Ownership

So, just to clarify, Bayonetta's a third party, right? Laniv (talk) 17:54, 15 December 2015 (EST)

Yeah, Sega owns the franchise AFAIK. Nyargleblargle.pngNyargleblargle (Contribs) 17:55, 15 December 2015 (EST)
Definitely. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by SANTY CLAWS! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 17:56, 15 December 2015 (EST)
They own publishing rights. Its technically PlatinumGames's series, however since Sega published the first entry in the series solo, they co own it. Bayonetta 2 is also partially owned by Nintendo due to them funding the second games development.
Ixbran (talk) 17:57, 15 December 2015 (EST)
Yeah she's Sega and Platinum's. Nintendo has some hold over the second Bayonetta game due to them funding it and an agreement with Platinum (which probably resulted in her playable cameo in Wonderful 101), but its still mostly Platinum's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SilverSupernova (talkcontribs) 10:27, 15 December 2015
Here's the basic gist: SEGA owns the IP, Platinum owns the development. AidanzapunkChristmasSig.pngAidan, the Jolly Space WarriorAidanzapunkChristmasSig2.png 10:31, 17 December 2015 (EST)
So its like SE's Relationship with disney in regards to the KH series, right. I dunno the fact that Sega nearly ended the series simply because they didn't want to fund it, and then goes around to work on the Sonic boom series, really irks me. I really wish Nintendo would buy the IP from Sega.
Ixbran (talk) 03:00, 19 December 2015 (EST)

Sorry to bring back a dead topic, but this was pointed out on GameFAQ's and I wanted to bring it to your attention. According to the official DLC site for smash Bros. Most characters are usually listed being copyright their companies owners. IE Ryu is copyright Capcom, and cloud is copyright SE. But for Bayonetta it says copyright Nintendo and Sega. Does this sort of make her a Second Party character, like Shulk, or does this keep her purely third party?
Ixbran (talk) 01:47, 31 January 2016 (EST)

My theory is that it's a case of Sega owning the IP and Nintendo owning some of the rights to the Bayonetta 2-specific elements, like Bayonetta's new design. I'd say the character still counts as 3rd party, though, since Sega isn't a subsidiary the way Intelligent Systems and Monolith Soft are. Miles (talk) 01:49, 31 January 2016 (EST)
Ahh, alrighty I just wanted to make sure before making any edits. Feb 3rd cant get here sooner 👄✨💖

Human?

In her infobox it says she's a human, even though she's clearly an Umbra Witch. |:/ --72.250.149.164 10:51, 31 December 2015 (EST)

It was my understanding that an Umbra Witch is a clan, not a species.
Although, I would agree that calling her human is a little bit of a stretch. Might be better to just leave species blank. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 10:54, 31 December 2015 (EST)
Bayonetta Wiki says Umbra Witches was a clan, witch which Bayonetta is descended from.
That said, there's nothing on her page over there that states what species she is... AidanzapunkChristmasSig.pngAidan, the Jolly Space WarriorAidanzapunkChristmasSig2.png 10:59, 31 December 2015 (EST)
I'll just remove it for now until we can get a Bayonetta expert who doesn't just use Bayonetta Wiki in :P ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 11:02, 31 December 2015 (EST)
Check him/her about this. 98.157.202.185 11:37, 31 December 2015 (EST)
Umbra witches are essentially humans with supernatural powers. The Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages are essentially types of religion. the Umbra worship Inferno, and are granted its power due to their devotion, and the Lumen are the same with Paradiso. Bayonetta is even called human many times by the angels and demons she fights. The title of Umbra Witch is just that: a title. One that is earned through years of training and staying devoted to the Umbra Faith and way of life. To say her species is an Umbra, and not Human, would be like telling someone of the Christian Faith they aren't human because they are Christian.
Ixbran (talk) 21:16, 3 January 2016 (EST)
So then we know she's not an Umbra Witch, but is there technically any evidence that she is human? There are a lot of characters who look human but aren't. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 21:18, 3 January 2016 (EST)
what part of "Bayonetta is even called human many times by the angels and demons she fights." do you not understand?
Ixbran (talk) 21:21, 3 January 2016 (EST)
crap sorry I somehow skimmed past that part. Carry on ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 21:24, 3 January 2016 (EST)

Infernal Climax Trophy

I noticed in the SSB4 section there's an image of the Infernal Climax trophy. However, I noticed that (after checking 3-5 more character pages) no other character has their Final Smash Trophy shown. Is there a specific reason for Bayonetta's, or should we just remove it? AmoongussForLife AmoongussForLife's signature.pngTalk 14:30, 12 March 2016 (EST)

I think they're supposed to have an image. Why not type this in? {{image|Trophy}} Unowninator (talk) 14:33, 12 March 2016 (EST)

Probably shouldn't be there. Feel free to remove other Final Smash trophies from general character pages like this. Miles (talk) 14:34, 12 March 2016 (EST)

Huh? Why not? I personally like them there, especially since I don't intend to complete All-Star Mode with every single character. Unowninator (talk) 14:39, 12 March 2016 (EST)

It was removed for the sake of consistency, but each character could have them consistently on their page as it does pertain to the character and it would be nice to see them on the character page. MuteSpittah (talk) 14:41, 12 March 2016 (EST)
It's not a trophy "of Bayonetta", it's a trophy of the Final Smash itself (and is already included on the Infernal Climax page). I'm not really sure why it's needed here. Miles (talk) 14:45, 12 March 2016 (EST)
It's no need, but neither are the other trophies. It depicts her performing one of her moves in Smash like her Alt trophies, that goes for all the characters. I don't care much either way as it's all a click away, but I just brought it up as a suggestion. MuteSpittah (talk) 15:01, 12 March 2016 (EST)

Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls category

what is with this annoying category, and how on earth do you get rid of it?

Obscurity

On Bayonetta's page, I think we should address that she is an obscure character. Kaithehedgefox (talk) 21:40, March 6, 2021 (EST)

It's not really appropriate for us to call anything obscure (and Bayonetta really isn't anyway). Miles (talk) 21:49, March 6, 2021 (EST)
2 million copies sold across Bayo 1 & 2 isn't that obscure. NieR: Automata PlatinumGames' best seller and the talk of 2017 sold 5 million, only 2.5 times more than Bayo. --CanvasK (talk) 21:50, March 6, 2021 (EST)
