'''Double Down 2022''' was a [[List of national tournaments|supermajor]] which took place on July 8th-10th, 2022 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and featured tournaments for both ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]'' and ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]''. It was the sequel to {{Trn|Royal Flush}} and was previously set to be the first Platinum tier stop on the [[Smash World Tour 2020|2020 Smash World Tour]] for both games on June 5th-7th, 2020 prior to its postponement due to the [[2019-20 COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on competitive play|coronavirus pandemic]]; the tournament was instead a Platinum stop on the [[Smash World Tour 2022]] for both games. Two years after the [[2020 Super Smash Bros. sexual misconduct allegations]], YouTuber {{Sm|Technicals}} joined Double Down 2022 as a spectator, with a sign and the phrase "Ban [[Nairo]]" written on it throughout the tournament. After being barred from reentry during the second day of the event, he would sneak into the venue with a disguise.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YivT2CYWhbI|title=Technical's video on the situation}}</ref> After the conclusion to the grand finals of ''Ultimate'' and during ProtoBanham's celebration, Technicals would go on to pull up the sign in front of cameras and the audience in reference to the aforementioned controversy.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/abeflorida/status/1546391381387755520|title=Abe w Kingdom Hearts 1 on Twitter}}</ref> Technicals was subsequently escorted out of the venue by tournament staff, <ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/Technicals_/status/1546397155216175105|title=Technicals_ on Twitter}}</ref> and his actions and attendance in the tournament has led to both backlash and confusion by many in the Smash community, especially in regards to how he had been able to enter the venue despite being on the then Global Ban Database. On October 31, 2022, Technicals would make a video that addresses the controversy.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFBjrSpeiUE|title=Exposing the Corruption in the Smash Community}}</ref> In the video, he claims that the reason he went to the event in the first place was to protest the Global Ban Database and the fact that he is in it, but Nairo, who admits to receiving oral sex from a 15-year-old {{Sm|CaptainZack}} while he was 20, was not. He claims the reason for his ban after the second day was due to the "Ban Nairo" sign being considered "too political" by the TOs, and for being on the Global Ban Database. On the third day, he disguised himself in women's clothing and was able to enter due to a complete lack of security presence at the time.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/jifour98_/status/1640378250122887168?s=20|title=GimR's response to Double Down's security problems}}</ref> He then got into a verbal altercation with {{Sm|GimR}} and {{Sm|Aposl}}, which he secretly recorded. During the incident, he asks why Nairo is frequently allowed to re-stream [[VGBC]] content. GimR deflects by saying they do not associate with Nairo. After some more back and forth, the recording ends with Aposl taking the sign and Technicals being escorted out.
