This article is about the first installment of a tournament series. For the series, see Tournament:Smash Summit (series).

Smash Summit was a national Super Smash Bros. Melee invitational tournament held in Los Angeles, California from November 5th-8th, 2015 by Beyond the Summit, an eSports company known for their Dota 2 coverage. Singles, doubles and side events for Melee were hosted. It was an invitational tournament, where 10 of the world's top players were invited to participate, along with 6 players who were selected from a player donation poll organized by Start.gg. The tournament was held at the Summit gaming house, a private residence, and so was not open to the general public.

The following players were invited to the Smash Summit through player voting donations.

Players eliminatedEdit

From a selection of roughly 40 players, 20 of them were voted in by fans to engage in an elimination round where, by a certain date, if a player did not receive enough votes, they were eliminated and thus did not receive an invitation from Smash Summit. In later rounds, the players who received the most votes were invited in addition to the eliminations.

Declined playersEdit

Some players, though either invited to the Summit directly or nominated for the Player Voting rounds, declined their offers due to unavailability. Players like Professor Pro, aMSa, and Abate declined nominations for the voting round. Hungrybox was the only player who declined direct invitation due to work conflict pre-voting. After the voting, it was revealed that Leffen could not attend due to the same Visa issues that prevented him from attending The Big House 5. As a result, the Summit Staff replaced him with who they deemed the next best player in the world, Shroomed, who was eliminated in Round 5 of the voting round.

Day 1 Full Results
Day 2 Full Results

In the two day Challenge Round (November 5th-6th), each player was given $250. Per each day, players were given one challenge each where they could challenge any other player to a Duel match, a Low-Tier match, a Mine match, or a Bro-Up match. After the two days, the total amount of money remaining for each player would consist of each player's winnings.

  • A Duel match would simply consist of a classic Best of Three singles match under the SBR ruleset. Both players put down $50 and the winner takes all.
  • A Bro-Up match would consist of a classic Best of Three doubles match under the SBR ruleset. After all redirects are complete, both the challenger and the challengee can choose any partner of his choice (partners can decline to participate). The challenger puts down $75 while the challengee puts down $50 (partners are not forced to put anything down). The winning challenger/challengee receives $100 while his partner receives $25.
  • A Mine match can only be initiated by players who have $0. The challenger can only choose the four players who have the most money. While the challenge is a Best of Three singles match, the challengee can choose any stage for their games, including banned stages. If the challenger wins, he receives $50. If the challengee wins, he does not receive any money.

If a player was challenged, he can redirect the challenge to another player up to two times per day, where the redirected player is not allowed to redirect and is forced to play. A player can only be challenged up to three times per day (redirects count as challenges).
