Peach (ピーチ, Pīchi) was confirmed to be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4 on September 12, 2013.[1] She is among the first wave of compatible amiibo figures. Peach will be voiced by Samantha Kelly.
She is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom in the fictional settings of the Mario franchise, and usually it is her kidnapping that acts as the driving point for the major series installments. However, she recently had a prominent playable role in Super Mario 3D World and had her own video game called Super Princess Peach.
Apparent changes from Brawl
With the exception to some minor tweaks, Peach seems largely unchanged from Brawl. However, many new animations accompany her established attacks in the form of hearts, rainbows, and magic sparkles. Whether these changes are purely aesthetic or indicate that her reach has been extended remains to be seen.
- Up Smash now spawns a ribbon around Peach, with an apparent increase in both horizontal and vertical reach.[1]
- Peach Bomber appears to be faster.
- Midair jump seems to have greater vertical height.
- Her Dash Attack now has a magic effect.[2]
- Forward tilt now has a somewhat tweaked animation.[2]
- Peach has gained an unspecified move that generates a rainbow.
- Midair jump seems to have greater vertical height.
- Floating now has sparkles emit from the bottom of her dress.[3]
- {{change|Forward smash has a new animation
Like Mario and Luigi, Peach's facial structure appears more as it does in the Super Mario franchise than it has in past installments. Additionally, her dress has been made more stylized and brighter in color. Her hair color appears to be lighter than it was in Brawl as well. The ring on her hand now has an opal gem that matches her other blue gems; the broach on her chest and the one on her crown. Also, her running animation is now based on her running animation from Super Mario 3D World.[2]. Like the other characters, Peach is also much more expressive.
Known moveset
Unfortunately, Peach has not been playable at any accessible demos thus far. Therefore most of her moveset and any possible changes remain unseen. However, several returning moves can be verified.
Ground attacks
Normal
- Dash attack - Peach extends both of her arms and quickly swipes them to her side, as if pushing.
- Forward tilt - Peach thrusts her leg upward in a 180˚ kick.
- Up tilt - Peach extends her hand upward and briefly generates a heart.
Smash Attacks
- Forward smash - Peach strikes an opponent with one of three weapons:
- A frying pan from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- A golf club from Mario Golf
- A tennis racket from Mario Tennis
Aerial attacks
- Forward aerial - Peach grabs the crown off her head and strikes with it.
- Back aerial - Peach thrusts her rear out behind her.
Grabs and throws
- Back throw - Peach takes the opponent behind her, and knocks them away by thrusting her rear.
Special Moves
In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, but Peach's have yet to be seen. Peach retains all of her original special moves. These are Peach's special moves:
- Neutral Special: Toad: Peach equips her Toad Retainer as a shield. He absorbs the amount of damage from the attack and immediately releases it back.[3]
- Side Special: Peach Bomber: she propels herself forward by thrusting her hip. It seems to be significantly faster than in previous installments.[2]
- Up Special: Peach Parasol: performs an upward jump and simultaneously pulls out her parasol, jabbing those above her in the process. It can then be used as a directional glide.[2]
- Down Special: Vegetable: Peach plucks a turnip from the ground as she does in Super Mario Bros. 2. She can then throw it.[4]
Special Move | Basic | Custom 1 | Custom 2 |
---|---|---|---|
Neutral Special | Toad | - | - |
Side Special | Peach Bomber | - | - |
Up Special | Peach Parasol | - | - |
Down Special | Vegetable | - | - |
Final Smash | - | - | - |
Taunts
- Takes out and twirls her parasol. In Brawl, she would say "sweet" as she does this.
- Dances in a taunting manner as little music notes flutter around her. She would sing a little tune similar to "Ring Around the Rosie" in Brawl.
- Spins around once. She then winks and points with her index finger in a somewhat bent posture.
Palette swaps
- Standard - Pink: Peach wears her iconic pink dress, and her opal-encrusted gold crown. The gown is the same as it was in Brawl, but with brighter colors that make it more similar to her dress in the Mario games.
Trivia
- Peach was confirmed a day before the anniversary of Super Mario Bros., in which she debuted.
- Peach was the second official female character confirmed for the game after the Wii Fit Trainer. While the Villager was technically confirmed before hand, it was not known that a female variant of him would be playable at the time of Peach's reveal.
- Ike, Lucario, Diddy Kong, Charizard, King Dedede, and Peach were the only returning characters confirmed before E3 2014 to not be playable at the event.
- Of them, she is the earliest one to be revealed, being the only one revealed in 2013.
