DK's resemblance to a yetiEdit

I don't really see how that's relevant just because it says so on the DOJO!! Neither do we strive for being an exact replica of that site, nor for serving as Sakurai's biography. – SmiddleT 13:43, 18 July 2011 (EDT)

Agree. Forbidden7  13:45, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
What does the Dojo prove at all? --FireEmblemFan275 (talk) 15:40, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
Nothing really. Omega Tyrant   16:28, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
Well, we can't just put "resembles a yeti" (that links more to the real world without citation from the DOJO!!). If we can do that, then we can also put "Squirtle's green palette makes him look more like a turtle". Not saying it necessarily needs to be put back, but it's better to remove the whole yeti thing than to just keep part of it. Blue Ninjakoopa(Talk) 22:33, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
Agreed. When I made that edit I was a little dubious to it myself, actually. The only thing I wanted to do was getting rid of the "according to the Dojo". If the only reason that the fact was pointed out was how it was written on the Dojo, then it should rather not be there at all. – SmiddleT 06:12, 19 July 2011 (EDT)

We need to archiveEdit

DK white costume proofEdit

Exactly the point. Blue Ninjakoopa(Talk) 00:06, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
I don't see any necessity in pointing out what every palette swap happens to look like. Better just show what every palette swap is based on, if anything. – SmiddleT 06:15, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
What is it based on then? Care to show us, buddy? --FireEmblemFan275 (talk) 22:51, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
Not every palette swap is necessarily based off of something. Omega Tyrant   22:56, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
I never said that every palette swap is based off of something. --FireEmblemFan275 (talk) 23:06, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
Your 22:51, 22 July 2011 post implied as such. DoctorPain99 {ROLLBACKER} 23:36, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
I was asked him what it was based on. It implied absolutely nothing. If your going to lie then try harder at it. --FireEmblemFan275 (talk) 21:37, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
It's possible that he's referring to what I said. I never said that every palette swap is based on something. Notice the "if anything" part at the end. – SmiddleT 19:37, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

Light Blue or Cyan?Edit

Should we use light blue or cyan in the following sentence:

Light Blue: A Light Blue* Yoshi.

*This links to the Cyan Yoshi article on the Mariowiki. --107.5.57.137 19:14, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

The Melee one was clearly cyan, but this one's a little harder. I'd say cyan though. Smiddle 君怒る? 19:16, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
I don't feel that it has to be changed, though. I mean, it wouldn't be incorrect to refer to him as "light blue". Smiddle 君怒る? 19:17, 9 August 2011 (EDT)
The palette names go by the colors seen in Brawl's tournament mode. Yoshi's indeed shows up as cyan, and in the main series the official name for that color Yoshi is Cyan Yoshi. So it's safe to change it to Cyan, which is what I'm gonna do. Furthermore, I'm going to do this for all the articles (well, Melee's and Brawl's). My references are the tournament modes of said games. When you change colors for the characters, their name changes to the color you want your character to be (ex. Regular Mewtwo is Purple. I'm going to make sure the pages don't say anything like "Violet" or "Royal Blue") (in Brawl, there is a tab that changes color as you change your character's color). If you'll excuse me. glitchEdit

Here's a way to make all characters the same character and color scheme without shading.

  1. P1- choose a character and color scheme
  2. P2- choose that same character
  3. P1- turn to N/A
  4. P2- change to color scheme that P1 was using
  5. Turn Team Battle on
  6. P1- turn to human
  7. Turn Team Battle off

DKC two diddies and two Donkey Kongs?Edit

Hithere. I read that both DKs' palette swap sections say that they are based on player 2 from Donkey Kong Country when the same Kong is selected, but I don't recall being able to do so! Actually I pureposelly read some faqs and they all say P1 is Donkey and P2 is Diddy in DKC while P1 is Diddy and P2 is Dixie in DKC2. So to me those statements are just spam. Then, maybe I am the DK-noob, eh.--Kombatgod (talk) 20:24, 7 January 2012 (EST)

R.O.B. in StartropicsEdit

I deleted the sentence stating that R.O.B.'s blue outfit is based on his appearance in StarTropics. Here's a pic from the game:

[1]

He looks all but blue! I'd say the pink outfit is more similar, but still that one's probably just based on the US SNES.--Kombatgod (talk) 11:09, 18 January 2012 (EST)

Since this issue has been brought to the forefront by this edit, I propose taking a closer look at whether R.O.B. actually resembles his StarTropics incarnation. The image I found is less pink and more blue than the one above it:

File numbersEdit

Are these really necessary? This is not a hacking guide, and I find it to be unnecessary clutter for the average reader. Miles (talk) 15:10, 26 May 2013 (EDT)

I think I agree with Miles. I have no problem with including them, but the way it's done on the page makes it looks cluttered. DoctorPain99  15:37, 26 May 2013 (EDT)

