The Battlefield stage in every game:

Is a flat stage without three soft platforms arranged in a triangle floating above it.

The Big variants add an additional row with three more, making a larger triangle of six.

Has a background that is constantly changing (usually a slow cycle between day and night), except for in SSB. Is the stage where that game's Small Fry Corps. are fought, and by extension where Multi-Man Smash takes place. Has no hazards that can damage the fighters.
