Jinjos (ジンジョー, Jinjo) are recurring allies and collectibles in the Banjo-Kazooie franchise.

Origin

An orange Jinjo in Banjo-Kazooie.

Jinjos are magical bird-like creatures that appear prominently throughout the Banjo-Kazooie games. In the original Banjo-Kazooie, there are five differently-colored Jinjos—blue, green, orange, purple, and yellow—that are imprisoned by Gruntilda in every world, where they must be rescued by Banjo and Kazooie. When all five Jinjos in a world are rescued, the duo is awarded one of its ten collectible Jiggies.

In Banjo-Kazooie, Jinjos also play a key role in the final boss battle against Gruntilda. In the penultimate phase of the fight, she casts a shield that grants her immunity to all of Banjo and Kazooie's attacks. Four Jinjo statues then rise from the ground, and activating them summons four Jinjos, who attack Gruntilda and knock her off her broom; after this, a single, large Jinjo statue rises, dubbing itself "the mighty Jinjonator". After activating the statue, the four previously summoned Jinjos are absorbed by the Jinjonator, who rams into Gruntilda multiple times, knocking her off of her tower with one final blow.

In Banjo-Tooie, the duo come across the Jinjos' homeland, Jinjo Village, which was attacked by Gruntilda's Hag 1 machine, killing the grey Jinjos and scaring the rest away from the village. This results in King Jingaling asking for Banjo and Kazooie to help collect them and bring them back, before his life force is drained by the Winkybunion sisters' Big-O-Blaster. Four new colors of Jinjos are introduced—white, brown, red, and black—and the duo is instead granted a Jiggy for every colour of Jinjo family they manage to fully rescue, with the different colours distributed throughout the worlds at random for each new game. Additionally, Tooie introduces Minjos, arch-enemies of the Jinjos, who serve as identical-looking impostors that attack Banjo and Kazooie if they come close. The game also includes a Jinjo as a selectable character for the first-person shooter multiplayer mode, who is very small and fast but has minimal health.

Banjo & Kazooie's Final Smash in Ultimate summons the Jinjonator, who is powered by four Jinjos - one purple, one orange, one green, and one yellow - as it is in Banjo-Kazooie. The Jinjonator, after being summoned, rams into the opponents multiple times before dealing one final blow. The other four Jinjos from the boss fight are also seen flying towards the opponents. Jinjos also make a cameo in the Spiral Mountain stage.

Spirit

Jinjos appear as spirits on the special DLC-exclusive Spirit Board. Jinjos can be enhanced to The Mighty Jinjonator at level 99.
