It has come to my attention that a handful of people think Olimar is a weak character. After taking a look at a few of the tier list I noticed that he was at the bottom, I'm not complaining or anything but I think he's a great character and tournament worthy. I'm really good with him and find only a few cons about him, but I want to know what you guys think! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Olimar usr (talkcontribs) 09:28, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I really like Olimar, on my rankings he's at number 6, though I will be making a change to that shortly that will likely have him drop down to 10. Dexington (talk) 15:44, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I honestly think he's bad. Edge-guarding him is easy, unless he has a Purple Pikmin up front. Still, even if he does get a Purple Pikmin, it might take some time to put it up front. Don't get me wrong, I think Olimar is pretty good at holding his own when he's got Pikmin, but he only has six moves to use without them. I think this: when he has Pikmin, he's average. When he has no Pikmin, he's definitely bad. Just my opinion though. - GalaxiaD (talk) 22:24, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I prefer to think of him, like many other characters, as a fighter to get used to. If you play as him you need to know the range, power, and knockback. You also need a good amount of luck when playing as him but overall i would say he is middle tier to one of the highest low tier characters.Cree318 (talk) 22:55, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

He's amazingly powerful for a fighter his size and weight. He only gets a few points marked off for that horrid recovery.SonicROBTrainer (talk) 00:41, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I like Olimar as a character. He does need some getting used to, and his recovery is pretty awful, but I think this guy is at least a high middle-low character (blech.) But when it comes to multiplayer matches, I think he stinks. Heh.Maxiscool (talk) 23:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Olimar is good it just takes time to get used to him. On my tier list he is first or secondMr.Christie (talk) 00:20, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

He is a good character if your good as him, and for that matter, ANY character can be top on someones teir list IF they are good as that character. Tiers are basically someones elaborate opinions on the characters. If someone is highly skilled, then any character is good for them. But either way, Olimar is a good character, not fair, he's good, and his Final smash is powerful, better then Marth's on smaller stages. Learner4 (talk) 17:18, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

i think hes pretty week but i kinda blame myself for not trying to learn how to use his pikmin Bryan45123 (talk) 02:07, 7 August 2008 (UTC)bryan45123

Olimar has some great qualities, but he's pretty reliant on his Pikmin for attacks. Olimar loses all of his Pikmin when he gets KOed, so he has to use up some of his revival invincibility frames to get more Pikmin. If you want to use the great throws of your Blue Pikmin, or the mighty power of Purple, miss and you are forced to switch to the next Pikmin, which might not be the one you want. And if Olimar is in close combat, it's harder to keep track of your Pikmin.

The main reason I had him bottom tier on my unofficial tier list (as of this post) is because of his Pikmin system. However, I really like Olimar for being a creative fighter and a non-clone.

I'll likely move him up to high middle tier or lower top tier though, since somebody who's versitile and can keep track of their Pikmin real well would do great with him. --TStick (talk) 23:25, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Olimar is not to be underestimated; he is suprisingly good in the right hands. Because he is so reliant on Pikmin, he needs a more defensive and patient approach to brawling, especially because of his light weight. Also, because of his stature a lot of projectile attacks just fly over his head. - Dancing Daggers

OMG! You want to know why Olimar is going to be high in the Tier List? (grabs GC Controller and press the C-stick up repeatedly) That's why. That's enough to make you win a game, practically. Haha, just kidding. In truth, he is a hard character to learn at first, but once he's mastered, he is a major threat in every match-up. He maybe easy to edgeguard, but in battle, he can rip his opponents apart into tiny pieces. He requires knowledge, fast reflexes, mastery of mindgames, and true mastery of DI. In short, I think he's a great character overall. Chaos F15 (talk) 12:52, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

olimar is a high tier character IMO, because of his airial comboing, and size. A smart Olimar user will know that all the pikman are good except the blue one, which has no real usage other than for water. There is much preparation when fighting, but a good olimar user can do these on the fly, Olimar really has no weaknesses if you avoid situations that would exploit these (like off the stage attacks, you can do better on the stage trust me)Fast falling with olimar is not to be taken lightly because, of the power of the pikman mixed with his attacks, it is hard to retaliate without taking more damage. Any olimar in the right hands can easily get through a match without dieing much. Arial combos people...its the way to go. - GDKN

i think he is the worst character in the gameMichael45672 (talk) 19:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)michael45672

I wouldn't necessarily call him the WORST, but he does have a few kinks to work out. - GalaxiaD (talk) 02:28, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

He's just got a learning curve. Obviously, his recover is weak, but he has great range, a decent projectile, great combo ability, and a strong set of smashes (most notably his up-smash). Cheezperson (talk) 16:19, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Do I think? Olimar is my main! You just have to be a little patient. Pikmin order is a little tricky to understand. You also got to be patient when grabbing an edge. You also got to remember how long Olimar's tether is. - anonymous

another thing to consider, is the fact that his up special is a powerful attack. So try not to think of it as a weak tether, but a strong high attack. Great for edge guarding. - GDKN

Olimar can be good if used correctly but I don't like him. My reasons are :

  • Take invincibility time to pick up Pikmins.
  • Game is quite random with the automatic switch of Pikmins at each attack.
  • I don't like this kind of gameplay
  • Pikmins can be killed
  • Recover depends on how many Pikmins you have.
  • Smashes are not very effective (for my like)
  • Pikmins' color is TOTALLY random and it's quite difficult to have Purple Pikmins.
