Fox (フォックス Fokkusu) was one of the characters confirmed to return as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4 during the E3 2013 trailers. He appears to have fur visuals of higher quality than before, similar to Donkey Kong. Also, his teeth appear to be more pronounced than in previous installments. Fox appears to have a new Japanese voice actor [1], while in English, he's voiced by his Star Fox 64 (as well as the 3DS remake) voice actor, Mike West [2].

Changes from Brawl

Fox appears to be nerfed overall. His movement speed was nerfed, making his approaches much less safe and he can no longer laser camp to bait bad approaches from his opponents. Additionally, his finishers are weaker. He did gain better recovery options, but they do not compensate for the nerfs to his neutral and punishment games.

  • Buff Fox now has a finishing kick to his neutral combo of increased power.
  • Buff Fox Illusion no longer leaves Fox helpless after the move is performed in the air and no longer dashes over the edge when used on the ground.
  • Buff Fire Fox travels a greater distance, now nearly as much as it does in Melee (NTSC).
  • Buff Dash attack comes out slightly faster, and appears to have consistent damage throughout.
    • Nerf However, it deals slightly less damage.
  • Nerf Down tilt deals less damage.
  • Nerf Down smash is weakened, especially in the back, dealing less knockback now.
  • Nerf Fox is slightly lighter than in Brawl.
  • Nerf All of his aerial attacks have greater landing lag.
  • Nerf Mid-air blaster can no longer auto-cancel upon landing, lessening it's utility.
    • Nerf In addition, Fox can only fire two lasers in one short hop.
  • Nerf Forward air has a shorter "hover" effect than it had in Brawl, weakening his recovery. It also deals drastically less damage, dealing around a third of the damage it dealt previously, overall weakening its utility.
  • Nerf Landmaster is less powerful.
    • Change It is now light blue instead of dark blue.
  • Change Fox's Blaster has a redesigned appearance, and its lasers appear to have a lighter hue to them, being more pink in color.
  • Change Some of his ground attacks produce a purplish streak.

  • Fox charges fire and says "Here I come!".
  • Like in Melee, Fox backs up, bends down a bit, and says "Come on!".
  • Fox throws his blaster into the air, then allows it to land back into its holster.

On-Screen Appearance

Ejects from an Arwing.

Victory Fanfare

This victory theme is based upon the main theme of Star Fox 64, most specifically the title screen theme. It is also reminiscent of the music that would play when a mission was completed or accomplished. He shares this with Falco.

Fox
Fox is the leader of the mercenary unit Star Fox, often enlisted to defeat the evil Andross. His piloting skills are top notch, but in Smash Bros. he brings speed and fast attacks to the battle. His Reflector move allows him to turn projectile attacks against his foes, increasing their power for a punishing blow.
Fox (Alt.)
Fox is at home in the air, and many of his moves, like his up smash, Flip Kick, will send foes up there. It's great for KO'ing a damaged opponent. Another handy move is his up special Fire Fox. The flames that surround Fox deal damage to nearby foes, and you can launch yourself in any direction once charged.
