This is the page for requesting adminship for SmashWiki. If you don't know what an administrator is, see SmashWiki:Administrators.

Rules

  • Only self-nominations are allowed. If you think that another member would make a good sysop, then you can convince them to nominate themselves. You cannot, however, make a nomination on behalf of another user.
  • All new nominees should post their name below as a in a level 3 header (===Username===). Underneath, the user should state why he/she would like to become an administrator. Posting examples of notable work that the nominee has contributed is highly encouraged.
  • Users who wish to support, oppose, or comment on the nomination may do so underneath the person requesting adminship.
  • After sufficient time has passed to allow all users who wish to express an opinion the chance to do so, a decision will be made based on community consensus as to whether or not the request will succeed. Once a decision has been made, the discussion will be archived and moved to an appropriate subpage.

Looking around, nobody is really getting appointed, so I don't think this will hurt. I'm quite experienced with wiki codes, having been an active Wikipedia editor since 2006. I've done quite a lot of edits, such as expanding game articles (ie. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Nintendogs, Golden Sun, and Super Mario 64). I believe I was one of the first to begin using Game Infoboxes on a large scale, and I have also expanded the Wii article numerously, with some help from Richard, of course. My best skill from all of my editing is the ability to transfer Wikipedia articles to Smashwiki without using too much useless information, yet keeping in the necessary and filtering out wikicodes that do not work on Smashwiki. I've also worked on editing overly large images that do not apply to the fair use license to smaller images that comply perfectly. After the merge, I have also been quite active in "purging" images, or making them visible. Also, with March 9th coming, the Wikipedia article has been receiving a host of vandalism. I'm hoping to be able to do something about that if it hits Smash Wiki too, and it is on a minor scale. As a normal editor, I feel restricted on being able to protect the articles I've spent my time on, and I really feel that admin abilities will help me in an incredibly useful way on Smash Wiki. Thank you for taking the time for reading this long resume. --Misken67 05:14, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Support - Protect the articles you've spent your time on? Does that mean your protect every one of them? Protect the one's you think will need protecting? Protect that ones that actually do need protecting? I would like some clarification :) --Sky (t | c | w) 05:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Answer - No, of course not. There are some articles, such as Golden Sun, which remains relatively untouched. There are some articles, like Mario, which is frequently updated and edited, yet there is no vandalism. However, the Brawl article is currently the most vulnerable at the moment, and if anything major happens between now and the release date, I would not immediately protect. I would issue a warning and then block. (I have used this tactic on Wikipedia as well, where it is easier to ask admins to issue a block because they answer immediately, due to their sheer numbers.) I would only protect if there is an onslaught of vandalism. However, I don't expect anyone, much less me, to be appointed by that time. I hope I answered your question! --Misken67 05:45, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose Temperament is something to be desired, threatening to remove other contributors work instead of approaching them politely and working to verify validity is very troubling to me. Also, although content is a larger target for vandals oh oh say, a series release, requesting an RfA on the basis of protecting articles is not the solution I'm looking for. Despite a number of vandals coming from anonymous IPs, a good number of valid contributions come from anonymous editors as well. And with the release of Brawl, people will be eager to add information, and they can't do that if the information is protected, whether fully or semi. Perhaps you should try again at a later time, sorry. --Charitwo 12:45, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Answer - Oh, so you finally decide to answer me, after 2 weeks of repeated requests. As you can see, I gave him some time to give me a reference, since there was no source on the article whatsoever. Nobody could figure out what C.G. was, so I asked him, and if he didn't respond, I would request for deletion. It might seem strict, but I am used to Wikipedia standards, and I believe articles without proper sourcing or relationship to the Smash Bros. series do not deserve an article. I had no idea what C.G. was, there was no reference, and a Google search wouldn't help, so I left the message. As for protection, you obviously haven't been assaulted by 8 IP vandals before. If someone really does want to help, they will take the time to join Wikia, which probably takes 1 minute and requires no personal information. But as you see, if one or two vandals decide to come, as is happening, there should be a warning issued (which isn't happening). Finally, are you trying to tell me that Wikia should be so loose, that nobody is allowed to ask another user:
Please describe it more thoroughly and provide sources for the speculation or else I will delete it in due time. Thanks.