Samus's color pallet swap influencesEdit

Samus's gravity suit in super metroid was magenta as seen here http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w1BvKmuJQSk/T80J84gukMI/AAAAAAAASZw/gPSvXw1LD-w/s400/Super+Metroid_00044.bmp not purple, it is much closer to the pink color in brawl 24.218.161.224 14:35, 27 December 2013 (EST)

Her green color is not based on anything the power suit sprite in super metroid is clearly yellow. 24.218.161.224 14:35, 27 December 2013 (EST)

That looks more purple than pink to me. Omega Tyrant   14:44, 27 December 2013 (EST)
It seems more purple. I looked at this image instead since the other one you linked to has a lot of other colors (since they appear to be the same suits from the same game it's not like one image would display a different color for her suit). Using a color extractor, there was only a little pink in that image of her suit which were those really light spots on her armor (which makes sense since according to Wikipedia "Pink is a pale red color") and it was mostly shades of violet that made up the image and her suit (so it would be closer to purple than pink). Also, I'm not sure how it can be magenta, but closer to pink than purple? BRAWLS   OF  FURY 15:50, 27 December 2013 (EST)
Yep, it looks more purple. Scr7 (talk · contribs) 16:06, 27 December 2013 (EST)
the only part that looks even remotely similar to the purple color in brawl on that image is the shading, and that picture is actually darker than the player sprite, but still it's clearly magenta
if you think this & this show the same color gravity suit then you're colorblind 24.218.161.224 19:47, 27 December 2013 (EST)
You did not refute what Brawls of Fury said. Additionally, look at the image Miles posted on your talkpage, the official artwork of the gravity suit in Super Metroid, and what do you know, it looks exactly like the purple suit in Brawl, not the pink suit. Also, comparing a SNES sprite to a fully rendered model is bad form, considering the limitations of the SNES sprite does not allow it to look exactly like the model does.
Plus, regarding your colorblind comment, consider the proverb "if you think everyone else is the problem, you are likely the problem". I.e., everyone else is seeing the SNES sprite as more purple, you are the one who is having difficulty recognising colors, especially when BoF already proved it was more purple.
And for one more thing, do not post images directly on the talk page, it is not necessary and it breaks the formatting of the page. Omega Tyrant   20:48, 27 December 2013 (EST)

Fluff and falsehoodsEdit

Do not ignore this:

"A lot of that stuff is excessive fluff (for example, we don't need to point out other stuff black/white Kirby is in when it's just based off monochrome Kirby in the original)"

The monochrome Kirby and promotional Mario art note fall into the above. We just need to mention the original thing it's based off of, we don't need to go on a tangent and mention other things it appeared .

Now for the individual ones that are not true:

Here's black Olimar and the Pikmin President. There is no clear resemblance here whatsoever. The President's suit is all black, while Olimar's clearly a dark yellow with black gloves/boots. The President additionally does not have a darken helmet, and the President has distinct blue buttons while Olimar has nothing on his suit resembling it. Now to compare it to a clear resemblence, compare Olimar's blue outfit to Louie's, and Olimar has the same color suit, with the distinct blue gloves. So yeah, it is false to say Olimar's black outfit resembles the President.

Now for blue Charizard. It says his blue color resembles his shiny from Gen 2. Compare this to this. The gen 2 shiny is clearly a solid purple, it is not a blue tint like the "blue" Charizard has in Brawl. Additionally, the gen 2 shiny has a green coloration under his wings, while the blue Charizard has a dark blue. So again, this is another falsehood, it's a tremendous stretch to say this is supposed to be a resemblance, especially when blue Charizard is filling a generic team color and fits in with Charizard's other palette theme of tinging him with the supposed color.

Now for white Charizard. It says it resembles the shiny of his preevolutions. Compare it to this and this. The white palette simply tinges Charizard with a dull white. The shinies on the other hand, are a clear golden bright yellow. Saying this is a resemblance is a big stretch, and is not at all obvious.

Now for blue Squirtle. It says it resembles his Pokemon Yellow coloration. Compare it to this. It has the blue shell, but that's it. The Yellow sprite has the same light blue skin, while blue Squirtle is clearly a darker blue. Blue Squirtle has yellow on its shell edges, while Yellow sprite has white. The same color shell is clearly just a coincidence, especially when Squirtle's other palettes changes his shell color to match the palette color.

