Forum:Smash DLC Thoughts

By reading the information here, I noticed that it seems Smash 4 has enough data for (potentially) 2 characters and (potentially) 3 more stages. Personally, I'd like to see a certain professor and a veteran who frankly didn't deserve to be cut, as well as a stage based on the main area from Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask. However, I'm curious to see your guys's thoughts. Changing the head icon used. No biggie.Aidan, Master of Speed and AuraPer Request, for User:Aidanzapunk. 16:55, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

I wouldn't like to see new characters so much as I would like an alt. costumes. For characters and stages, I would like Wolf, Impa, and Samurai Goroh. As for stages, I would prefer Green Hill Zone and an 8-Bit version of Mushroomy Kingdom that goes through all of the original levels, with the terrain popping out of the background. My personal assumption based on "Character Pack 1" having 4 characters is that there will be a "Character Pack 2" of roughly the same size, implying 3-5 more characters total from this point. As for stages, I expect maybe a few more past stages plus a new one for any newcomers from a new series (as they did with Suzaku Castle). Of course, there's lots of stuff that I think might be cool, but it's easy to get greedy and I'm aiming to keep my expectations realistic. Miles (talk) 17:11, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

@Miles, I find it curious that the one character that I want in Smash appears in your list of Assist Trophies. Might I ask why you think of him more as an Assist Trophy as opposed to an actual fighter? Changing the head icon used. Mostly general lack of familiarity with the Layton series making it hard for me to request him as a playable character. On a slightly different note, I kind of wonder if he's in danger of having the role of Level-5 representative stolen by Jibanyan. Miles (talk) 17:15, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
Layton is perfectly capable of holding his own, for the record. As stated in one of the games, Layton studied fencing in college. Changing the head icon used. No biggie.Aidan, Master of Speed and AuraPer Request, for User:Aidanzapunk. 17:22, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
The complicating factor is, if I understand correctly, Layton's swordfighting isn't really the main gist of the series. It's not like Zelda or Fire Emblem where characters fighting with swords is a major component of the gameplay. Isn't the gameplay of Layton games mostly puzzles? Because if so, it would seem like his moveset should derive more from that. Miles (talk) 17:27, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
Mostly. I mean, if put like that, then he isn't really perceived as a fighter, but hey, there's been multiple cases like this in the past, so who's to say that he can't be given the same treatment? Not saying it's impossible by any means; just was explaining reasons I was hesitant to include him. Miles (talk) 17:33, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

(Reset indent) Yes, and I was explaining my side of the argument. I mean, frankly, there are some characters who I think would definitely fit the Smash series, ranging from characters who've only made one minor appearance in Smash to heavily requested characters, but in terms of third parties, I think Layton has the best chance. (Also, the Layton series, as stated on Wikipedia, is considered Level 5's most successful series.) Changing the head icon used. Its sad to see that Samus and Zero Suit Samus are the only good candidates to be in a Smash Bros. game (sucks to be big, Ridley); but what I would like is some Donkey Kong Country characters as DLC such as King K. Rool and to an extent, Banjo and Kazooie. Dots (talk) 60% tech skill, 30% crazy, 10% you name it. :P The Pizza 19:07, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

Banjo and Kazooie would have been a shoo-in in 1999. These days, though, I doubt Nintendo wants to turn Smash into a Rare Replay advertisement. As for Metroid, I still think a Zebesian Space Pirate would be a good way to get another Metroid rep. Thinking about the wall-climbing and projectile shooting moves they show off, plus the mini-boss ones outside Ridley's room in Super Metroid, I can see moveset potential; they're also more reasonably humanoid-sized. In theory, it would also be a way they could bring in Ridley as a Final Smash. Miles (talk) 19:15, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

A Zebesian Space Pirate would be cool, but I doubt that would ever get in because it's a generic enemy in the Metroid universe. I personally would love to see Elma from Xenoblade Chronicles X. It'd be great to advertise for the game, and doesn't a character who switches between dual guns and blades sound cool? Smashedpotatoes (talk) 19:19, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

Yeah, I fully expect Cross or Elma to be in SSB5. Might be too new for SSB4 DLC, though. I kind of expect them to save Wii U characters like one of those or the Inkling for SSB5 just so they have some A- and B-list characters left for then. Miles (talk) 19:25, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
Yeah. I mean they got Roy in prior to his game's release in Melee. Not sure if they're so lenient of things of that nature now. Inkling would be cool. They're really going all-out with this game though, I feel like the fate of future Smash games may be a bit in limbo due to Sakurai being hesitant in making another installment. But who knows? Smashedpotatoes (talk) 19:31, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