I believe that this kind of opening provides overly-excited editors to add speculation without adding sources that aren't their own imagination. --Misken67 01:01, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Misken, deletion and threatening to delete are not your job (yet), and the second should never come into play, especially as an administrator. The language you used was too strong in this case, as you're attempting to delegate powers to yourself which you have not. What you could have said instead was "... or I will request an administrator delete it". I personally would have tagged it with a delete (talkedithistory) tag, as we do indeed have no idea what it is, and that it is an article completely based on a rumor. --Sky (t | c | w) 04:08, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm aware of that. I've placed that template on other talk pages, but you have to know that I spent quite a long time searching for correct templates and request pages on Wikia, since the codes here are completely different than Wikia's. I know I made a mistake there (I was thinking something else but it typed out differently), and I was a bit harsh on him, but Charitwo isn't listening to a word I say. He seems determined to hate me, and the other admins aren't listening to my requests for merge, such as Ana, or Moveset swaps, or my request for deletion, one which is obvious advertising. I think my time is better spent on Wikipedia, where I can actually make constructive edits and not have everything I do completely ignored, except for one mistake, which everyone seems to make a big deal out of. Sky, don't take this personally, as I feel this way towards just about every editor on Wikia except for Erik and Richard. As for now, will someone archive this nomination? I nominated myself for fun, to see how far I'd get, but apparently, all I'm getting is repeated beatings. (Plus, my prediction came true; the Brawl article did indeed require an IP block). I feel I did more good to Smashwiki than that one comment, yet nobody has even acknowledged my work. Before, the Nintendo article was 2 sentences long; Richard did a merge and I added the Smash section. Masahiro Sakurai was 3 sentences long, w/o an infobox. Music (SSBB) and List of SSBB trophies were at least 80% incomplete, and now, they are only 40% incomplete. I created templates such as Template: Japan (Template:Japan) to help with easier infobox (release date) use. I've also added huge amounts of useful images, and helped scale down overly-large images that are not in the public domain. Yet, for everything I've done, I'm only being acknowledged for a mistake I've made while typing? I'm pulling out of requests, as I think Wikipedia is more my style, than Wikia where there is only 3 editors to answer my requests. (None of whom who actually do) --Misken67 19:53, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Ah yes, broad and sweeping generalizations. That solves everything, of course.
I'm not harping on you. I was clarifying the point that he probably wished to make most prominently; don't let it bring you down. From what I can tell, you'd get the same crap at WP:RFA as you just have here. People do make mistakes and/or cause conflicts, and RFA in general seems to expose them, whether or not they've been resolved.
Nobody acknowledged your work because that's just not what happens on a wiki. It may happen on WP, but from what I've seen—and this may not be true—people do it to gain favor. As for only three editors, that's why there is this process. We need more admins, as you can tell; Charitwo and Richard are the only ones doing any admin work atm. I personally think Erik should be boosted; I'd even make a run, if I felt I had the contributions needed (do I? :).
Note that I supported you, as well. That whole AGF thing. --Sky (t | c | w) 19:39, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Silverdragon706

Hello, I'm known as FyreNWater around the site. While I'm fairly new to the SmashWiki, I think I've made quite a few contributions to the site. I haven't done anything fancy like make templates, categories, or even make many new pages. However, I revert vandalism, clean up poorly-written articles, contribute to stubs, tag bad pages for deletion, and notify administrators of vandals. I've only been around for a few months, but I can see that there is a great need for authority to do something about vandals and the problems they cause. I'm on almost daily and see problems that I wish I could solve, like deleting joke/spam pages and banning individuals who have done nothing but vandalize. Now, all I can really do is notify the current sysops about vandals and tag bad pages for deletion. I personally have a list of bad users and pages. They've been untouched for at least a month as no sysop seems to have been around to do much.

While I haven't done any advanced things like templates, nearly all of my contributions have been reverting vandalism, tagging pages for deletion/clean-up, removing speculation, and rewriting articles to have a more professional tone. The most notable thing I did was nearly single-handedly revert about 200 spam edits Zoomer555 made using a bot.

I feel that if I were a sysop, I could clean up the junk that pops up around the site. My almost-daily visits mean that problems could be attended to soon after they arise. With the small number of sysops and the growing amount of junk showing up on SmashWiki, I feel that my contributions can help keep the site as vandalism-free as possible. FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 02:50, November 23, 2007 (EST)

