I don't see why reuploading the file as a png is necessary. The only thing that turning a jpg into a png does is bloat the file's size. Everything else, including image quality, remains the same as in the original file. Use an image that hasn't been sourced from a jpeg or otherwise if you plan on replacing it with a png.