Now Miles, how about you actually compare them yourself when I said they were falsehoods, before just reverting me? Or you know, actually bring it up on the talkpage for once instead just reverting? This talkpage is here for a reason you know. Omega Tyrant   15:29, 17 March 2014 (EDT)

Ness Yellow ColorschemeEdit

I feel that the note about how it resembles the Hanshin Tigers Uniform should be removed because, color wise (based on my 1 AM eyes), the resemblance is a pretty small coincidence that wasn't necessarily planned at all, while design wise, vertical lines are definitely not horizontal lines. Unless Sakurai or the people behind Brawl are major Hanshin Tigers fans, this resemblance note doesn't belong. MegaTron1XD  04:11, 5 July 2014 (EDT)

We only included it because of this. I think it's worth noting (barely). Miles (talk) 08:18, 5 July 2014 (EDT)

Costume ColorsEdit

There is a tool that was used during the development of Project M called cBliss. I was messing around with it a couple of days ago and found out that when editing the costumes, it tells you the internal color of the costume. Would the colors from the tool be the right colors to list here or should we keep the originals? Jamescamden05 (talk) 15:04, 16 February 2017 (EST)

I've seen a lot of Brawl code and have never seen anything that looks like an "internal colour". I remain open to being wrong, but I downloaded this cBliss and didn't find any colour names in any of the files. In addition, changing anything would mean renaming all the head icons. It's likely things will stay the way they are. Toomai Glittershine   The Incomperable 19:16, 16 February 2017 (EST)

Dry Bowser?Edit

Since Brawl, the white/gray Bowser alternate costume for him has a resemblance to Dry Bowser, which Nintendo also confirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.47.214.156 (talkcontribs) 17:14, November 9, 2021‎

First, sign your posts, and second, you need to give a reference to your submissions like a link to picture or where have Nintendo have confirmed such information. DoctaShield (talk) 18:13, March 30, 2022 (EDT)
In retrospective this could be a possibility as New Super Mario Bros. was a relatively recent game (one of Mario taunts is based of the level clear animation) but also is not that acurate as most of Bowser's scales are a dark gray while the shell is white, which is the opposite of what Dry Bowser's look have, plus, the cuffs? are dark red, something that this costume does not have. Meanwhile in Ultimate is currently inspired by Morton Koopa Jr. in his desing from SMB3 which is bit more plausible besides the dark brown skin. DoctaShield (talk) 20:23, March 30, 2022 (EDT)

EarthBound/Mother Series: any thoughts on this?Edit

This a bit of my thoughts about some of the alt. colors for both characters of the Mother series.

NESS

The Blue alt. also could be added his pajamas as they are also the same colors as his younger self (plus stripes). Another possible inspiration or nod for blue with purple in this alt. are the Happy Happyist cult, a cult that created a religion around the color blue, and while they do paint stuff color blue (this houses and this cow for example), the sprite of the Insane Cultists sprites (and even the roof of the houses, I just noticed) are color purple. Are they important? kind of, after all, they were influenced by Pokey/Porky and Gygas to kidnap Paula, Ness, yet-to-be party member.

For somtheing new, the Purple alt. could be inspired by Picky Minch, Pokey/Porky's little bother. Is he important? Well besides being the little brother of a villan in the making, at the start of the game he gets lost after the meteorite crash. After finding him, Buzz-Buzz appears from the meteorite stating the prophecy that Ness and 3 friends (2 male, 1 female) will save the world from Gygas putting in march the adventure. After it, Picky is the only one to be at home (Ness neightbor) and keeps being nice to him, he even appears after the game ends to give Ness a letter from Pokey/Porky. Also his sprite shows the letter "M", where the "Mr. Saturn" sprite is (oh!).

LUCAS

The Red alt. might be inspired by the two types of zombies encountered by Duster in Chapter 2 of Mother 3, the Zombie Lady (resembling Hinawa, Lucas and Claus mother) and Zombie Man (resembling Claus), for the latter, the pants of this type are similarly close to the teal color that this alt. have, on the other hand the Zombie Lady wears a red dress, similar to this alt. shirt. Story wise they appear before Duster in Chapter 2 in a group, by the end of Chapter 1 both Hinawa and Claus are considered dead, and this zombies kind of taunt Duster because they (Hinawa and Claus) are dead and Duster is not. If this is true, it have been carried over to Smash 4 and Ultimate.

The Green alt. could still be the one in Smash 4 and Ultimate but without the Boney print and kept the orange stripes (or rather, appeared here and reworked to only feature a set of stripes on the sleeves and put Boney's print). To quote: "Resembles Boney's human disguise from Mother 3".

The Purple alt. could loosely resemble another duo of enemies in Mother 3, there is an enemy named Li'l Big Bro (color green) and another called Big Bro (either color pink or light violet), which later can be encountered as Bro Team, having Big Bro standing on top of Li'l Big Bro, aka green pants, and pink on top. I think this is a possible color in nod of the sibling relationship between Lucas and Claus (the Masked Man) in Mother 3. On a side note, Big Bro knows PSI Fire and PSI Freeze (PSI=PK), which Big Bro can use as they can attack twice; which are also both PSI moves that Lucas uses in Smash Bros. . This color later became the one with the Drago print and only a set of stripes on the sleeves. DoctaShield (talk) 17:31, July 29, 2022 (EDT)
