Forum:Improving Google Search results

Well right now, if you search "super smash bros wiki", this site appears at the top of the search results, and the Main Page of our wiki only appears on the top of the third page. This website, created by Google, provides good information on bumping your site up. One of the main points is the relevance of the URL. To bring SmashWiki higher on the search results, one way I think we could do it is by changing the Main Page's URL from ssbwiki.com/Main_Page to ssbwiki.com/Super-Smash-Bros-Wiki

These are just my thoughts, and there are probably more ways to do it. If you have any more, please add. Awesome Cardinal 2000 16:29, 10 May 2013 (EDT)

In the form of professionalism and conforming to the rest of NIWA, I officially oppose anything of this kind. When searching "smash wiki," "smashwiki," or anything similar, which is what most people search, our wiki shows up first. DarkFox01DF01Sig.png:D 16:52, 10 May 2013 (EDT)
A random person looking for a wiki about Smash Bros would not search for "SmashWiki" unless they already knew what it was. If someone who did not know what SmashWiki was, and was looking for a wiki, they would probably search "super smash bros wiki". Also, just because everyone in NIWA does it doesn't mean we have to do it too. I don't see why we have to stick with all of the NIWA wikis, especially for something that is not radically changing anything. Awesome Cardinal 2000 22:35, 10 May 2013 (EDT)
If anything we could move the main page to [[SmashWiki]], but that's currently an in-use redirect. ssbwiki.com/Super-Smash-Bros-Wiki is a bad idea because that's not what we're called and the Main Page should reflect that. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Indescribable 17:06, 10 May 2013 (EDT)
If "Super-Smash-Bros-Wiki" is unavailable, then "SmashWiki" would probably be a better choice, and we could add the About link on the sidebar or on top of the main page. Awesome Cardinal 2000 22:35, 10 May 2013 (EDT)

If you hide personal results, you should find that the site appears on the first results page under only Wikia and Wikipedia. What would help is more links to this site from other sites with "Super Smash Bros. wiki" in the link text. I don't think changing the main page name would really do anything, especially changing it to just "SmashWiki"--we're already #1 for searching "SmashWiki". --Porplemontage (talk) 23:01, 10 May 2013 (EDT)

Unfortunately, the Main Page is still first on the third page, and it's beaten out by a bunch of other wikis, such as Zelda Wiki. Awesome Cardinal 2000 08:00, 11 May 2013 (EDT)
