Image replacement[edit]

So a little more than half a year ago, I tried to bring back this previous unused image to replace this one, but all my edits based around this particular screenshot got reverted because the screenshot I was trying to replace it with was of "poor-quality".

While I can understand the reasoning, I don't think this screenshot is much better either because:

A) Ridley is so out-of-focus that he's hardly visible when this image is used as a thumbnail, forcing a reader to have to click on the image to get a better look at him.
B) The heavy presence of Samus here can potentially lead to some confusion as it may mislead a reader into thinking the image is about Samus instead. Also, the pause interface in this screenshot just makes it look plain ugly and flat-out distracting, in my opinion.

What's especially strange is that I did the same thing to Lakitu's presence in the Peach's Castle stage, and that got approved and the previous image was deleted shortly after, so I don't quite understand why the Ridley contribution wasn't okay.

In my opinion, I'd rather have a screenshot that's of poor-quality, but atleast has the character in question entirely in focus, over one that's high-quality, but there's just way too much on the screen to the point that the character in question ends up becoming way too out-of-focus.

On a side-note, I'd also suggest the current Waver image to be replaced with the image shown on the official Japanese website of Smash 64 here: [1]. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 20:30, April 3, 2020 (EDT)

I very strongly disagree about "focus over quality"; I'd much rather take a large, clear image of Ridley in the corner of a screenshot than a tiny, blurry image of Ridley by himself. Nintendo 64 GIFs on a 1990s website, no matter how official, should not be considered our best option. What I might suggest is cropping this image so that it's just Ridley, if that's your main concern here; it addresses both the quality and focus concerns. Same thing with Waver.
But in truth, what would be the best, most ideal option is to directly rip the sprites and upload them, as was done with the Saffron City Pokemon. It would be official, high quality, and without any background or other clutter. Unfortunately, the Spriters/Textures Resource doesn't have anything for Planet Zebes as far as I can tell, so someone else would need to extract the sprites themselves. --PeabodySam (talk) 23:29, April 3, 2020 (EDT)
Examples of cropped images (the Wavers proved to be trickier than Ridley, but I tried to find a balance with the "rule of thirds"):
Personally, I do think a little something is lost in these screenshots by not showing these background characters in their environment, but these are still leagues better than the pictures on the old website. What do you think? --PeabodySam (talk) 00:04, April 4, 2020 (EDT)
I suppose those are good enough. The Waver image could be better as it still has Samus in it, but it is an improvement over the last version, at the very least. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 00:33, April 4, 2020 (EDT)
