Article on Super Mario Wiki Princess Peach

Princess Peach (ピーチ姫, Princess Peach), also known as Princess Toadstool, or just Peach, is a character from the Mario universe, and is usually seen as Mario's damsel in distress. She has been known as "Princess Peach" since Yoshi's Safari; prior to that, she was known as "Princess Toadstool" outside of Japan.

Character description

Princess Peach has been a mainstream Mario character since her first appearance in Super Mario Bros., in which Mario had to rescue her from the clutches of the evil Bowser. She usually takes on the role of the damsel-in-distress, though she has been known to help out Mario on several occasions. For example, in Super Princess Peach, it's her turn to save Mario, Luigi and Toad from Bowser. Her first playable appearance, however, was in Super Mario Bros. 2, where she had to help save the dream land called Subcon along with Mario, Luigi and Toad. She has also appeared in Mario spinoffs such as Mario Party, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, etc..

In Super Smash Bros.

While Peach is briefly mentioned in Mario's biography, and one of the stages is Peach's Castle, she physically does not appear in the game in any capacity. A popular rumor claims she was planned to be playable in the game along with Bowser, King Dedede, Mewtwo, and many other characters, before being cut for space/time constraints. However, unlike the aforementioned three characters, no definitive official source has ever been found that proves Peach was ever planned to be included as a playable character.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Peach appears as one of the fifteen default characters available in Melee. She is based on her early appearance from the Nintendo 64 era, notably Super Mario 64. Peach is considered by professional players to be amongst the best characters in the game, and so is sixth place in the current Tier list.

Trophies

As a playable character, Peach has three trophies, each available by defeating Classic Mode, Adventure and All-Star modes. Her main trophy, obtained by clearing Classic mode, reads as follows:

Peach
Princess Peach presides over the Mushroom Kingdom from her huge castle. Her loyal subject Toad does his best to protect her but always seems to fail spectacularly. Besides her royal duties, Peach is interested in both tennis and golf; since she's so magnanimous, she'll even deign to play a few matches with the evil Bowser.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Peach returns as a veteran to Brawl, with a design based on her recent appearance elsewhere, notably Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Party 4, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Super Mario Galaxy. Her moves have been virtually unchanged from Melee, with a few minor enhancements and nerfs. Her Final Smash attack, Peach Blossom, involves her lulling all grounded opponents to sleep and deals damage as well. Samantha Kelly, her current voice actress voices Peach.

Peach suffered quite a large nerf from Melee to Brawl, but is still ranked average (19th on the tier list in C- tier).

Trophies

Additionally, Peach appears as multiple trophies in the game:

Peach
The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Her long blond hair is a perfect match for her pink dress. Regardless of the number of Toad retainers she has, she's often kidnapped by Bowser. Though she's usually the damsel in distress, she got a starring role in Super Princess Peach, where it was her turn to rescue Mario and Luigi.

NES: Super Mario Bros.
Nintendo DS: Super Princess Peach

Paper Peach
The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. With her sparkling crown and gorgeous blond hair, Peach always looks the part, even when flat as paper. Count Bleck kidnaps the princess and tries to force her to marry Bowser. While jumping, Peach can use a special umbrella technique that allows her to float down gently or reach otherwise inaccessible places.

Wedding Peach
The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom adorned in a pure white wedding dress rather than her usual pink one. Peach also has her long blond hair drawn up in a ponytail. And who might she be marrying? Bowser of all people, who was also forced into the marriage by the scandalous Count Bleck. Brainwashed by Nastasia, Peach is even forced into giving her vows.

Main article: Peach (SSB4)

Peach was confirmed to be playable in Super Smash Bros. 4 on September 12, 2013. She is the third female character to be announced for the game after Samus and Wii Fit Trainer. Her facial structure appears more similar to her home series than past Smash Bros. appearances and her dress has been made more stylized and less detailed. Her hair is also lighter and more brightly-shaded. She now has new attack effects, such as a ribbon swirling around her during her up smash. Like Mario, Luigi and Bowser, her design is based on her appearance from recent Mario games such as Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8.

Peach was buffed overall in the transition from Brawl to SSB4. Her ground game has been improved thanks to stronger smashes and a faster Peach Bomber. Her forward aerial, dash attack, and back throw were also given more knockback, granting better KO options. However, her Vegetable special was moderately nerfed, as they take longer to pluck, weakening her projectile game. Her slow movement speed also gives her a disadvantage against fast characters, and her light weight and floatiness makes her easy to launch. Nonetheless, Peach ranks 21st out of 58 on the tier list in B tier. While viewed as a solid pick for competitive play, she lacks noteworthy tournament results to speak of, even with her few dedicated players.

