I'm pretty tired of this weird insistence people have on "updating" character art to be from newer games when the older art is a) more iconic, b) still matches the Smash design, and c) the new art adds nothing of value. Newer is not inherently better and this constant push for the newest art in the infoboxes is tiresome and pointless. I'm sorry if this is a bit heavy-handed of a way to put it, but this has been going on from various users for a while now and I'm very frustrated by it. Miles (talk) 23:21, January 2, 2021 (EST)

Same here. There's another side of it where it's seen as "bad" to have the infobox art match the spirit art, as if it's redundant somehow? Which is weird to me. This seems to happen a lot to Fire Emblem characters in particular due to the characters often receiving new art through Fire Emblem Heroes (see recent changes to Lucina, Chrom, Lyn, etc. etc.). The infobox artwork needs to have a good reason behind it—matching the Smash design, depicting the character well, being generally high-quality and recognizable—but it doesn't have to be different for the sake of being different. ~ StrawberryChan (talk) 23:39, January 2, 2021 (EST)
I said these exact words in regards to a previous discussion about how it's perceived as "bad" to use the spirit art in the infobox: "the image is there, use it". Aidan, the Celebratory Rurouni 23:54, January 2, 2021 (EST)

I mean Shovel Knight design is still consistent throughout his series and didn't undergo a minor changes like what happened to Chrom's Heroes artwork where the gold trimming is replaced and Sephiroth wearing a buckle in FF7R and Dissidia which was explained briefly when reverting to their previous posted artwork. So what's the problem? I'm not saying it's bad to use their spirit artwork but I don't want to misinformed people that only this artwork depict Shovel Knight in Smash accurately when up until Showdown it's still consistent. And c'mon even if the change of artstyle irks you the wrong way it's still similar to his Smash appearance, I mean last time this happened to Roy and that no one want his Heroes artstyle to be present for some unknown reason when, even if there's a slight difference that artwork look more closer to his Smash appearance in 4 and Ultimate even if it's come later.
