100-Man Brawl.

100-Man Melee and 100-Man Brawl are Multi-Man modes in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, respectively. They challenge the player to defeat one hundred opponents (Fighting Wire Frames in Melee, and Fighting Alloys in Brawl) without getting KO'd or Self-destructing. In 100-Man Brawl, regular playable characters appear as every twenty-fifth opponent. These usually take a few minutes for players to defeat.

Strategy

As with most Multi-Man modes, the player's opponents are very weak, dieing incredibly easily even to weak attacks and possessing only basic AI. As such, the battle is one of endurance and speed, where the player will have to dispatch their enemies quickly and efficiently before they can wear him or her down. The player should focus on killing his/her foes as quickly as possible before the enemies can react while minimizing your own vulnerability; moves that instantly kill Wire Frames or Alloys in one hit should be prioritized, though reach and speed should also be considered to keep your enemies at a safe distance. Stale move negation is not applied to 100-Man battles, thus sticking to a small list of simple, reliable killing attacks can help the player concentrate on the battle at hand rather than his/her controller.

The player will be given a wide variety of items (although no healing items, Dragoon pieces, or Smash Balls will appear) with which to hold off the assault; managed wisely, these items can give the player a critical edge. Especially helpful are Ray Guns, Smart Bombs, and Bumpers, all of which kill Wire Frames and Alloys in one hit. Most Pokeballs and Assist Trophies are helpful as well. Mercifully, Wire Frames and Alloys cannot pick up items, although certain items can be just as dangerous to the player, most notably Bob-ombs. In addition, Wire Frames and Alloys can still pick up Starmen.

In 100-Man Brawl, every twenty-fifth enemy to spawn will be a computer-controlled playable character. These characters are far more dangerous; not only do they have increased AI and weight, but they can also use special moves, items, and recovery moves. Prepare yourself when you notice they are about to appear and eliminate them as quickly as possible. Interestingly, these characters will always spawn in the same place, above the rightmost floating platform, making them easier to predict and intercept.

Checkpoints

A certain level of difficulty is programmed into four different checkpoints of 100-Man Melee and 100-Man Brawl. After beating a certain amount of opponents, their behavior will change and they will gradually become more difficult. The amount at which the opponents are released will also increase. These checkpoints are shown by either a short pause in the spawning of Fighting Wire Frames or by a spike in the amount at which they are spawned.

Beginning

At the beginning of the match, two to three opponents spawn and they will gradually increase to between four and five. However, they are at a very low level, that of a level 1 Computer Player. There will be a short pause after defeating the first 25.

25 opponents defeated

After 25 opponents are defeated, the amount at which they spawn will reset, but will gradually increase again. They are aggressive and slightly more dangerous than the first 25 foes.

50 opponents defeated

After 50 opponents are defeated, the amount at which they spawn will reach a maximum of between four and five. Most will constantly approach the player, while some may spread out among the stage. This checkpoint is where most players begin to encounter challenges.

90 opponents defeated

At some point after 90 opponents are defeated, there will be a small pause during the last few foes to acknowledge that the match is nearing its end. At this point the player should prepare for the final challenge; the last few opponents will shield, dodge, and use Smash Attacks much more often.

99 opponents defeated

Right before the Final Challenger, there is one last pause to prepare yourself. After the short pause following the defeat of 99 opponents, the final foe will spawn. It is much heavier than any of the previous foes, and as a result, is slightly harder to defeat. In Brawl, the last foe is the same as the player's character (always player one if playing co-op), and the 100th foe will still spawn if the 99th Alloy is still alive.

Rewards

  • Clearing 100-Man Melee/Brawl will challenge the player to defeat Falco, where victory will result in unlocking the character.
  • Clearing 100-Man Melee in under 4 minutes gives the Male Wire Frame trophy.
  • Clearing 100-Man Brawl in under 3 minutes and 30 seconds gives the Ryuta Ippongi sticker.
  • Clearing 100-Man Brawl in under 4 minutes gives the Multi-Man Melee 1 (Melee) CD.
  • Clearing 100-Man Brawl with all characters grants the Blue Alloy trophy.
  • Clearing 100-Man Brawl with any character gives the Pitfall trophy.

Trivia

  • Although Alloys will enter the battle on Revival platforms, they do not have any invincibility frames after leaving the platform.
    • The computer-controlled characters that appear every 25 enemies do not spawn on Revival Platforms, and thus can be killed as soon as they appear on screen.
  • If the player uses any item that causes time to slow down, the item will only affect enemies on-screen when the item was used. Any enemies that spawn afterward will move at normal speed.
