Several playable fighters in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'' have been announced via '''promotional trailers'''. Continuing the trend from the [[List of Super Smash Bros. 4 character trailers|character trailers]] for ''[[Super Smash Bros. 4]]'', most trailers consist of original animation, done mainly with CGI animation, as well as gameplay clips that demonstrate a character's moveset. Most trailers begin with the animation of two geometric slashes forming the same cross used for the [[Super Smash Bros. logo|''Smash'' logo]], then the camera zooming into the cross (exceptions include initial broadcasts of trailers that reveal the setting and character(s) before revealing the fact that they are coming to ''Smash''). At some point in most trailers, the relevant character(s) strike(s) a pose on a splash screen alongside their name and an introductory catchphrase, pun, or statement (e.g., "{{SSBU|Ridley}} Hits the Big Time!" or "{{SSBU|Joker}} Steals the Show!").
