Article on Zelda Wiki Deku Nut

The Deku Nut (デクの実, Deku Nut) is an item from The Legend of Zelda series that appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Although they may appear to be food, they are a throwable, explosive item that stuns a hit opponent for a brief moment.

OriginEdit

A Deku Nut as it originally appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Deku Nuts first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and its direct sequel Majora's Mask. They take the appearance of ordinary nuts, but are filled with a special substance that can stun an individual if the nut is damaged. Deku Nuts can be found mainly around the Kokiri Forest region. Deku Babas also drop Deku Nuts when they are defeated. Link can use the Deku Nuts to stun certain enemies in the game. Impa and Sheik also use a Deku Nut, or an item similar to a Deku Nut, to conceal their departure from a certain area. The Deku Nut also appears in The Wind Waker, but as a large throwable object instead of an item that Link can collect, and without any stunning capabilities.

OverviewEdit

The Deku Nut is a type of explosive item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When it explodes by being thrown, attacked, or timed out, any character in its blast range (including the thrower, except in Smash 4) that is grounded becomes stunned, making them vulnerable to a free hit. A character who is moving while hit will slide across the stage while stunned if they are hit by a thrown Deku Nut, but can get out of a stunned status if they fall over an edge while sliding.

Airborne characters hit by the Deku Nut explosion take a large amount of damage and high vertical knockback, instead of being stunned. Additionally, the initial hit from the nut itself deals knockback at the Sakurai angle; if this knockback is high enough to raise the knockback angle above 0°, the opponent will be airborne when the explosion hits them, triggering the vertical knockback, which will likely be enough to KO them. If the Deku Nut is thrown downwards at the floor, causing only the explosion to hit the opponent, this will never occur, regardless of percent.

In Super Smash Bros. BrawlEdit

Deku Nuts
Items that explode in a flash of blinding light shortly after they appear or when they take damage. Those caught in a blast will be dazed and immobile for a few moments. If the item is thrown, it has the same effect on whomever it hits. In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Deku Nuts stunned enemies and were indispensable when Link was surrounded.

After a short wait, or immediately if it gets thrown or hit, these little objects will explode in a burst of light. The flash will daze those too close, stunning them and leaving them open to attacks. It's easy to overlook these, so don't accidentally set one off on yourself!

When Deku Nuts explode, they emit a light so bright that any fighter caught in the blast area – even ones with their shield up – will be stunned. If that's not enough, any foes in mid-air will be launched by the blast. Just try not to drop one by accident, or you'll definitely regret it!
