motivated by two main reasons:

  • the Electroshock/Upperdash Arm merge. So yeah, consistency.
  • the two moves having the exact same Japanese name, which means they are considered the same in the original version. If the English version had kept the same name for both, what would the general opinion be?

Then again:

  • not every similar move is in the same page even across (semi)clones with similar customs (Luigi Cyclone and Dr. Tornado, for example, which even have comparable customs).
  • I feel what is currently done with Silver Bow and Electroshock Arm (having a named subsection) is kind of clumsy, though it can be solved my some minor reorganization. -Menshay (talk) 10:19, 12 April 2016 (EDT)

Oppose The two have enough information to keep them separate. Dots (talk)   The Operator 21:14, 12 April 2016 (EDT)

Oppose. I really don't see a good reason. MuteSpittah (talk) 22:03, 12 April 2016 (EDT)

Merge 2Edit

Oppose Different knockback, different English names, and the fact that this deals Flame damage (in Roy's case) are enough to keep these separate, IMO. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Sonic Fan Leave a message if needed 21:12, March 27, 2019 (EDT)

While I am indifferent to a merging, I'd like to point out that all three points of yours can be countered by Electroshock Arm - different knockback (to the side rather than upwards), different English name (and Japanese, for that matter), and it deals electric damage rather than normal damage. Aidan, the Irish Rurouni 21:47, March 27, 2019 (EDT)
Electroshock Arm is actually being disused on the general proposals to be separated from Upperdash Arm for those exact reasons you stated. In fact, it was decided on that page not that long ago that Double-Edge Dance should not be merged. Wolff (talk) 21:54, March 27, 2019 (EDT)
Strong oppose Per Awesomelink234.   White Lightning   16:02, April 1, 2019 (EDT)

Oppose: If we're merging things that are similar, by that logic, we should merge Peach and Daisy or Pit and Dark Pit, since they only have minor differences between the two. My point being, unless if two things are exactly 100% the same without no differences whatsoever, they shouldn't be merged.
