Merge.png It has been suggested that this article or section be merged with Kamek.
The reason given for the merge is: While Nintendo tends to be inconsistent whether "Kamek" is the name of a single Magikoopa or a generic term used for all Magikoopas, the only article-worthy appearances of Magikoopas in Smash (i.e. Smash Run enemy, Mushroom Kingdom U hazard, and Smash Tour item) are explicitly called Kamek.. Magikoopas (カメック, Kamek) are magical and powerful Koopas in the Mario series. A notable Magikoopa named Kamek is the main antagonist of the Yoshi series.

Origin

A Magikoopa casting a spell on Mario in Super Mario World.

Magikoopas made their debut in Super Mario World, where they teleport around and shoot magical blasts with their wand. The blasts look like a sparkly conglomeration of geometrical shapes and damage Mario on contact. They keep this behavior in later games such as Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World. Common Magikoopas, unlike their leader Kamek, rarely ride brooms.

Magikoopas appear as relatively tough enemies. They fly around on their brooms and move by teleporting around and swooping forwards. They attack by shooting either a single magical projectile or a trio of them (telegraphed by the Magikoopa doing two rotations) which lower a random stat on contact.

Trophy

The 3DS trophy of a Magikoopa seems to conflate the Magikoopa species with the individual Kamek; this is likely due to the fact that they share the same Japanese name. However, Kamek also appears in the Yoshi games while common Magikoopas are restricted to Mario games.

Kamek
North AmericaSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Kamek is a magic-wielding, robed figure usually seen riding on a broomstick in the Mario series. He teleports around the stage, looking for fighters. When he finds one, he'll cast spells at them. If he hits you with one, your stats will drop. That's no good, since you'll need some power to deal with Kamek's high stamina!

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U This magical menace is one of Bowser's henchmen and shows his face in plenty of titles, even outside of the Mario series. In the Mushroom Kingdom U stage, he swoops onto the screen every so often to transform the stage with his magic. Now and then, though, he'll tease you by not casting any magic at all. He's a sly one, that Kamek.