  • I would support based on the amount of malicious edits elsewhere on the Wiki that can be so much better taken care of if we had a regular and dutiful vandal patroller like FyreNWater given the extra buttons that come with the sysop position. More importantly, I'll trust that she possesses the one quality I personally think should be vital in all admins: That if she uses a sysop power to commit something clearly objectionable and is confronted over it, she will accept that she is in the wrong there and attempt to rectify the issue without clashing over it with those other users.--Erik, Lord of Universes 13:50, November 23, 2007 (EST)
  • I strongly support. FnW's been working hard keeping vandalism, incorrect edits, and overall bad info off of the site. She seems to always be ready to watch the recent changes list for a sign of something gone amiss; and that's something we need in a sysop. I know that if given the honor, she'll take it to heart, and with full responsibility.--NeonCrusader 14:49, November 23, 2007 (EST)
  • As stated above, FNW does a very diligent job at keeping the Wiki vandalism-free - a top priority for a sysop. Don't really have anything else to add that hasn't already been said. She's also got my support.--User:EPX2/sig 19:06, November 23, 2007 (EST)
  • Along with Randall, FNW has my support. As mentioned above, she's done a good job reverting vandalism as well as cleaning up pages in general. Definitely responsible enough to be a sysop.--Janitor 19:12, November 23, 2007 (EST)
  • I agree that SilverDragon706/FyreNWater would be a perfect candidate for sysop. She got rid of the needless speculation in the current Brawl articles. There are also countless times where she has cleaned up many vandilize pages -- whether it was a petty and obvious vandilism or a subtle one, she was always on the ball. Furthermore, FNW has put several people in their place and has helped them if they were new or did not understand the rules. All of these reasons plus her activity everday on this wiki makes her a perfect candidate.--The Magnum Master 21:04, November 23, 2007 (EST)
  • I agree SilverDragon706 on being a sysop due to his hard work on SmashWiki and she spends most of the time cleaning pages and even on vandalism. Though my vote is possitive SilverDragon must get to understand that Banning is not the main answer for everything, everytime she goes along with somebody who is making a problem she says "stop it or u'll get banned" as if she'd be taking the choice: that would mean she would actually ban the user if had such privilege,I'd make her understand that Users have right to learn from mistakes and need time for getting into Smashwiki.--Zinnamon 12:07, November 25, 2007 (EST)
hey, the users i want banned are the ones whose "contributions" are only vandalization. that or they've done it more than they've helped. i know warnings are available, as well as temp-bans. i would use banning as a last resort. we need all the user help we can get at this site! FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 14:20, November 26, 2007 (EST)
  • Support Silverdragon has done a great job of removing speculation cruft and help maintain the SmashWiki community.--Magiciandude 22:03, November 26, 2007 (EST)
  • I also upport her as a sysop, she is always removing vandalism and cleaning up articles, and removing any speculation.--Fandangox 21:09, December 14, 2007 (EST)
  • Support I support FyreNWater to be a sysop. Judging by her edits, she has helped out the community time after time, so I'm all for her being a sysop. Plus, she's active!--(Lavaris 17:01, February 8, 2008 (EST))
  • Neutral - I'm hesitant to decide on which side of the fence I lie, as Silver has a tendency to bump heads with people (I've been hit at least once). There are a handful of other users who are here in good faith who have tried to talk to Silver about their changes, but have been told they're wrong about what they're doing, rather than seeking help in talking with the users when (s)he couldn't get her/his point across. Still have to mull it over a bit more, I think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sky2042 (talkcontribs) 06:05, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

EPX2

Figured I might as well throw one in. No harm in trying, after all.

I'm a relatively new and unknown contributor to SmashWiki, having joined less than two months ago. While I suspect some will use my short account life against me, I don't think that's necessarily a huge issue. True, not having been here very long means that there's a less of a chance of me being an established member, but in my own personal experience, longevity as a member is not always a very accurate indicator as to a person's sense of responsibility. I'm very interested in making this one of the premier Wikis on the internet; though I can't lay claim to having done an iota of what RJM or even FNW have accomplished in their time here, I still feel as if I'm making some sort of impact. I contribute quite often, albeit in minor ways, by fixing up articles, creating redirects, and expanding the more skeletal entries. While there have been days on which I've neglected to check the Wiki, I generally visit very frequently to keep an eye on the site (specifically on the "Recent Changes" page) for any suspicious activity.

Thankfully, I haven't encountered a high amount of vandalism on this site... which is a good thing. However, it's apparent that this site is growing with every passing day - eventually, vandalism's going to become more of a prevalent issue as the Wiki grows in exposure and popularity. We're already starting to see the effects of people who serve only to annoy by making joke/troll entries (see here for an example). I'd like to have the ability to prevent any future vandalism from occuring at my own discretion, rather than having to flag articles for review by a sysop - a process that has proven to be very unreliable as, up until today, several pages that had been marked for deletion numerous months ago still existed on the site.

I feel that I'm capable of undertaking this position as I've handled very similar tasks in the past. I've been a member of the GameFAQs message boards for over five years. In my time at the boards, I've become a very involved member of the userbase, joining many spinoff forums created by various GameFAQs communities and moderating for several of them. More recently, I've been co-administrating at YA RLY Lite, a newer offshoot of the GameFAQs message boards started in November 2005. As a result of my time spent administrating at YRL, I've grown to work very well with teams. I take input (especially criticism) from my fellow staff members seriously, taking their thoughts into consideration when mulling over any important matters. If someone disagrees with any decisions I may make and provides valid reasoning for their disapproval, I am fully willing to cooperate and undo any actions of mine that are in question.

