Freeze glitch

The "freeze glitch" is a glitch unique to the Ice Climbers. It is caused by performing a grab with Nana (or Popo depending on what color scheme you are using) and doing a smash b attack into the character being grabbed. This glitch is banned in tournament play.

Characters

  • Ice Climbers
  • Any character that can be thrown so the second character does not matter.

Items

  • Screw Attack (if you accidentally trap your target in a block of ice by using a freezie or b attacking, this will "unfreeze" them from the ice block).

Stage

  • There are no stage requirements, but it is easier to do it on a flat stage that does not move.

Instructions

  1. Start by grabbing the opponent with your partner (this can be done far more easily in training mode by slowing down the game speed).
  2. Next, you will need to (quickly) do a smash b attack to the grabbed opponent.
  3. If done correctly, the opponent will be frozen from the grab.
  4. Once the opponent is "frozen", they will remain in the same place, no matter how high their damage gets, until you, or another character grab(s) and throw(s) them.

Notes

  • While a character is frozen they will not respond and will not be able to attack.
  • If the opponent is hit up or down while frozen they will slowly move in that direction and may cause you to be unable to grab and release them from the glitch.
  • This glitch is not tournament legal.
  • On the Corneria and Venom stages the frozen character will float around the stage until the glitch is fixed (i.e. grabbing them).
  • If a frozen character gets out of the screen, he will not die nor come back on the stage. This might happen in stages such as Corneria and Venom, as well as moving stages. It can also happen if a Barrel Cannon is thrown on the frozen character.
  • If this is used on Training Mode, it is possible to get infinite combos.
  • The tactic was discovered by Philly Billy.
