Skill Super Smash Bros. Melee Top professional

Captain Jack is a Japanese professional smasher, primarily known for being a top professional Melee Sheik player during the 2004-2008 era. He traveled to many national tournaments across the globe, competing with top players from the United States, Europe, and Australia. He was ranked 2nd in the Kansai Ranking Battles. Captain Jack became inactive in the Melee scene shortly after Brawl's release in early 2008.

Captain Jack initially announced his return to the competitive Smash scene, and has stated that he would be competing in Super Smash Bros. 4 tournaments in the future. However, he had been unable to commit to this since he became married on June 28, 2015. In March 2016 he announced another comeback for both Melee and Smash 4 and stated that he hoped to be a professional by the end of the year.

Tournament history

Captain Jack's first tournament in the United States was MLG San Francisco 2004, in which he defeated Isai 6-0 in grand finals to win the tournament. In August 2004, he made an appearance at Tournament Go 6, where he defeated ChuDat in winners' semis before losing to Azen in winners' finals. After defeating ChuDat again in losers' finals, he won the first set of grand finals against Azen, but still lost the second set, placing 2nd at the tournament. He was also able to defeat famed player Ken in friendlies using a variety of characters, including Bowser, who was considered the second worst character at the time.

In February 2005, Captain Jack attended @M in Melbourne, Australia, and defeated Kupo in grand finals to win the tournament. One month later, he attended Dutch Tournament 10 in The Netherlands, where he defeated Remen to claim another international victory. In August 2005, he hosted and participated at Jack Garden Tournament in Kyoto, one of the first national tournaments in Japan, and placed 7th. Captain Jack won another European tournament at XTC3 in April 2006, defeating Amsah to take 1st place.

Captain Jack made another appearance in the United States in August 2006, and attended Zero Challenge 2, where he placed 7th in singles. He lost to Ken in winners' quarters, then defeated The King in losers' bracket to make it into top 8, before losing to ChuDat in losers' top 8. He also won doubles with Isai; despite losing to Mew2King and KoreanDJ in winners' quarters, they made a run through losers' bracket, defeating The King and The GERM, Taj and Forward, HugS and Omar, Mew2King and KoreanDJ in a rematch, and Hoshino Kirby and Kei in losers' finals. They eventually won both sets of grand finals against ChuDat and Manacloud.

Captain Jack then traveled to Europe in February 2008 with Masashi to attend Epita Smash Arena 2. He defeated Nnja, Calle W, and Armada in winners' bracket to reach winners' finals against Amsah, which he eventually lost 0-4. He defeated Armada 4-2 in losers' finals, and had a closer set against Amsah in grand finals, but lost 3-4, placing 2nd in singles at the tournament. He also placed 2nd in doubles with Masashi, losing to Strawhat Dahean and Overtriforce in winners' semis. Once in losers' bracket, they defeated Armada and Aniolas, Infernum and Poilon, and Calle W and Svampen to make it to grand finals, but they lost to Strawhat Dahean and Overtriforce once again.

Captain Jack made his first international appearance in years at Apex 2012, where he participated in Melee singles, and was able to sweep his round one pool, but was unable to make it out of his round two pool. In doubles, he placed 33rd with Marth player Kou. Captain Jack was also the last smasher in the lineup to play for the World crew in the Melee USA vs. the World crew battle. Despite only losing one stock to take off three stocks from the USA crew's Captain Falcon main Hax, Captain Jack lost all three of his remaining stocks in less than a minute against Dr. PeePee's Falco from the USA crew. The ensuing rematches did not result in Captain Jack coming much closer to defeating Dr. PeePee. He also played an exhibition match against other Melee veteran Isai, but Isai ended up sandbagging and was 4-stocked by Captain Jack, much to the crowd's dismay.