I realize that I'm virtually unknown around here, which definitely does not work in my favor. However, I guarantee that if I were to be given the opportunity to work as a sysop for SmashWiki, I would take the position quite seriously. I'm a very trustworthy individual and the fact that I've held so many staff positions over the years should show that I'm quite experienced in the administrative aspect of websites. I'm completely aware of what this position would entail for myself, and I am willing to go through with offering my services. As I said before, I want to see this site succeed; I enjoy editing here, and having the extra sysop tools and abilities available at my disposal would allow me to take my contributions to the site one step further. While I'd remain an active contributor, I would be able to personally deal with any troublemakers that may pop up.

I understand that the final decision, as stated in the guidelines, rests ultimately with the current sysops and the Smash World staff. I can only hope that they'll see that my intentions are genuine and that I am capable of handling this position appropriately. Besides, how can anyone turn down a guy so sexy? :P User:EPX2/sig 21:26, November 24, 2007 (EST)

  • EXP2 is always worring about improving this wiki, and he always ask before making a edit (to see if other people agree) and he had helped cleaning up the universe's templates.--Fandangox 21:09, December 14, 2007 (EST)

Teamrocketspy621

Hi, I'm Teamrocketspy621, or, as I'm more commonly known, TRS. I'm not completely sure if I've been here long enough to do this, nor am I completely sure if I'm ready for this, but since only self-nominations are allowed, then I guess I'll never get the chance to be a sysop if I don't work up the courage to post about myself here.

I guess there's not really much to say. I do what I can to clean up articles and add useful information. I created the Boss article, as well as the Zelda II: The Adventure of Link article, from scratch, and those are barely untouched by other people, so those could be seen as pretty good examples of my work. I also did a lot of the writing that's now on the King Dedede article, so that's also a good example.

I constantly do what I can to remove any vandalism or inappropriate content I find. I write as grammatically correct as possible, editing grammatical and spelling errors whenever I can, usually ending up rewriting most of the paragraph in the process just for the sake of making it sound more like it belongs on a Wiki.

I don't really know what the community thinks of me yet, but I guess this is a good time to find out. Teamrocketspy621 17:29, December 6, 2007 (EST)

TRS seems like a good choice for sysop. Just glancing at his edits, I can easily see that he puts a great deal of effort in contributing to the Wiki in the way of expanding stubs and rewriting poorly-written articles. He seems to spend a lot of time here editing, which only makes him stand out even more to me. He's got my support.--User:EPX2/sig 21:36, December 6, 2007 (EST)
TRS has contributed a lot, is a good poster, and is very smart with edits on smashwiki and posting on SWF. TRS is a great choice, since TRS knows the whole wiki format and whatnot, and how to work everything. Plus good edits, and great pages made definitely help. TRS has my support.--Johnknight1 00:34, December 7, 2007 (EST)
  • Yes, indeed he is a good very good editor (like EXP2 he always clean up my article's mess) He knows a lot of the community and the rules over here.--Fandangox 21:09, December 14, 2007 (EST)
  • I think he would be a good sysop as well.--Slashy

Oxico

Hello, I am Oxico. I have been on SmashWiki for a time now, keeping sure speculation and false facts were kept away from our articles, every single day. I take no breaks from this Wiki, and I take great enjoyment in fixing it. I want to become a sysop because I have done a considerable amount for the short amount of time I have been around. Being Sysop, I will make sure that unwanted articles are wiped clean. I will also use my powers as Sysop to ensure unruly users are kept in line.

Some things I have accomplished here is that I cleaned up most of the Final Smash pages (I added how much damage each and every one does, approxiamately), removed speculations from many pages, added and organized the On-Screen Appearances page. I also organized the Galaxia page and the Swords disambuagation page. I also put in that Jigglypuff is a shiny Pokemon, which failed to be put in the article dispite it being important. If you notice, at the bottom of each character info page is a section called "Special Movements". I created that section on each and every page. Took me two days, factoring in my slow computer, which is prone to not working quite suddenly.

If I don't make it, seeing on how my competition is so tough, I will wait to try again to become a Sysop. Thank you all.

Though he have been fixing artciles, removing speculation and helping this wiki almost since he began to come here, I think he is relatively new compared to other candidates for sysop like Silverdragon and Erik (who everyone believes he is already a sysop) who would make a better sysop.--Fandangox 21:09, February 4, 2008 (EST)

Zmario

Hello, my name is Zmario and I am appealed to this site. My knowledge of smash is both Astonihing and suprising. I have the strategy Guides for all 3 smash games. I can pretty much fill in everything. If you have noticed I have been putting the stickers in each universe. If can do anything else just let me know! I could fill in the rest of the Event Matches for Brawl.

Nothing personal, but I think you should spend a little more time before running before admin. You don't need to be an admin to work on event matches btw :) --{{subst:User:Charitwo/SigX}} 18:31, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