Trophies

Peach

North America Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach continues to prove that "powerful" and "cute" are not mutually exclusive. In Smash Bros., Peach uses her dress to float above the fray, suddenly descending and attacking with numerous weapons. A frying pan? Umbrella? TOAD?! Where does she keep it all?
Europe The Mushroom Kingdom's princess isn't just a pretty face - she's also strong and crafty. She can dodge attacks by gliding through the air, and she's hiding all sorts of stuff under that dress: a frying pan, a tennis, a golf club...even a Toad! If you're planning to take on Peach, just know that she's more than ready for you!

Peach (Alt.)

North America Peach may be a princess, but that doesn't mean she shies away from an honest day's work. Her down special Vegetable is basically farm labor, and the fruits...er, vegetables of her work can be thrown. An angry-looking vegetable will do extra damage, too! She can also pull up Bob-ombs, or even a Mr. Saturn!
Europe Peach normally sticks to tasks befitting a royal, but her Vegetable special is pretty much farm labour! You can tell how much damage the veggies will do by looking a them. Happy/indifferent ones just do a bit, while the ones that just look sick of life do a lot. And the ones that look like Bob-ombs or Mr. Saturn aren't veggies at all!

North America Princess Peach, where are you off to with that pink parasol? A day at the beach? More like a day at the races! Her tough and unconventional karts are ready, and she wants to take the checkered flag. Expect to see Peach win and be elegant at the same time.
Europe The next race is about to start, but who's going to come out on top? Will it be Peach, with her lovely Peach Parasol? She's customised her kart to be both tough AND cute, because she's not just aiming to win - she's aiming to win in style!

You may think it doesn't look like a racer. You may think it would look more at home on a carousel. But Peach will have the last laugh as she sails past the finish line, leaving you in the dust. Baby Peach

North America Princess Peach is cute to begin with, and she only gets cuter as a baby. Unlike Princess Peach, Baby Peach is more fond of her pink binky than of conversation. Despite this lack of communication, she makes for a great partner in sporting events!
Europe Princess Peach is always cute, but as a baby, she's even cuter! And that crown on her head isn't a giant crown - it's just that every bit of her is teeny tiny! Still, she's not the kind to stay tied to her mum's apron strings - she's out there playing sports and keeping active with the best of them!

Paper Peach

North America Usually the Sticker Fest, sponsored by Princess Peach, is held without a problem. However, one year Bowser shows up to steal the Royal Stickers and ends up peeling off with Princess Peach! With your help, Mario must set out to stick things back in their proper place!
Europe Princess Peach is holding the Mushroom Kingdom's annual Sticker Fest to celebrate the Sticker Comet's arrival from the night sky, when Bowser turns up and totally wrecks EVERYTHING! Where's Peach been carried off to? And who's going to get her out of this sticky situation?

Peach (Tennis Outfit)

North America Peach brings an elegance and grace to tennis that her opponents are hard- pressed to match. Her skills with a racket can put the ball right where she wants it. How she and Baby Peach can play against each other without destroying space-time is the real question.
Europe Peach is so graceful with a racket in her hand, you'd think she was princess of the Tennis Kingdom! She specialises in aiming her shots at the very edge of the court, and it seems she has no problem playing alongside Baby Peach, even if that does raise a few space-time continuum issues.

Peach (Baseball)

North America The thought of yet another kidnapping is never far from Peach's mind, but in Mario Super Sluggers, she gets a nice break to just focus on the game. As the leader of the Peach Monarchs, she shows off her skills with her Star Swing, Heart Swing, drawing a heart in the air to distract the fielders.
Europe It's hard work getting kidnapped all the time, so it's good to see that Peach can take some time off from it to enjoy a bit of American cricket. As captain of the Peach Monarchs, she shows her skills with her special Heart Swing, drawing a heart in the air to try and distract the fielders trying to catch the ball.

Trivia

  • In all of her Smash Bros. appearances, Peach is depicted with a blue-gemmed ring on her left middle finger. The only time she has ever been seen wearing a ring in the Mario series is in Super Mario Sunshine, though even then the ring is a different color (red) and worn on the opposite hand.
  • In all Super Smash Bros. installments, Peach is more anatomically realistic than she is in the Mario series games. Her head is a bit smaller and she is slightly taller than she normally is in the Mario series. This contrast can be seen when viewing her Classic Mode trophies and her regular trophies from the Mario series.
  • Peach and Samus are the only characters with a team-based costume color (from Team Battle) that changes between games. Peach uses her regular pink dress in Melee when on the red team. In Brawl however, she uses a red dress instead.
  • Peach is the oldest playable female character in the Super Smash Bros. series, having debuted in September 1985 (Zelda would debut in Japan 5 months later).
