Forums: Index Proposals Project M stages
FailedPolicy.png This is a closed discussion about a failed proposed change on SmashWiki. It remains for archival purposes.

Here's a fact: we don't have any articles reguarding stages in Project M. Since PM's a really big mod and we even have character articles for PM, I believe we should have at least a page about PM exclusive stages, while of course keeping it out of the pages about official stages. Here are my three suggestions:

  • 1: Create individual articles for PM stages
  • 2: Create a condensed [Project M/Stages] article which gives a brief description of the new stages, and also a small section showing changes to non PM stages
  • 3: No, we will not create any articles about PM stages

Since Project M is a mod we should have a discussion for what should be done. Supα Toαd 64, The Best MK64ToadCSP.jpg 04:04, September 1, 2019 (EDT)

Option 1: Create individual articles[edit]

  • I'm personally somewhat of a "give all the info, no matter how trivial or niche" kind, which you can probably pick up from my Trivia edits. I think it'd be great to have PM (and maybe Crusade and Project Plus? Flash 1 and 2 have a rather detailed wiki but the one for Crusade is lacking and there's none for Project Plus, but that's a story for another day) get detailed articles as long as they're not treated like official Smash games outside of a competitive environment (for example, putting PM in an article about competitive players, tier lists or rankings = cool!, putting PM in an article about character stats or a main character page = not cool) since it'll be easy for new PM players, casual or competitive, to find out info and could possibly be a good springboard for them to figure out how to play better. --What could possibly go wrong? Option 2: Create a condensed article[edit]

  1. Putting my vote here as per comments. Supα Toαd 64, The Best MK64ToadCSP.jpg 19:55, September 8, 2019 (EDT)
  2. While not as major as the characters, I do agree with the idea that the stages deserve some explaining. I was disappointed when I first discovered there was no information on the stages, so the page wouldn't be useless. An Adventurer draws near! (talk) 09:56, September 25, 2019 (EDT)
  3. see my comment below Patzui (talk) 13:30, September 25, 2019 (EDT)

Option 3: Oppose creation of PM stage articles[edit]

  1. We have PM character pages for a reason: the head icons for PM events redirect to those pages rather than the Brawl variants. There is no reason to create Project M stages since PM isn't even an official Smash game. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 11:33, September 8, 2019 (EDT)
We have red links in the stage legality page since Delfino's Secret doesn't have a page. I'd say stages are still noteworthy to have an article, just I don't think they deserve individual articles. Supα Toαd 64, The Best MK64ToadCSP.jpg 19:53, September 8, 2019 (EDT)
Why does the stage legality page even have the Project M rules? We don't have a page for Project M's rulesets or Project M's competitive history, since Project M exists on this wiki mostly to keep its technical data, plus it's popularity in the competitive scene. I was wondering why the stage legality has PM listed, I believe it should go in the PM page. As someone who never really cared about the competitive scene, I believe the PM page should have a section for the rules and history as the massive tournament scene is one of the main reasons PM pages exist. Honestly I'm fine with that too, however I don't see how creating pages for the stages will be of any help, since most of the information is available on the PM website anyways. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 21:15, September 8, 2019 (EDT)
For one it's for people who want to look at the stages in wiki format, kind of like how I like browsing on WikiBound over Starmen.net. Since SmashWiki is one of the best sources for Smash information it can be useful and interesting to see PM's original stages, since this wiki is good at describing stages in good detail. Besides since the website is shut down you'll have to find the archive of the website. Though I'll admit I put my vote in 2 since even I don't think individual articles are needed. I don't know how well a condensed article would work, since it would feel very crowded and somewhat unorganized. However, I am more open to other ideas for PM stages, unless other people digress. CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 16:26, September 9, 2019 (EDT)
Yeah on second thought condensed article for PM stages might be too crowded so for now lets see how things go. Supα Toαd 64, The Best MK64ToadCSP.jpg 19:52, September 9, 2019 (EDT)
  1. Oppose We currently have the perfect amount of PM coverage, I do not think we need more. Also think about it: if we cover stages, we would only be able to create articles for stages that do not exist in the smash series, and would not be able to even mention ones that do in their articles. That would look pretty strange to me. SerpentKing 13:29, December 3, 2019 (EST)
  2. Oppose per SK. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Gamer (talk) 22:56, February 4, 2020 (EST)

Comments[edit]

  • I'm for either option 1 or 2. Smash wiki is the best source to look up something competitive PM related and at least the tournament related stages should get some representation. I'm for being more open to mods that get tournament representation in general (the 64 mod Smash Remix for example), but I fear many users will disagree. Patzui (talk) 11:25, September 8, 2019 (EDT)
Who knows this wiki seems to be a bit more open to PM mentions now that it's grown so much. I'd say 2 is a good option since I don't really think individual articles are all that necessary. Supα Toαd 64, The Best MK64ToadCSP.jpg 19:48, September 8, 2019 (EDT)
Also I'll be offline the next few days so please don't close this yet. Supα Toαd 64, The Best MK64ToadCSP.jpg 07:48, September 11, 2019 (EDT)
