A stage prefix is the prefix of a stage's name. The stage prefix was introduced in Super Smash Bros. Melee, which used the locations of the stages. Super Smash Bros. Brawl and subsequent games instead use game or series designations for stages. There are no stage prefixes in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

The following is a list of stage prefixes in Melee, Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Trivia[edit]

  • Uniquely, Mushroom Kingdom and Mushroom Kingdom II lack prefixes in Melee, as shown in the Random Stage Select. However, they are formatted as "Mushroom Kingdom" and "Mushroom Kingdom II" on the stage selection screen.
  • Due to the large number of Past Stages in Ultimate, the only stages in the series to never receive a prefix are Planet Zebes, Sector Z, Pac-Maze, and Rainbow Road.
  • While Skyworld's prefix is always Kid Icarus, the English logo has changed in every game.
    • Its appearance in Brawl is based on the logo for Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, with the subtitle removed.
    • Its appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is likewise based on the logo for Kid Icarus Uprising, again with the subtitle removed.
    • Its appearance in Ultimate is the logo taken from the American NES box art.
  • Woolly World uses the beta logo for Yoshi's Woolly World in its stage prefix, due to the game not being released at the time of for Wii U's launch.
  • In the April 2014 Super Smash Bros. Direct, Skyloft's stage prefix is, presumably by mistake, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U itself.
