Buries Lloid in the ground. If touched by a foe, it rises up, dealing constant damage, and then explodes.
—Description from Ultimate's Move List

Lloid Trap (しかけハニワくん, Haniwa-kun Trap) is Isabelle's down special move in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Overview

Isabelle plants Lloid in the ground, acting like a landmine. If an opponent walks over the trap, Lloid will shoot directly upwards, dragging the opponent with it and hitting multiple times. At the very end of the attack, Lloid will explode. Isabelle can also input the command for the move again to cause Lloid to shoot up manually. If neither of these actions occur within 10 seconds, the planted Lloid will disappear.

Origin

Lloid in Animal Crossing: City Folk.

In Animal Crossing, Lloid acts as the player's personal assistant. In Animal Crossing (GCN) a similar-looking Gyroid can hold items for the player, trade items with other visitors, and save the game. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Lloid was in charge of the Auction House in The City, and in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he is responsible for collecting donations for public works projects and renting the player tools to use in Dream Towns or on Tortimer Island.

Gyroids other than Lloid can be found buried in the ground for the player to dig up, which is likely the origin for Isabelle burying Lloid. However, Lloid is never seen moving (other than rhythmic wiggling), nor exploding outside of the Smash Bros series.

Techniques

Glyroid

'Glyroid' is a technique that was discovered by Vinylic, that makes Isabelle slide forwards during the launch animation of Lloid Trap. To input it, the player must plant the Lloid Trap, then press forward to dash, rotate the stick down, press B to activate, then rotate back forward to then get the slide. It has a 19 frame window, and cannot be done out of a crouch. It is used as a movement option or mindgame, as it slides Isabelle a small distance and attacks can be done out of the animation fairly early due to its low lag. It can be useful to cover both low and high grounds at the same time due to Lloid's anti-airing capabilities. It also initiates standing grabs, cannot be B-reversed, and Isabelle can slide offstage during the animation, giving it minor edgeguarding application. A guide on how it can be applied can be found here.