I added a wish list to my userpage. Yes I know it is completely irrational, but still. DekZek Dekzeksig.png 19:28, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

Two words: everything in my two subpages. Yes, I know that those are trophies and music, which are minor compared to characters and stages, but c'mon, those subpages show just how many games and (trophy-worthy) characters have been neglected throughout the Smash series. RickTommy 19:58, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

How about there be more Mega Man music? Dots (talk) 60% tech skill, 30% crazy, 10% you name it. :P The Goofy 20:04, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
Heck yeah. And some more Fire Emblem music. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 20:10, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

Wolf is the only character I want for DLC. I don't want anyone else. I have interest in having Sector Z as a DLC stage, but since it looks similar to Corneria, I doubt it'll make it in. I do NOT want Krystal or Snake as playable characters; although I'll be fine if Krystal is an assist trophy, but I don't think Sakurai will make DLC assist trophies. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is made in America 20:17, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

Sector Z isn't exactly out of the realm of possibility. Corneria's only on the 3DS version, and I doubt there's some kind of rule in place stating that all DLC stages must be on both platforms. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 20:20, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
Then again, since they do have Dream Land, Hyrule Castle, and Peach's Castle on both...yeah nevermind. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 20:26, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
The Miiverse stage is a DLC stage exclusive to Wii U, although it was supposed to be on the disc but wasn't finished on time for the game's initial release. Size isn't a problem for stages appearing on both versions; I get that Sector Z is the largest stage in Smash 64, but if you look at Gaur Plain, it's a large stage on the Wii U, but was resized on the 3DS. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is bad for me 14:46, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
It was more adapted for 3DS, which includes resizing, removing springs, omitting Metal Face altogether, etc. Well, I guess the only thing is that Sector Z's pretty similar to Corneria, but that's it! Lol Smashedpotatoes (talk) 15:34, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

Well what about Lana? We need another Zelda character anyway, seeing as it doesn't have any newcomers (and really, does Toon Link count as a newcomer to Brawl? I think not. We are long overdue here.) If not her then Zant. SerpentKing (talk) 23:28, 14 September 2015 (EDT)

I kind of get the feeling that one-off Zelda characters aren't likely at this point, or else we would've seen Midna in Brawl or Ghirahim in SSB4. Lana is doubly improbable since she was created for and only appeared in a spinoff, and never in a main series title. I think some version of Impa done along the lines of Hyrule Warriors (as a composite of OoT/SS versions of her role) is the only plausible new Zelda rep. Unless we want to seriously suggest the only other Zelda character with a starring role in a game... Miles (talk) 23:45, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
Yeah, no thanks. SerpentKing (talk) 23:47, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
I actually like the idea of including Tingle, but I usually only include him as a clone of Balloon Fighter and have never been able to come up with an original moveset. I feel like Tetra or Impa would be the most likely, but really I'd prefer Yuga. Unfortunately he's not nearly as popular as Midna and Ghirahim were in their prime, and they got demoted to assist trophy, so... ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:04, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
I agree with Miles, Impa's probably the only viable Zelda newcomer. Unfortunately, given the status of the series, there's no way she's as iconic as Link/Zelda/Ganondorf to be seriously considered for the game. Plus I doubt they'd give her a moveset completely based on a spinoff (HW). They'd have to pull a Sheik here, which isn't a problem, but I feel like it lacks incentive in this case. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 15:34, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
Which weapon would Impa use, though. In HW her base weapon is the Giant Blade, and adventure map gives you the Guardian Naginata. She can only reasonably carry one, but which one? DekZek Dekzeksig.png 15:50, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
I'd want her to be able to switch between the two, personally. She's not known for being a fighter, so really there's no way to know which is the best for her. I mean, if you're like "Oh we don't have a naginata-wielding character" (which is the thought process I'd undergo if I was in charge and not resorting to a weapon-toggling mechanic for her) then I'd go with the naginata. It's really up in the air. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 15:56, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
On the other hand, she does demonstrate some magical prowess in Skyward Sword. So there's that. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 15:57, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

In addition to the newcomers and stages on this page, I'd like to see Wolf, Dixie Kong or K. Rool, Impa, maybe Bandana Dee, and Ivysaur as DLC characters and Saffron City and either of the SMB1 Mushroom Kingdoms as stages. Nyargleblargle (Talk · Contribs) 16:00, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
