Creatures, Inc. (Japanese: 株式会社・かぶしきがいしゃ・クリーチャーズ, Kabushiki gaisha Creatures) is an affiliate of The Pokémon Company (which itself is a joint venture by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures).[1] It was founded on November 8, 1995[1] by Tsunekazu Ishihara with assistance of Satoru Iwata, as a successor to Shigesato Itoi's company Ape Inc..[2][3] Creatures is one of the companies responsible for producing and licensing various aspects of the Pokémon franchise, including the Trading Card Game and other merchandise in Japan. Creatures owns one-third of the copyright to the Pokémon franchise (the other two-thirds owned by Game Freak and Nintendo).

As Ape Inc., the company developed the first two entries in the EarthBound series, with EarthBound being developed with the assistance of HAL Laboratory. The company was disbanded after completing the development of EarthBound, and restructured as Creatures to help completing the development of Pokémon Red & Green. Nintendo still uses the name Ape Inc. when referring to Creatures in financial documents.[4]
