The Hero Goes Forth with a Determination
  • Each puppet fighter represents one of the Hero's comrades, and they are fought in the order they join the party in Dragon Quest XI S:
    • Link represents Erik, a quick but fragile character who wields swords and boomerangs.
    • Zelda and the tiny Robin respectively represent Serena and Veronica, both mages who thus primarily prefer their special moves.
    • Sheik represents Sylvando, who wields swords and small knives, so the puppet fighter is equipped with a Beam Sword and often uses Needle Storm.
    • Zero Suit Samus represents Jade, as both are skilled martial artists with feminine figures, while the tiny King Dedede represents Rab, a rotund man who wields heavy wands similar to Dedede's hammer.
    • Finally, Ike represents Hendrik, a knight who can wield greatswords similar to Ike's Ragnell.

  • Kirbys prefer neutral air attack reference to Slimes basic attack, where they will jump and strike the player in Dragon Quest series.
  • Slimes are able to morph together into a single King Slime, which is what the giant Kirby represents.
  • The first area of most Dragon Quest games (where Slimes are likely to appear) are grassy plains, represented by Gaur Plains.

  • The stage references their namesake, Dracula.
  • The player's reduced defense references how Drackmages can use Kasap, which reduces the defense of all members of the affected party.
1,333 Golem •Giant R.O.B. ROBHeadYellowSSBU.png
Shield
4,400 Mushroom Kingdom (Battlefield form) •Sleep Status •The enemy has super armor but moves slower

Fighting Spirits - DRAGON QUEST III
  • The stage choice is a reference to the original Dragon Quest, where a Golem stands guard near the outskirts of the town of Cantlin.
  • R.O.B.'s sleep status also references the previously-mentioned Golem, as it can be put to sleep with the Faerie Flute to make the battle easier.

Battle for the Glory - DRAGON QUEST IV
  • The rules reference how Liquid Metal Slimes have extremely high defense and agility but low attack power. Liquid Metal Slimes also have low HP, which is referenced through the puppet fighter's low stamina.
  • Kirby starting with a Franklin Badge references how Liquid Metal Slimes are completely immune to spells (in this case, projectiles) in the Dragon Quest series.
  • The time limit may reference how Liquid Metal Slimes typically flee in one turn rather than battling.

Trivia

  • Prior to the informational video about Hero, images of Dragon Quest spirits were accidentally leaked through the Smash World spirit team database.
  • The Hero's Comrades spirit battle has the most different fighters of any spirit battle, with seven.
  • Tockles is the first (and so far, the only) spirit to be a part of a universe introduced via DLC, but to be released at a later date than that of the DLC itself.
    • Tockles is additionally the first (and so far, the only) spirit to be retroactively added to a DLC Spirit Board.
