Event Match 5: Spare Change is the fifth of the 51 Event Matches in the Event mode of Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is an 80-second unlimited-stock coin match between your Ness and the enemy Captain Falcon in the Eagle Land: Onett stage.
This is one of two event matches that take place on the Onett stage; the other is Event 30: All-Star Match 3 (the third of the four battles).
Layout
After selecting Event 5 from the Event mode menu, the match automatically begins with you playing as Ness against Captain Falcon in the Onett stage, and all players have infinite stock. The object of the match is to collect 200 coins before Falcon does.
This event match plays like a standard Coin match, but with a coin accumulation objective rather than simply possessing more coins than your opponents by the match's end. Coins will shoot out of either player when he takes a hit, and the amount of coins depends on how hard each hit landed is. In addition, when one player is KO'ed, his total coin meter is cut in half. You must gather 200+ coins through this process to win.
Strategies
There is no intricate strategy that can really be applied here. Success is based on your being able to hit C.Falcon efficiently, collect the subsequently dropped coins quickly before Falcon does, and if Falcon has more coins than you, try to KO him to make him lose half his earnings and regain your lead.
An easy way to beat the Captain is to wait until he draws near, then unleash a PK Fire (Forward + B) and let him take some damage, then follow that up with a charged strike from the baseball bat (Forward + A). If you have the patience, you can lure Captain Falcon into the streets where cars often speed by and cause damage.
