The Master Sword (マスターソード, Masutā Sōdo) is a longsword from The Legend of Zelda video game series, wielded by Link and Toon Link. It first appeared in The Legends of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Link wields the Master Sword with his left hand in all three Super Smash Bros. games using it to perform many of his standard attacks and his up special, Spin Attack. Toon Link wields the Wind Waker version of the Master Sword in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

The Master Sword also appears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee. This trophy featured an error in early releases of the game, in stating that the Master Sword first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Later versions of Melee corrected this error.

Also, Link is seen drawing the Master Sword yet again in a cutscene in the Subspace Emissary.

Unlike the other SSB versions of the character, Young Link uses the Kokiri Sword rather than the Master Sword.

Trophy #160

The Master Sword varies a bit between titles in the Legend of Zelda series, but it's generally the most powerful blade that Link can carry. It's a magical weapon that can be wielded only by a true hero, and, as its name implies, it's the weapon of choice in decisive battles. At the end of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link returned it to its stone pedestal.
