Where does this name come from? Regardless, is this notable enough to not be merged into Subspace Emissary and/or the level it appears on? Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 02:52, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
- It seems to be, like Quark Mines, Trackballs, Smash Skiff and Spaceshifting Wormholes, named by Toomai. I think that the gas itself merits a page, though I'm not sure what it should be named. Just naming things ourselves is kinda presumptuous, though I suppose it's done regularly with combos and techniques and the like. Miles (talk) 02:58, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't name the Smash Skiff, but yeah, the other ones (and this one) I made up. "Amaranthine" is just a word that means "purple"; it makes it actually sound interesting. I mean, if Nintendo doesn't tell us what to call things, and we want to talk about them, someone has to give it a name. If someone else had come along first and called it something like "Toxic vapour", and there wasn't any evidence that anyone else had called it anything yet, that's what the page would be titled. - "Amaranthine gas" might mean "Purple gas", but it could be misunderstood as meaning "the element Amaranthine in gaseous phase", and seeing as it's toxic and ends "ine", people could mistake it for being a halide, like Fluorine, Chlorine, Iodine, Bromine and Astatine, all of which also end "ine" and are toxic. The previous sentence is the only reason I can think of as to why this page shouldn't be called "Amaranthine gas" - the following are reasons why it should keep the name: a) Nintendo didn't give it an official name, and we have to call it something; b) if Nintendo had given it an official name, they probably would have called it something like "Amaranthine gas", and they almost certainly wouldn't have called it "Purple gas"; because c) "Amaranthine" sounds cool and mysterious, whereas "Purple" sounds boring and dull. Is this really a proper noun? The title is literally "purple gas". I'm not sure why "Gas" needs to be capitalized. I understand Quark Mine, since "Quark" wasn't an adjective, just a random title that Toomai decided to give. But here, "Amaranthine" (A synonym of "purple") is an adjective, therefore this is not a proper noun (similar to "up tilt", or "down smash"). Mr. Anon (talk) 14:08, 4 August 2011 (EDT)

- But Dark Cannon has the "C" capitalized because "Dark Cannon" is the object's official name, and that is how Sakurai spelled it on the Dojo and in trophies. Amaranthine gas, on the otherhand, was Toomai's name for the substance. Mr. Anon (talk) 20:52, 4 August 2011 (EDT)
- I understand that, but you still have to consider the fact that dark is an adjective, just as amaranthine is one. But, other than that, to be perfectly honest, I am unable to form a stable argument against moving it back, so do as you please if you are dissatisfied with the current title. I won't mind.
