SmashWiki:Requests for adminship/Erik the Appreciator

Erik the AppreciatorEdit

Up until now I prefered not to run for the position of SmashWiki sysop because sysop powers are generally useful for deleting bad content/pages and combatting vandals, which don't seem so helpful to a user that specializes in adding content only like what I've been doing. But I was recently notified that with all the edits and page rewrites I routinely do, I come across as a user who's achieved sysop status already (or at least must be in some sort of prestigious position among SmashWiki users), which is apparently a cause for confusion among people who mistakenly assume I'm a sysop when in fact I'm still technically a "typical" user. Since I don't actually have an opinion against the sysop position, I'm responding to this concern (and a lot of warm encouragement by other users) by posting my SmashWiki user account here for consideration. (Sorry if I sound dead technical here, but this is a place for aspiring users to show off their "professionalism", right? ^_^)

As a user on any wiki, I am a specialist in adding content. For this wiki, I'm tempted to blow my own horn and declare that I pretty much wrote the whole empire of Universe-related articles, and in doing so I pretty much laid out how SmashWiki "general" articles on characters and things from games should be structured (first a "Character/Location/Object/Franchise description", then an "In Super Smash Bros." section with appropriate "As a character/stage element/item" subsections, then an "In Super Smash Bros. Melee" section with appropriate subsections, and finally an "In Super Smash Bros. Brawl" section with appropriate subsections for that character/property). Everything I do on the wiki I apply careful thought and consideration to beforehand, during, and even afterward, 'cause that's just in my nature as someone who's been on Wikipedia for over two years now (and never applied for adminship for). And I'm always open to ideas that others might have whenever there's a situation that I advocate a solution for but they might say they have a better solution for.

In the event I'm actually awarded sysop status on SmashWiki, I can assure everyone that I don't plan on changing my current editing focus because of it. My focus is on making and maintaining pages like Mario (universe), Ike, List of Pokemon, Smash Bros. DOJO!! updates, and so on, and I don't really have anything to do with "gameplay pages" like Mario (SSBB) and Wavedash and the many articles on Smashers and their crews. (I also hope people won't throw too much responsibility onto me for blocking users and deleting bad pages as that would take away from my focus.) And right now I have it figured out that there would be some Sysop powers that would be useful to me in doing my normal editing, such as deleting images (to delete images I uploaded previously and reupload them with better titles) and restoring deleted articles relevant to my focus (though there's no pages like that I can think of for the moment...).--Erik, Lord of Universes 15:36, January 18, 2008 (EST)

Erik would make a great Sysop, as he is always editing articles, helping other users, and providing information to other users and articles. As he said, much people confusinf with a Sysop due to his work, He is also keeping track of the updates that he edit here and also clean up articles.--Fandangox 15:47, January 18, 2008 (EST)
He's most certainly got my vote. Of all of the current candidates, he's easily the most qualified and experienced for a sysop position. – EP (TalkEdits) 21:43, January 18, 2008 (EST)
Support, Erik's done a great job of handling issues with a calm manner and helped created useful templates.--Magiciandude 10:51, January 20, 2008 (EST)
Erik's not a sysop?! Geez, I guess I'm one of those people you mentioned who are fooled by your edits and all-around... what's a good adjective for being a really good member for a Wiki... Wikiness? Well, any way you put it, I support Erik for sysop, even if I thought he was one already.--Teamrocketspy621 20:05, February 4, 2008 (EST)
I Support. I've seen all the images on Smashwiki, and a good 40% of them were uploaded by him. He is also among the editors who actually abide by the fair-use policy as stated by the license. He's a great image editor, and we could use him as a sysop. --Misken67 05:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
