GameTyrant Expo 2017 was a supermajor Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Project M tournament that was held in Salt Lake City, Utah by GameTyrant from September 29th-October 1st, 2017.

The tournament was notable for its large pot prize of $30,000 for both Melee and Smash 4, which was among some of the largest pots in either game at the time. GameTyrant Expo was also very ambitious for its first year, hoping to have successively larger pot prizes in future years. Many players were encouraged to attend despite its remote location and its low experience, as the new tournament series was expected to be key to the growth of competitive Super Smash Bros. in general.

Trivia

• This tournament was the first time MkLeo took a set off ZeRo since 2GGT: ZeRo Saga, spanning more than nine months and twelve sets between the two players.
  • Conversely, this tournament marks the first time MkLeo and komorikiri lost a doubles set, losing to ZeRo and Nairo in winners finals.
• This tournament also marks the highest ever placing of a Luigi main at a Smash 4 major, with Elegant placing 2nd.
