The '''Central Alberta Smash Tournament''', abbreviated '''CAST''', is a series of [[tournament]]s held in Red Deer, Alberta. CAST grew substantially more popular after the first tournament and began to serve as a gathering for competitive players from all across Alberta. Now, after CAST4, this tournament series has become a strong national tournament, where players from across Canada and the US come to participate.

==History==
New to the field of [[tournament director|tournament hosting]], CAST was inspired primarily by {{Sm|Victra}}, a figure at the forefront of the fresh and enthusiastic Red Deer [[smash]] community. In October of 2006, he arranged to host a tournament at the local Red Deer Public Library and invited local players to attend. Much to his surprise, the announcement garnered interest from the veteran Edmonton players as well as the [[Pro Impact BI-WEEKLY Smash|developing community]] in Calgary. 

The first CAST tournament played host to players from all around Alberta including {{Sm|SHWN}}, {{Sm|Jiangshadow}}, {{Sm|FalseFalco}},=] and the [[Pro Impact Players]]. The unprecedented attendance paved the way for future CAST tournaments and the second occurrence attracted not only much of the same crowd, but even pulled members of the venerable Punch Crew out of retirement. 

The second tournament was also held at the Red Deer Public Library and came under some criticism for being a frenzied and disorganized affair. Calgary smasher {{Sm|BackItch}} was mainly responsible for recovering and re-drawing the faulty tournament brackets and administering the event, as Victra himself was not up to the task. In an effort to make future tournaments more streamlined and efficient, he has recruited several players across Alberta to help prepare and host CAST. 

The third CAST event occurred on August 11th, 2007 in the Snell Auditorium of the library. Victra, the tournament director, was unable to attend this event because of personal reasons and the responsibility for the tournament was heavily placed upon assistant directors =] and Backitch. Although the tournament was a more smoothly run and organized affair in comparison to the past two, the prize money was severely low, which caused grief and anger among the winners.

The fourth CAST was primarily a strong event, with players stretching across Canada including the US and Australia, CAST4 had become a recognized Canadian tournament everywhere.
